Bugger!  I knew I was a bit too fast for my own good...

However...

8x beemer
6x evora gx
2x merc
2x fezza
2x evora gtc
1x mclaren

it tells me one thing; there's not enough spread in the cars.
The cars deemed fastest and slowest are used by 14 of us, 7 uses something in the middle.

Maybe removing the 599 was a mistake after all, as fast as it was :(

actually, Edwood in the gx as well...not making much of a difference

The handicap rating needs a higher damping setting. I feel like I am flip flopping from too fast > too slow > too fast. Not enjoying the constant changes at all.

I've actually hovered in the middle all season.  Mainly P4/5, with one use of the 458 and Maclaren.  Next week will be first run in the Merc.

I back next week, sure hoping I get something that I can blast past everyone on the straights!  (Not worried about any other portion of the track/race  :P )

Yes, interesting polarisation towards both ends of the cars. Bird's right, not enough spread in the cars.  599 was still no good, as it's style of speed was too different.

Looks a little too fast, not sure if we can get the Robin GT aka Guybrush Threepwood edition made in time. Probably the graphics are where all the speed is at so maybe a skin is all it needs.

Actually there's one more thing that bugs me; the cars' relative performance on each track.

Would that be too much to recalculate the car order and spread (call it track-speed?) based on the top laptimes for the track?
I mean if we know the calculation itself, we can chuck it into a program that takes the parameters (a form) and spits out the results.

I can write the code I guess, and we can just throw it up somewhere, then Marty can enter the data, he seems to have enough time and too happy to calculate stuff ;)

Actually...we have talked about some BMW z4 or somesuch before the season...?

The Z4 ended up being virtually identical to some other car, on average times.

I did consider factoring in relative car performance at each track, but it would have become too much work.
I'm going to take a bit of a break from the handicap stuff anyway. Too much debate about it instead of car setup and racing etc. Time to simplify for a while, maybe until (if) we get ballast.

fair 'nuff :)
Altho...altho... maybe we can try and look at the car renting again.

I know I sound like a broken record, but it's a fairly self-balancing system.
And once the cars are set, the admin can lay back and relax, too. :)

Edit; don't take me wrong, I wasn't criticising your system at all!   I was trying to help to make it even more refined, that's all.  You did a fantastic job and your dedication is unbelievable.  Big thanks, again, for all the work you put in, Wally!

Yeah, I think we have to accept that the system will never be perfect no matter what handicap you put in place.  I think it has worked well for the most part.  There has been some great racing which wouldn't have happened otherwise.

With something like this there will always be ways you can drill down to potentially give a more accurate car assignment but the balance between this happening and the work that goes into it has to stop somewhere.  There is also the issue of assuming that a particular record for a car and track is the maximum that car can acheive as opposed to the driver's ability or setup.

You must get a transaction fee in this rental business Bird.  ;D
