And in my opinion, is outrages,

The Australian Pricing for the GTX 1080 is here

May 27, 2016

Pricing for the GeForce GTX 1080 Graphics Cards has finally been revealed and Australians are expected to pay around $1179-$1199 AUD depending on brand.

The models listed first are the Founder’s Cards – which is the new name for the reference models. Third-party models are coming at a later date which are expected to be cheaper than the new Founder’s Editions.

Here’s the pricing breakdown for each model from Mwave.com.au:

    MSI GTX 1080 Founders Edition – $1179
    ASUS GTX 1080 Founders Edition – $1199
    Gigabyte GTX 1080 Founders Edition – $1199
    EVGA GTX 1080 Founders Edition – $1179

The USD pricing for the cards were announced for $699 USD for the GTX 1080 Founders Edition which equates to about $968 AUD when directly converted. Big difference but this has always been expected with IT products in Australia. The cards are available for purchase from 11PM AEST tonight from selected IT retailers.

Or are they just protecting the price of the 900 series. They've dropped considerably but nowhere near what they would have if the 1080 had of been priced according to the exchange rate. Not that I'm ever going to afford either of course..... ;D ;D ;D

But that's why the 900 series was priced so high in the first place. ;)

I held off, just ordered a new desktop but will wait to see the price of the 1070 and then the hybrid cards. Thinking I will go with the 1070 until the titan comes out.

New desktop is purely to drive the oculus and is a beast, so definitely going add a latest gen gpu, but $1200 is insane for a reference card.

Amd are doing a paper release at computex 31st of may, i am hoping the 490x will be on par with fury x, this should drop the price of the 1080 as fury x is on par with 980ti. I am going red team this gen as i have no plans for rift and already bought a freesync monitor.

Do you guys really feel you need this level of gfx power?  I mean I could drive 3x24 screens (1200px height, 7mp) with 2x970's with ease (AC running at 100-150fps).   A UHD monitor is 8.3 mp so it'll be about the same.   Unless you run 3x UHD screens (why?!?) you don't need these cards.  Plus, I'm not sure what CPU power you need to actually drive it properly...probably a lot. :)
