Title: Racer Introductions
Post by: Wally on May 28, 2014, 07:40:40 PM
If you'd like to, use this thread to introduce yourself and say hello to your fellow racers, since there are many new names here.

I'll start off: I'm Wally, 50 years old, married with two adult kids, in Adelaide. I work in IT as a developer. I've been running the netKar PRO league here at XGN since 2011 (which is now winding up since we're moving to AC), and have been sim racing online with some of the guys here since GT Legends came out, since 2006/7-ish. Here at XGN, I've raced GT Legends, rFactor and Race07, as well as spending some time with other leagues.

Every now and then I crack out a bit of rFactor2, which shows promise, but have given up on Project Cars.

Edit: Reading Guybush's intro made me think to add I like watching the British Touring Cars (love the elbows out, panel rubbing style), V8 supercars and the WRC. And the occasional F1 race.

Well, the dilemma for me is whether to introduce myself as my real name, my nickname, my gaming alias or what I want to be called.  So I'll do all of them - Justin, Juz, Guybrush, and... Hyper Igniter Machismo Love Machine  :P

31, girlfriend + son.  Manage a disability employment program covering pretty much everywhere north and west of Melbourne to the Victorian border.  Haven't done much online racing - dabbled with rFactor and the V8 mod years ago which was fun but then went on hiatus before building a PC about 18 months ago just in time for the release of AC...   ::)

Religiously watch F1 and play cricket.  Loving Dan Ricciardo this year!

Look forward to racing everyone and I hope to race hard but clean - if I can keep up!

Cheers.

Steve, 42, wife + one 2.5yo daughter.  Been racing online since LFS1.  IT developer & business owner.  I've had the pleasure to run the XGN GTL league on and off (great times!).  But I don't have the time nor the inclination to do that any more; I just enjoy the friendly atmosphere here and help out with administration.

I'm from Hungary originally, if anyone is wondering about the heavy accent.  I came to here too late to learn the language properly, so I'm still learning.  This maybe one reason I hate those who trash it on forums too much.  :)  And I'm getting grumpy with age, no denying it.

I think I've driven/raced nearly every sim that came out earlier (even bought GPL retro), lately I'm not so keen; eg I'm not buying into simbin titles anymore, they don't seem to improve, and while I've bought rF2 & CARS, and I find them all right, I don't think I'll need anything besides AC for a good while .

I don't watch too much racing nowadays.  I don't like F1.  The problem with V8 is that every time I switch on Lowndes loses a race (even if he was going well before in the season) plus the races are too long.  I like speedweek for the club-like atmosphere, but their camera and reporter work can be shocking sometimes.  And the occasional "other" - like European touring car sprint races. Those are sweet & short.

G'day from Gleno  ;D

40 years old, married with 3 kids, 12 and 10 Y/O girls :o my wife and I decided to relive our youth and have a little boy  ;) now 17 months. Was a trade teacher now a stay at home dad with my young fella. Started sim racing here at XGN in Gtl half way through season 1 with Speed and YSU (Bird) running the show, I still remember the nerves of that first race. A lot of fun times have been had here at XGN just about covering every decent car sim possible, with a great bunch of people that have been here for such a long time I have made some good friends, some I have met in real life and others I will hopefully meet one day that are interstate.

I loosely follow F1 now as this combines cutting edge technology and motor sport, while some find it boring, I find it fascinating. Dan is an amazing driver  ;) I do a bit of club level sprint days with my daily when time permits which I also thoroughly enjoy. Although most of my time is now consumed with my family I still get a bit of time to sim race but no where near the dedication to practise I used to do to be in the top 10.

Really looking forward to this sim in particular as the cars and tires respond very well to slight set up changes. I enjoy putting together a good stable set up more so then the thrill of the race itself.

Looking forward to Wally's idea's for season one already always endeavouring to keep a close field.

