Race Videos / Thursday Night - Silverstone National Race 1 - 8th Dec 2016
« on: December 12, 2016, 05:20:32 PM »
Thanks to Marty for uploading the replay for this and for the new edits to allow me to use cam angles to capture the action better.  I even tried a moving camera down pit straight but the ghosting issue kinda ruined it :(  so don't think I'll do that again.

There's now an camera grid walk, I think it's a bit slow, but it's either that or too fast grr.  It adds an extra 40 odd seconds to the video unfortunately. more in-car cam angles and I did some static cams around the circuit that were different from the defaults.  I'm open to ideas about the grid walk, and if there's any other cam angles you'd like to see that are static, for example, blimp view etc, please let me know.

I've upped the quality and I think this is about right. I'm still getting the ghosting and I'm going to be playing around with some other encoding formats and hope to fix it.

Phil got plenty of love in this :)

Enjoy guys

Race Videos / Thursday Night - Silverstone National Race 2 - 8th Dec 2016
« on: December 09, 2016, 04:46:39 AM »
I wanted to do race 1 but due to the 1gb limit on replay filesize my race 1 is missing lap 1 out of 11 :(

Some good close racing in this.. playing with bitrates until I find the right quality.. this one's not high enough.

Encoded in 1080p @ 60fps.

Enjoy

Thursday Nights fun racing / silverstone national replay 1 pls

Seems I have only managed to save race 2.  Can someone please upload race 1 replay file somewhere for me by any chance?

Lots of action all over the track between the 2 classes, was hard to try and condense it down.  The quality of this one seems a little lower than the others as I was testing some settings, I think I prefer the previous settings and quality.

This is just race 1.

Enjoy

Race Videos / Rockingham Race 1 Highlights Video

I was going to put both races in the same video but decided to separate them.  It appears this video has more blur/ghosting, not sure why though as it's the same settings as cadwell.

Award goes to humper for the best stunt of the race :)

Rendered in 1080p @60fps, looks good full screen. Make sure your youtube is set to that when you press play.

Race Videos / Highlights Video of Cadwell Park
« on: November 28, 2016, 02:24:47 AM »
So much action, and even tried to trim bits out, it still ended up to be a 20 min video. I hopefully managed to cover most of the race battles and passing maneuvers, along with plenty of lock-ups and spin offs.

As for the ghosting and blurring of cars in my videos, I've noticed it happens in the replay file, but when lowering the quality and rendering it becomes more apparent.  Youtube does have a stabilizer that kind of helps remove some of it.  But doesn't look like there's anything I can do about it as its in the replay file from Assetto.

Enjoy it in 1080p @60fps full screen and turn it up :)

There was a ton of action in this race and I'd really REALLY like to include as much as everyones battles an accidents as I can. If you could check the time of either in your replays and give me timestamps I'd really appreciate it.

Race Videos / Race 2 Snetterton Hightlights Video
« on: November 21, 2016, 05:48:32 PM »
Surprise!  I decided to do the second race this time after all. I think from now on if there's 2 races I will stick to making a video from the last race.  There's a ton more action and more people used to the track.

I really enjoyed this video.  Flattop and Phil seemed to be on a bit of a charge. I started to get my joystick recovery skills back and quite a few of us tasted the grass.

Enjoy

Finally!!!!!!!. :o  If anything could have gone wrong while making this it bloody did!  I was recording for around 4-5hrs only to discover that, when I checked the recordings it had recorded the opposite of what it was supposed to.. yes that's right 0 clips of the action over that time were recorded, all my editing in between was instead. (insert very swear word under the sun here).

After deleting all the clips and starting again I finally got the recording done, but still not without bugs (thankyou shadowplay ffs). Shadowplay still randomly wants to include the overlay tag that shows up to say "recording started" for 7 seconds before it goes away".  It's not supposed to show in the recorded clips, it's supposed to just let you know you have started and you have saved at the end of recording. Thankfully only a few clips didn't make the cut due to this so no big loss.

