Assetto Corsa / Re: VR - exciting times ahead...

I'm definitely on the Pimax 8K bandwagon.

It actually renders at 1440p per eye and then upscales to 4K.  So the horsepower isn't as much as it sounds - made even more confusing by basically lying about the resolution in it's name.

But, from the hands on I've read and watched it sounds like screen door effect is all but gone and the 200 degree FOV is real and amazing.  Obviously there is a lot more detail in everything as well.

The issues at the moment sound like it's more to do with head tracking (done using Vive's) and comfort.  Also some screen blur which is far more of a concern to me as it uses LCD, not OLED, and I believe blurring is inherent in LCD which makes me think that is one issue which might be harder to fix.

Either way, 4K VR is what I'm waiting for.

Not really relevant to the thread title, but has anyone seen the Samsung Odyssey VR headset?

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/d/samsung-hmd-odyssey-windows-mixed-reality-headset-with-motion-controllers/8w91r774pdkk?activetab=pivot%3aoverviewtab

It has higher resolution than the OR or Vive and "inside-out" tracking so you don't need to setup any cameras or lighthouse boxes, etc.  Sounds like the next step up in VR, but I'm keen to know if it makes driving sims much better as far as the detail you are able to see on track.

Also, from what I have read, all the other Microsoft Mixed Reality headsets are fairly substandard compared to the Odyssey, OR or Vive so I wouldn't use the Lenovo one as a benchmark for VR Grat.

Some bright spark on the AC forums listed AC publisher 505Games' web sites here: http://www.viewdns.info/reversewhois/?q=505games
And discovered a domain name assettocorsa-competizione.com .
Sequel is being hatched...

I'm not the brightest spark in the shed... how do they figure there being a sequel from that website?

Bah, we were all in a similar bracket, I just had time to practice some more.

Would love to come back, and one day it will happen, but I think I'm waiting for VR to go higher res before I make the jump.  I'll have to get a new wheel/pedals + GPU.  Sim Racing is one of my favourite hobbies but it is addictive and all-consuming for me - two bad combinations.  Mrs Threepwood isn't going to be happy...

Shit, shit shit.  I haven't checked the forums for a bit so was absolutely shocked to hear this devastating news.  Last I heard Bruce was taking time out to deal with it all but was still in good spirits.

I'm still shocked with a tear in my eye and have to say that I echo everyone else's comments about him being a genuinely welcoming, warm, humorous, and all-round decent person.  I'll always remember talking to Bruce when I first started, him having a laugh at some of the twisted rubbish I came up with I'm sure just to make me feel welcome to XGN.  He was always a gentlemen on track and was generous in how he behaved toward others (even when getting cut-off or ran into).  Also a great person to chat with when the servers went down.  I'm just regretful that I wasn't around for the last few seasons with him.

What a tremendous loss to the sim racing community, but I'm sure nothing compared to what his family and "real life" friends must be going through given the type of bloke he was.  I still can't believe it, but I guess the best one's are taken to a better place.  I'm sure the bugger is setup with a giant motion rig and 10 foot OLED screen playing AC on a super computer as we speak!

RIP Bruce.  Forever immortalised here at XGN by equally great people.

Am I late to the party with these jokes?  Surely...

Hope all is getting better Bruce.  It's been a while, but it was always nice to hear from you both in the forums and on the track.  Here's to a better road ahead and many more fun times on track.

So what's it like?  Any particular stand out cars.  Damn the 2004 F1 car takes me back... sounds so nice in the vid.
What's the Lotus '49 Ferrari equivalent like?  Is it similar to the Lotus '49?

:)

Where is Marty these days?  I miss his musk.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that we all want to race the Reliant Robin in the next season.  So let's do it!

Bah, wish I had my rig for this.  Love the Exos.

Bummer are you away from home or did you get rid of your setup? Is it still the pedals issue maybe.

Pedals.  Plus life and stuff.  I'll be back one day, but at the moment new house furniture and other living expenses are taking a priority. :)

What's the new "wind" feature like?

Not that I need any more.

There hasn't been much news on AC for a while.  Have they said much other than a console update?