Cheers

Hi Rolz here  :)

Brissy lad, am 39, have fiance who puts up with me being a big kid and am an IT Team Lead by day... been a gamer since doom2 (it got me into IT actually), but dropped off the scene for a few years... Have a Toyota MR2 (SW20) that I've poured too much money into over the years, racing track is really a bit far to drive to these days and I just don't have the points to yahoo it any more... errr plus I'm older and more sensible now... that right  :P So I've always had a decent PC for FPS, but saw Assetto Corsa, bought a G27, a third monitor and now I'm hooked...  :D

I'll try to keep out of the way of all you speed demons, but keen to race and it doesn't cost me breaking real parts (unless PC overheats).

Look forward to seeing you all online!

Hey guys my real names Craig. I'm 23 from Perth and currently finishing a Bachelor of commerce majoring in Finance. Other than that I work part time with a bank and a small business and donate some time to various charities.
I've really only simraced in iRacing briefly, never got too far due to lack of commitment. When I found out AC MP was coming I built a racing seat with adjustable chair and pedals (based round a G27) which now sits alongside my PC desk.
Other than that I daily drive my VX commodore, but have an '87 e30 325i that I am in the process of fixing up - next is the driveshaft centre support bearing - after that it should be sweet. I do all the work to these cars myself.
I enjoy watching the V8's because they don't take themselves too seriously. F1 is good in small doses.
Seeyou on the track (no doubt in your rearview mirror)!

Bruce.

aka Flattop & Lemmy Caution, 61 and a Melbourne lad for most of my life, my wife of 40 years still understands and thankfully, incourages 'big kids' and their interests :)
I am working in IT as QA/BA for an Australian online realestate site.
Denise and I have 2 daughters and their families have provided 4 grandchildren 1 @.5, 2@2 and 1 @ 4.  The children give us great pleasure and time is precious now.
I had the good fortune to find XGN in season 2 of GT Legends run by Ysu and have been hooked on sim racing ever since. As Glen said, I too have enjoyed good company here and had the pleasure of meeting a few out in reality.
I have always been a car nut owned a few cars over the years, being a mechanic allowed me to.  Still have a few 'tin tops', some big some small, all fun to drive.
Found swimming again as other sports had 'negatives' and like to make the young ones in the squad work!
You may have noticed, music is a passion, hence my involvemnt with PBSfm 106.7 and the link I have annually in my sig http://www.pbsfm.org.au, can't play a note, but Denise and I can 'cut a rug'.
Looking forward to AC and in Wally's hands et el, it will be fantastic!

ps Cruising in the 63 Marauder S55, this weekend.
pps I have raced at other forums from time to time, most good, some okay, but never left XGN, XGN is great!  :-*

Hi Guys,

My real name is Jesse from Brisbane, 38, Girfriend no kids, but 24 pets !! I work in the wonderful world of IT as a sysadmin / network admin (nerd min) for the last 10 years.  Enjoy golf, reefkeeping and gambling bitcoins and blow.

Got into Indy car on my old amiga back in the early 90s and was hooked.  Then played lots of gran turismo and then onto rfactor, netkar, lfs.

Online racing has really picked up over the last 5 years or so and the level of skill has jumped right up, i used to enjoy pole positions and many race wins, now im happy if i qualify and finish up in the top 10.

Raced one season on here last year, fantastic race environment, well organized by Wally, everyone's helpful no massive egos flying about.

My aim, keep up with Wally lol,  my problems, i cut and run wide a bit, pull me up on it if you see me doing this!  if your faster Ill always let ya through no use taking two out of the race for holding a position.   Love the rain, hope Assetto brings weather!

Pet hates, being clipped by cars re-entering the track, only takes a second to check if someones coming.

Great to see a real mix of ages on here.

C u on the track.

Hi!

Dick Forrest is a fictional character. He was Cock Forrest (pronounced Koe For-ray) a long time ago.

