Haven't done a lot of laps but the few cars I've tried are pretty good, I like it. Sounds, physics, everything feels right. Bouncing curbs is cool, couldn't do that with gt3.

Done a few laps in some, they're fairly close aside from the ovlov, at least the one's I've tested. The differences could play out other ways depending on track too. I think it'll look cool with a bunch of these on track, also whether accurate or not I think they sound pretty good, I like the extra sound effects on those turbo cars and can't decide to use v8 or turbo. I'm getting some sort of strange visual reverb/vibration effect in the R31, no others have it, it's almost like some sort of thing they'd do in a fast n furious movie lol

Cool, didn't think to check the version no.

I'm getting checksum with some cars, could the car pack have been updated since I only downloaded it yesterday.

Am I correct in thinking that there is no modding in this game such as Apps, Skins etc etc?
Only the default apps, radar, gear/speed, tyres etc. Marty at Rooz has been keeping tabs on the skins at RD and put together a pack 260+ skins https://mega.nz/file/zOJjlarD#smzeeyiw8837Ph6pFtRzEuZlmW92V7a1fAYDKfNzfQU

I'm hyped for it, Chris Haye said it felt more like AC in his stream so should be pretty good

Yeah, a little more drifting and sliding. A few things I noticed; tyre pressure gt4=27psi, gt3=27.5. No tyre blankets so the cold tyres want to kill you and take a while to get up to temp. Pit limiter works in 2nd, unlike gt3 1st only. Tyres go off sooner compared to gt3, particularly the heavier/high powered machines. McLaren simulates some of the real cars stability management. Alpine being light weight is better through corners but less power on the straight line. Ginetta is lacking in top speed on the tracks with long stretches due to the homologated gear ratios.
They all had a lot of fun in the stream. Maserati doesn't have ABS.

Watched some of this, looks promising, gt4 should be a bit of fun

If the sand baggers weren't carrying an extra spare tyre I'm sure at least one of them would have served me a can of whoopass.
I believe the upgrades have assisted me in getting to where I am now (sooner maybe?) however could have been achieved without the fancy gear. I've been fortunate enough to be able to afford such nice stuff, if you scrounge up enough most upgrades are worth it even if for the niceties and immersion. I didn't buy to get faster (aside from initially wanting a load cell again). I think Kcender or guybrush would probably find another second or two, I'm still a long way off that!
When I ran the cheapo vr headset for 3 months over Christmas it helped a bit as it gave me some depth perception, I've since tossed it because I couldn't stand screen door effect, sweet spot blur and the feeling of the eye balls sweating lol. It was fun though and might invest properly one day when the headsets and gpus are up to the task at a more reasonable budget.

Yes it generates a lot of understeer on the brake, pretty sure I reduced camber a bit too hopefully add more braking and acc traction, coast a bit more through apex

222
I think a bit of trail braking "off" the ABS goes a long way

The set-up I was running if anyone wants to try, I know I used to always question if it was a set-up thing or not, pretty sure it's a slightly tweaked Bacc set.

Hope that only being able to do every second round doesn't affect other championship contenders too much, sorry to Joe for not selecting first a few rounds ago that would hampered your championship. Might be a nail biter now though, down to the wire.
No sand bags in the boot helped a bit in the braking and turn-in zones I think, also trying to minimise the ABS cutting in (brake was set to 85% in set-up). R1 crap start let Mael out in front, spent the whole race trying to find away past, was an awesome race. R2/3 just tried to get a good start and then not stuff up which I almost did a couple times particularly R3. Great fun as usual, good luck on the championship, won't be racing next round unless I have something preventing me from going away to work, Thanks guys  8)

Hardware & Reviews / DD1 - will equipment upgrades make you faster?
« on: July 08, 2020, 12:19:55 PM »
Answer...sort of but not really...
I've had the Fanatec DD1 for a couple weeks now and decided to share my thoughts on it. Before I get into it though I'll talk about how I got to this point.
Starting off a few years ago, getting back into sim racing and signing up here I bought the Logitech G920 and shifter and mounted it to my old wobbly fanatec wheel stand (the folding one) it did the job and I was having fun racing online with all you cool guys. Looking to get faster (my original wheel that I didn't use much was fanatec porsche with load cell and crap plastic shifter) I wanted to get a load cell pedal again. I bought the fanatec v2.5 kit with v3 pedals and shifter, all mounted to my wobbly wheel stand. The load cell pedals made the biggest difference for my lap times, mostly for my consistency which overall still needed a lot of work. The high quality metal sequential/H-pattern shifter was a bonus for atleast the feel and not having to modify my logitech one with rubberbands to turn it into sequential mode lol. There was also slightly more precision with the v2.5 not that noticable but helped to catch or moreso recover from a slide. The extra power from the wheel meant i had to add some home made brackets to stiffen the wheel stand (but it still moved occassionally). Opportunity to move my PC to another room and set a up a permanent rig I purchased a Next Level Racing GT-Track at about $800 (christmas discounts, 8020's were well over a grand). This was another slight improvement to consistancy since everything is set up in the exact same place and has no movment.
Soooo now..... questioning all the reviews on direct drive wheels and are they that much better? I had to see for myself lol. Budget allowed the unthinkable for me... I put the order in and had to wait almost a month. Chris Hayes youtube covers direct drive wheels quite accurately imo, check out his vids on the subject.
THE DD1, Bolting it up to the chassis I updated my driver/firmware to the latest beta (better sensor resolution for DD and some added tuning features) I quickly realised I needed the Fanalab software just to have the rev/flag lights on my F1 wheel working again. I tried the software with my v2.5 but uninstalled it straight away, it seemed to induce performance issues, a newer version and with DD wheelbase seems ok now. With the DD at 45% power it felt stronger than the v2.5 at 100% (in-game gain 70 for AC/ACC), it was quite the workout for the 2hr Kyalami race at ROOZ. A definate, but minor again, upgrade to the precision allowed for slightly better reaction and instead of catching a slide, helped to avoid them. Drivers and sofware haven't been an issue for me so far, however there is this ever so slight feeling of power going to motor when turned on but can't be felt other than sitting idle with no game going. Seems to be a fixable thing as apparently wasn't there in previous drivers. SRG youtube reviews on the DD1/DD2 are good for more info on the wheelbase, software and features, I don't have any of the flex in the wheel/shaft that SRG sees. The NLR GT-Track holds up just fine with DD1, if I grab the wheel with both hands, push up & down, the deck flexes and the wheel moves about a millimetre or two, it can't be felt while driving.

TL:DR Budget allowed upgrades over the years, calculated decisions on what to purchase as I go and not specifically chasing faster lap times with hardware. Minor improvements to the gear but moreso time in seat and focus on consistancy (still a WIP lol) has helped me get faster over the years. Just to add, I'm pretty shit at set-ups and just use Bacchulum's (thank you) with sometimes a tweak or two in AC and default aggressive (sometimes a tweak or two) in ACC. A good set-up and/or better gear can help eek out a tiny bit but imo it's not much at all.