I've added in some basic information at the start and the end. Not exactly what I was aiming for, but it's a start.   I won't be going into this much effort for thursday night races, this was purely used as a test video to see how it would turn out.  The plan is to use this kind of format for the Tuesday night leagues.. From this point forward Thursday night videos will be kept simple.   If I end up joining Tuesday league, I don't think I will be making Thursday night videos as well unfortunately.

So after using many swear words in many different languages I didn't realise I knew. Here is Race 1 at Snetterton, if my blood pressure level returns to normal I will look into a Race 2 video to be released by Monday.  Right now I need a bloody strong scotch. Chivas Regal here I come.

format: 1080p @ 60 - Awesome in full screen.  Please remember to Like the video on youtube. It does have an impact on motivation to make more and improve.

Thursday Nights fun racing / Snetterton Screenshots from the video

As the limit here is too small to upload this many photos I have decided to make a public photo album on facebook. This way you can view the ones you want as there is quite a few.

Thursday Nights fun racing / New beginning to Snetterton videos.
« on: November 18, 2016, 04:14:00 AM »
Just spent the last 4 hours swearing at the mozzies and working on screenshots and an idea for the intro to the race for the video.

Now that I see the bottom bar and logo size in 1920x1080 while the video is playing I realise it needs to be smaller.

I have taken a screenshot of each car on the grid and added it into the video with the position:drivername:qualtime on the bottom bar as shown in the screenshot.  I'll make the text a bit smaller along with the width of the bars etc. The text is a separate layer so I can edit it to put in whatever you guys want.. but with only 3 seconds to view each driver I figured this was enough info.  I can add PB laps during the race if I have access to that info?

Thoughts, ideas and feedback welcome. Scroll the image to see the rest of it.

Thursday Nights fun racing / An idea for league videos.. thoughts please
« on: November 08, 2016, 05:07:54 PM »
I am toying with the idea of having a graphic bar at the bottom of the videos that is static. Both for advertising for XGN but also it would allow me to add animated text fields throughout the race that could give live race positions or top 10, DNFs that kind of thing..

Here's what I've come up with so far, but open to ideas, scroll across to the the rest of the bar

I'll fix up the XGN logo, just not sure what to do with it at this stage. Again ideas welcome.

Race Videos / Silverstone 1967 Video Highlights
« on: November 06, 2016, 11:49:44 PM »
Spent a few hours recording the clips this afternoon.  Tried to compress the video down as much as I could, this one ended up being 15 minutes long.  Lots of long battles lasting several laps and a few crashes, some I missed.

Please enjoy

Thursday Nights fun racing / Apologies
« on: November 03, 2016, 10:46:59 PM »
I do apologise if it sounded like I was complaining on teamspeak or that the racing wasn't a good enough experience for me.. far from it. I don't expect to be able to compete with a joystick with the level of physics quality in assetto.  It was difficult back in the day of rfactor, GTL and GTR2 but the physics weren't as realistic as they are in assetto.  This makes my job of controlling any car without adequate downforce very difficult.  Even in a race car ie. gt3 I will still be off pace due to the way joystick makes the car handle.. my front wheels are actually turning into the corner before I get to the point where you guys begin to turn in, this is what's causing my tyre wear more than anything and I don't know of any way to change it. Most of my setups also run higher front psi and toe and camber to aid easier turn in which also contributes to more tyre wear.  Better setups do help but they never last past about 8-10 laps of competitive racing.

I always worry that I'm going to cause an accident with the escorts, thankfully haven't had any majors with that one, but some close calls.  I will always be more competitive on a short circuit over a long one.  I really wish I could use a wheel setup, and I did try, it unfortunately is not possible due to a body mostly fused in bone.

I don't expect the server settings to change dramatically and affect everyone elses racing experience to try and accommodate my shortcomings, even if it is just the fun run nights. Auto clutch really should be my only requirement.

The escorts have no downforce and the rear is very loose. This is a very difficult thing to keep under control at race speed with a joystick over a wheel as I have to sacrifice speed far more to try and regain control from a sliding rear end.  Has not stopped me from trying. Although often it feels like I'm just out doing laps alone during a race for the most part. I still in no way find it boring, maybe a lil lonely at times lol.