I'm a 43 year old kid. Looking at me you'd say, "geez, look at that biker".. Maybe it's the beard, the leather, the tattoos and the bike that gives that impression. Really, I'm very approachable and a gentle guy. although shy to start with and always looking for a laugh to be had.

So, my advice is never take Dick Forrest seriously!

I'm liking Koe Forray - the tough biker who is fluent in french, enjoys sim racing, the perfect Latte and runs a nail salon.  Actually, your name isn't alluding to some sort of battle between hair growth vs. man-scapeing? Could make for an interesting paint scheme ;)

Of cause a Cock Forest is a room full of men, much like a sausage fest. That's where his name really came from. And a room full of women is called? That's right, a Box Social.

Hi Guys,

Rob, Robin, Westie07 here.

I'm 65 y.o. from Brisbane, and until my beloved wife (Lyn) passed away a few years ago I had been her full-time Carer for about 10 years.

I started Sim racing with GPL which totally consumed all my spare time. But real life happened and I lost motivation and commitment. Discovered NetKar and all the great guys at XGN and competed in several seasons and after lots of practice managed to improve my skills to very average. The older I got the faster I was, and for the first time in my stellar Sim racing career I now find that I am constantly 3 to 4 seconds off the pace of the "Aliens". Getting old sucks lol.

I do my best to avoid contacts, will give racing room to faster drivers and never intentionally block. Sim racing is supposed to be fun and when I start taking it to seriously it will be time to give it up.

The "Westie" nick started several years ago when Lyn and I bought a secondhand Westfield Clubman (check out my Avatar). Unfortunately I only drive it about once a month, too many memories.

My main interests at present are music and my Church, where I play bass guitar, guitar or drums, wherever I am needed. Music influences have gone from heavy rock and jazz to blues and jazz. I guess a result of my changed personal situation.

Apart from owning 2 of the best guitars ever made my hobby now is making electric guitars. I find it very therapeutic and WAY cheaper than a therapist.

Hi,

My name is Robert ('Grubbet' on steam) and im from Orange NSW

Im 22 and fairly new to sim racing. I first got into racing playing Gran Turismo 4,5,6, but once I got a decent PC I searched for a better game and found Assetto Corsa. So far I have 100 hours in game, although most of that is with a 360 controller. (i was pretty decent with it). I recently bought a G27 and am getting a lot better with it. I like to race as clean as possible and always let faster racers pass.

I also race RC cars at my local club and usually finish in the top 3 there. (on road and off road)

I joined this forum in hopes to have a server to race on with clean drivers for some fun and challenging racing.

How do I get added to the server or get the password or however it works?

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Grubbet and welcome. I got your GUID, thanks. The grid is currently limited by the game to the pit boxes, which is 24. We're currently full, but there's a reserve list which I will add you to, so if someone can't make it on a race night,  you'll get a start. There's a race tonight (see the relevant thread), and I'm offering a free spot to our current reserves. If they don't turn up, I'll put you on the grid tonight.

I thought I better introduce myself as well, I'm Phil and I also work in IT. I'm a system administrator and mainly work with Microsoft solutions.
I'm 33 and live on the Gold Coast, a great place where it's summer nearly all year round.

I'm a bit of a gamer and really like my MMO's and sim racing, I started with the commodore 64 and was lucky to have both tape and floppy drives. My first real PC was a 286 8Mhz turbo'd to 10Mhz and I've had every generation of Intel CPU since, well at least all the major versions.

At the moment I'm starting a new business - application for a mobile phone and I also want to go to Uni and attempt a double degree, political science and bachelor of business early next year and hopefully won't be going back to IT once that commences.

I'm always keen for MP online racing so if you see me about and wanna race, just ask.  :)

Hi, I'm David, 44yo single fitter/machinist in Brisbane.
Never played computer games, never had a console or even a PC.
Until, I saw an ad in my F1Racing magazine for a Logitech Wingman wheel/pedals and GP3. :o :o :o :o
So I bought the wheel/game, then a PC, and have been driving since.
GP3, GP4, Netkar Namie (not Pro), NASCAR 2003 (now iRental), rFactor, ARCA Sim Racing, nKPro and now AC are the sims I've competed in.
Bought some others (EA F1, SimBin, etc.) but never really played them.

