Title: S5R7: Lotus Exos 125 at Mugello
Post by: Wally on February 24, 2015, 10:51:46 PM
Last round of the season. I may yet adjust race 2 length depending on the fuel consumption at 2x. The tyre wear rate for race 2 is 3x (Mugello wears the tyres harder than Spa, where we ran 4x).

I've done a few laps...it's tough.  You need to avoid those bloody curbs, or else.

I've modified Aleph0 racing's great setup with a bit more downforce, some ride height (it was badly bottoming out up the hill) a bit of camber adjustment & some gearing change - which incidentally may be off a bit, as I have completely forgotten about the DRS :)

So anyhoo, here's the set it's fairly stable yet fairly fast I feel.  Not alien fast, mind you. 1:34 flat, so far.
A word of warning; be careful with the wings, you mess up the balance and you're done.

I won't be able to make it so you guys have fun.  This is one of my favourite circuits,  especially in a car with great cornering ability.

Dont choke Stan!  "YOU CAN DO IT!"  ;)

Damn, this is going to be hard! The car is twitchy and nervous, the kerbs are treacherous, high speeds. I predict lots of off-track excursions (by me, anyway).

heeeeeeee what will we do without you bird?... :-* :-* :-*

This morning was raining(as usul) so I did few laps and I realised I need a fair bit of down force here to try to hit those difficult apex,i will be vulnerable on the straight though,,,maybe I will try to lift the wings slowly slowly tonight and see if I can find a decent speed and grip balance.I did a 34.5 with full wings,,,got to improve that :o

In the '34's? :o

The only 34's I have is sphincter clenching/sec every time I slightly touch a curb! :-X
I'm too shit scared to try and go fast. >:(

Amen to that.  The kerbs at Mugello are b-r-o-k-e-n.

I have changed the fuel rate for race 2 to 1.5x. This means that a full tank will do about 14 laps, in a 20 lap race. I did this so we don't all just pit at the half way point - it opens up being able to pit early, or late, but you still will have to pit.

The practice server is up with this setting.

Strange I seem to be way faster on Guy's spa setup over Bacchulum spa setup, but then still 8secs off the WR. Some serious practice tomorrow night is in order  ::)

My Spa setup will be no good here without adding heaps of wing.
High downforce required here. ;)

Did a 1.32.2 but felt there was more in it, managed to get the car working over the curbs and that's where all the time is here really.

That's the set for those interested, im not sure which way to go with wings I had 18f and 22r on that lap but I also didn't mind 16 15

Hey Wally.

I need to help the old boy make the vino tomorrow night. Sorry about the late notice but only got the call today and I'm not sure when we'll be finished. I'm happy for you to give my spot away, maybe to Grubbet?

Best of luck all for the final race.

Cheers

I found softening the roll bars to be the biggest help, I started with 30f 3r and i could barely touch the curbs and as soon as i started to drop the bars i noticed I could take more kerb. I settled on 10 and 1 it can still bite but a majority of the time it sticks.

I PB'd on Birds and thought sweet, then had a go on Matthew111 and PB'd on warm up lap and smashed it by .5 next lap...

both are tops, but I seem to feel more comfortable on Mathew's.
It is more forgiving on kerbs for my type of ragged driving  :P

though now I'm warmed up I will give Birds another good solid go before making decision for tomorrow  :)

My last update before crashing out... pun intended  :P

Bacchulum/Bird's wins with a few mods to my liking

I found Birds felt fast down the straight, but ran out of 6th right at the end of the straight so I upped it one click.
I liked Matthew111's kerb forgiveness so I put Birds roll to 10f and 1 rear and overall I improved again...

comfortably in the 35's and I can taste the 34 if I put a clean consistent lap together...

I won't be a threat to the quick guys, but I'm guaranteed to have fun  ;D

cya tomorrow!

Sounds very similar to me Rolz!
I just couldn't tweak my set to a fast lap (soft set was good for the curbs but so slow...), went to Birds set and also upped the 6th gear a notch and after a couple of laps, just scrapped into a 34 hooray!!  :D.
Will have to try out Matthew's tonight pre-race.

Yeah sorry guys, I forgot about the DRS, so the car was prolly maxing out due to that... :/

I'll give those softer rollbars a go, it sounds good to be able to curb.  Altho it can mean that you get used to it, and it's enough if it bites you once during the race...so maybe it's just better to avoid them completely.
