I thought I should let you catch me a bit at the end It was good fun to ignore your "safety car"!!! But I thought I had you then you finally found a gear and the forward progress grinded to a halt here is the margin at nearly 300kmh.I just noticed Phil had the fastest lap in all 3 races, just a shame he had a couple mistakes, race 2 especially was looking like a ripper and it was going to be hard keeping that Ferrari behind. Luckily I just had the pace onto the straights where it counted thanks to my maxed out lotus engine. I think that would have been a costly nite for the team as I needed a new gearbox after each session. « Last Edit: January 05, 2016, 11:26:38 PM by marty » Logged Wally Administrator Hero Member Posts: 11033 Karma: 152 AC Admin Re: Jan 5 Fun Run: Lotus 72D vs. Ferrari 312T at Monza '66 and Paul Ricard « Reply #32 on: January 06, 2016, 08:11:21 AM » Why were there so many DNFs? Were they crashes, or blown engines? Thanks for the setup up Phil and Marty. Certainly an interesting track, so many blind corners and no undulations. Logged "I refuse to be what you call normal." I've been tooling around in the McLaren for the GT3s. Its always hard to try and find a race pace that you can keep up and avoid errors. In those cars though I found backing off too much I made more mistakes and nearly blew the gearbox in race 1 when I had a bit of a gap. When you were all over me I had to keep more focused to run a clean error free line as I thought if you ever got past id be fooked and was never going to catch you. The same with GB I need to get ahead of him at the start and then I have some hope but chasing him he makes less errors then me at the same pace so I either settle for second a few seconds back or try and push as hard as possible hoping to force him into an error before I do. That failed at Nords and I can normally run very good consitant laps there so it was quite frustrating. At Paul Ricard in Practice I saw both you and GB had the pace on me in the Lotus but it has a few strengths in critical corners, Its a shame GB wasnt there and not too many had ran enough laps to be quite up to pace yet. For example Monza66 I had the advantage of running some laps there before but everyone got very close to that pace by the end of the race. Had we had a second race there it may have been very close, I did notice the Lotus there got no help on the draft down the main straight where the ferrari would real it in. But that would be a great combo in a large field but those cars have a very fine line between gaining .2 and wrecking the car, Id love to see a race there in a proper league nite in equal cars especially slower ones. I think I will put up Monza 66 in a fixed setup with some slower cars on one of my servers it should be some great racing. It sounds like it No just regular clutch on upshifts probably just sounds different to the computer shifting for you with paddles. I was surprised that you can flatshift this thing I assumed youd still need to lift but I guess not.