Still don't play other games, still don't know squat about PCs (except what's necessary to drive).
I'm just a die-hard motorsport fan. ;)

Hi,

I'm Tim. On Steam I'm Hugh Jarse with the nick of shiftA.

I Was looking for a game to get into away from the FPS's I was playing and found Assetto Corsa. Like
most I was blown away with it to the point where the insides of my hands are developing a concave shape from using my G27 wheel and the skin on my right heel is actually sore lol.

Anyway I wanted to have a race or two online so I setup a server called GT-AU it's been fun mostly and I met good people from overseas and here but the high pings and no talents with a penchant for mayhem can get tedious to say the least.

So I've signed up here knowing in time I'll enjoy racing with local enthusiasts and local pings.

Cheers Fellas.

Hey all,

I'm Nick, or Goatboy, you'll mostly see me practicing my reverse parking in to the kitty litter. Got in to online sim driving back in the LFS Stage 1 days, but have been playing racing sim's from back when I used to connect two computers with a serial cable in the early 90's. " I'm Paul Page. From Papyrus, this is IndyCar Racing " ..... ahh, the early days! Anyway, Assetto Corsa has brought the G25 back out of hiding, it now get's more desk time than the keyboard, and my thirst for racing simulators is alive again. So I'm also kinda considering building a 3 DOF motion simulator, but that's another kettle of fish ... figured I'd first go looking for some people to drive with. Hope to see you on track soon!

Hi Nick.  I know exactly what you mean - the last time I raced properly was rFactor and since then it's only been AC with its realistic grip modeling that has drawn me back.

You should come along Thursday night for the "fun" races.  Season 2 shouldn't be too far away either.

Hi! I'm Dave, 31 years old, married with a 2.5 year old, in Melbourne.

My time with racing sims started with LFS in about 2003. Played the demo for a very long time with only a mouse but never got fully into it. Finally got around to buying an S2 licence and wheel and loves every second of it. Played in EU leagues at 4am in the mornings and then found the AAL and MNR. Always seemed to get sick of no content and come back to play it after a while.

I tried to like rfactor but couldn't and finally got around to getting a free iracing membership this year, too bad about having to pay for all the damn content. :(

This brought me to AC, affordable and a great game overall!

another way back sim racer, started with F1GP ... missed the GPL era but was it LFS that really did it, raced in AAL as smasha d' back then. dabbled in rfactor1 after that for a bit ... toyed with iracing & rfactor2 as the racing bug was sinking its teeth in, but its AC that has me hook line and sinker.

Now with mplayer going and the leagues happenin' its a good time to be a sim-racer :)

I'm Dave, 29, I live just out of Melbourne, long time gamer since the ol' 286 days. I work in the transport industry. Massive fan of cars (I own a s14a touge beast) and dirt bikes (KDX 200). Up until AC I have only really played racing games on consoles, gran turismo, forza, etc. Really looking forward to some awesome races, and just putting it out there, some enduro's  :D

Hi Leonardo. I've certainly seen your name about the place. I don't know how kind the pings may be from Uruguay. I've set up the Tuesday practice server WWW xgn.com.au TUESDAY PRACTICE without a password. Grab the Castle Hill track from here  (http://www.madcowieproductions.com/castle-hill)and jump on the server and let us know your ping.

Post by: Jacob on September 30, 2014, 01:23:28 AM
Hey I'm Jacob. My online alias has always been Fox. I'm 20, from Tasmania and have been sim racing properly for about 2 months now as that is how long I have owned a wheel. I built my own racing cockpit from a wardrobe I destroyed, it's quite uncomfortable, an eyesore and doesn't like to move but it gets the job done.

