As the doco shows, the problem with any era of Can-Am is there's always been a dominant car.
Whether it's Chaparral, Lola, McLaren or Porsche, the evolution was so aggressive someone always found an edge.
Any equal series would need to be historically in-accurate.
That doesn't bother me but (there it is again :P) I'd love something more indicative of the 70's, say, the 8.3litre M20 & 917/10k weren't that far apart and had ballistic power/weight. 8) ;D 8)

I like the idea.
BUT....
(a wise-man once said everything before a but is buulshit :-[ :-X )
I'd like to do some of the other tracks they raced on like Road America, Road Atlanta, Mid Ohio, Daytona (I don't think they raced there but I've seen footage of testing, so it counts! >:(), etc.

Kind of had you in mind when I posted, roo. ;)

Group 7 was never meant to be regulations to build a car to. ::)
Sports cars were 'grouped' according to engine capacity and weight.
Group 7 was just for cars that didn't comply to any other group, hence no weight limits or capacity limits.
Sure, they were heavier than F1 cars (530kg - 690kg) but McLaren had 8.3 litres - F1's 3 litres. :o

I love the mindset of the drivers at the time:
Quote
It was largely Flegl who created the Porsche 917-30, whose 1100 horsepower, the SCCA bitched, was killing the Can-Am series. Donohue disagreed. “We’re far from having too much horsepower,” he asserted. “My definition of too much horsepower is when all four wheels are spinning in every gear.”
8) ;D 8)

btw
I also have the whole 1971 Watkins Glen race.
I'll upload it if anyone wants it but be warned, there's no DRS so overtaking is low. ;)
(they've even left in some motorsport related ads of the time  ;D )

I found an excellent doco covering the history of Can-Am.
Some of the extremes even surprised me (9+l V8 in a 690kg car, ON CROSS-PLIES!!!)
It even has insights from the great innovator himself, Jim Hall.

If you enjoy pre-regulation racing (well, almost), check it out. 8)

What's a good lap time for this track?
We'll see when people put some laps in on the practice server:

I just tried to do that but got a strange crash. :-\
Where it normally says "loading....(car x, track, etc)", it said "problems during checksum" then a window with "game crashed". :(

Actually, I think the large discrepancy in our graph comparison is the left-right before, rooshooter. :-\
(4th gear, no brakes, just lifting)

Began the tradition of spraying Champagne.
At Le Mans, no less.
And weren't the French horrified at that act. ;D

All American Racers, his wife Evi and the Gurney family issued the following statement:

"With one last smile on his handsome face, Dan drove off into the unknown just before noon today, January 14, 2018. In deepest sorrow, with gratitude in our hearts for the love and joy you have given us during your time on this earth, we say 'Godspeed.'

Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic..."

I think there are 2 V1.0 versions. Friday one and Tuesday one. The Tuesday one being the latest. :)

Server has the Tuesday one ie the latest
Turns out, I had croft v1.0 when I needed croft 1.0. ::)
Stupid me. :-[

Try to remember, Godzilla, everyone has different braking points (hence why some people are faster than others).
Just because you don't brake there, doesn't mean no-one does. ;)

Different braking points I get, but braking where there’s no braking is dangerous.
Like I said, everyone is different.
There's a very good chance only you weren't braking there, so you were the odd one out.
Or maybe not.