Games and semi-nerdy computer stuff have been a hobby of mine for about 6 years, mostly fps and "e-sport" like games as I really enjoy the competitive side of it. My other hobby is cars. Anything cars, I like. Except new ones. I own a Datsun that is more than twice as old as me and gets twice as many looks from the girls than I do.  ;)

In my short time as a sim racer I've tried out a few games. iRacing was the first on my list to try. But after getting to D license and only being able to race one car unless I paid them more of my non existent money I decided it wasn't for me. Tried rFactor and RBR as well as some of the more arcade style racers, they are all getting a bit dated however. Then I saw AC for sale and jumped on the chance to save $20. Haven't looked back to any other game since. Something about street cars really gets me. Plus I think it has the potential to be the best of them all.

Anyway that's me. Heard about XGN league from Marty and decided to join up. I'm currently out of action until I hear if they will replace my wheel of if I'm going to have to do some work on it my self. Less than two months and the thing's already crapped itself  >:(
Hope to see you on race day some time soon.

Hi Jacob and welcome to XGN :) Hopefully you'll be able to race with us soon. There will be some kind of weekly race for you for sure. We have the main Tuesday league with a race for reserves at the same time, or there's also a Cobra series on Thursday nights.

What kind of wheel do you have? Every wheel I've ever had has lasted me years. What went wrong with it?

Howdy Jacob,
nice intro, most here are car nuts along with sim tragics :)
Strange about the wheel, it may be less broken than you think, post some info and someone here may have the answer...

And as Wally said, Thursday nights Cobra Cup (http://www.xgn.com.au/index.php?board=43.0), this Thursday if the server behaves itself we will be running the corvette 6r on 2 tracks for short fun runs between Season one and two, come along if you get your setup fixed.

Hey there,
accidentally stumbled across Bruce online and heard what's happening here at AC. One of our old racing friends Fabbi showed me a demo version of AC a while ago, really liked it but didn't follow up so here I am now and I'll give it a go!
Been racing on gamers crib, xgn and nogrip years and years ago which i fondly remember...happy times! But as always...life gets in the way of everything and I stopped racing all together until P&G 3 came out. Couldn't get it working online so i just used it every now and again to thrash around the Nordschleife. Not sure how I'm going to find the time to race and i never used steam and generally hate dealing with pc's (because they are only as stoopid as their user, right?!) See how we go...got a visitor from Germany atm so I need 2-3 weeks to get things sorted.
I'm 43,not sure how many times i've been married, lost count.Interested in all things cars and motorsport, especially historic.I used to collect model cars (mainly 1:18) and currently in the process of selling most of them (hint hint)
Cheers Marty

Hi Marty. Welcome to XGN. I'm sure you'll find some racing to suit you here on either Tuesday or Thursday nights. Keep your eye out for various fun races or season sign up threads.

Bacchulum is our resident Steam expert. If you have any problems, ask him, because he's had them all.

Hi and Welcome back Marty/mcmeek, haha didn't take long to be enticed  into racing again!
We had many fun P&G events over the years and pleased you decided to have a look at Asetto Corsa.

Steam, normally painless
Asettto Corsa install and run, normally painless
Adding extras, just needs a little knowledge, a few short cuts for your file explorer and... all is okay

See you on track when things settle for you.

PS nice choice for your avatar, one of you slot cars?
Got an early Holden slot car for sale?

hehe,yep...I'll try and get Fabbi back onboard!
I should be fine getting everything set up...I'm just not very patient but I'm sure with the help of the forum I'll get things sorted!

The avatar is actually a real car,a 289 Cobra ,CSX 2345. The only unrestored Cobra in existence!
My dad took the pic during practise at the 1000km race at the Nuerburgring in 64' :-)
Bob Bondurant at the wheel...car didn't finish.
I got lots of pics and slides and a few photo albums...we should have tea somewhere after the Revival!
Cheers Marty

Hi Fabio here, aka fabbi, fab or baf, they all work. Online I'm Bafs17 :). Marty has got me back on board and I have been using Assetto Corsa since the steam release last year.
I'm 43, from Adelaide and a primary school teacher, currently with year 4/5s. Have been into sim racing since GTL and have fond memories of online racing with gamerscrib, no grip and possibly a short stint here on xgn. Was racing with Mr Mcmeek and others with P&G and then took a rest for a few years due to study and work commitments.
Cheers

Marty Cervan we have all taken a vote (of which everyone else was absent)  and decided that you have to change your name to "Mary".  Dick said this better reflects your driving and gender.   And besides,  Sally needs some company.

I know right. I can't believe he would get so upset. This screen shot of his shelby cobra. Can clearly see it says "Mary" on the license plate.
And the skin itself speaks volumes of his preferences as it is!

Hi Mcmeek. Or Marty?
Good to see you know a good skin when you see one!

This skin is taken by one of the locals, Mary, for Thursday night Chicken & Cobra race night.... Or whatever it's called this season...
Anyway, he might be willing to share. But as seen in this thread he is known to have mood swings... All goes back to a unfortunate cranium accident he had with his tailgate while unpacking his snowboard. Did some serious damage I heard. Had to replace the whole tailgate..

Besides this is just one of many unconventional 'Dick Skins' you'll see on the Shelby Cobras.

mcmeek  aka "the yellow peril" will do for now.

Now that's a very touching story,and so sad. :'(
Are you by any chance related to Richard Cheese?

Can't wait to get started but unfortunately i'll be flat out for the next 2 weeks and I have to figure out if my calculator can run the game...
until then i guess i'll just have to hold my horses... :-X
Title: Re: Racer Introductions

I think Dick is related to Richard Head, and regarding the skins we let him loose with the crayons. He does have some strange tastes but at least it keeps him off the streets for a bit. It helps keep Perth a little safer for those few hours hes kept busy so even if it may be some questionable skinning styles we are doing an entire city a fabour by putting up with them. We did give him a challenge with creating a zip archive and it only took him about 3 weeks to figure it out so he is quite a quick learner.  ;D

Hey Harris good to see you here, thought this was the official forum at first lol. Jump on my practice server normally called "Marty's Aus public server" see what your ping is and how the other locals end up running with you. I dont know what sort of pings you get to aussie servers but I have seen guys in the US get pings of around 160 on our sydney based servers so Indonesia should be better then that I think.

For those that dont know Harris he has made a couple of real cool mod tracks we really should run in some of the league races.

Im sure hed probably like to see some racing on his own creation, just may be in a shock if some resident aliens get out there with some silly laptimes. RC coming with rift support should bring Darren back, Guybrush is always bloody quick even in a fricken robbin maybe Ben C will also run the odd round. There is also the reverse alien or maybe undercover alien AKA Dick Forrest who can be quite a challenge to lap multiple times in a race.  ;D

I did race Harris Muhammad on my server a bit today only once real close and had no issues other then not being able to get past.  ;) Was within inches for the last couple laps no warps or lags and ive seen much worse connections from more local guys in earlier builds.

The netcode seems more solid with server at 15hz other then when peoples connections are playing up its quite easy to race people with 170 pings like he had. Was also a good, clean fast and fair driver so Id have no issues racing him on league nights. Cant say that about 50% of the others on the public server, most you need to give the full track and some more. The good drivers no issues racing side by side or hanging onto their bumper for a few laps.

G'day everyone, long time sim racer and gamer here, possibly have raced with a few of the guys here before over the years. Have mostly been iRacing for the past 6 years but Assetto Corsa has put new life into private leagues like this one right here so I am very keen to have a crack with you guys.

Really enjoying what AC brings to the table thus far and I foresee a great future for smaller clubs like this one with many many seasons of League racing ahead ... I look forward to enjoying it with you all :D

Hi guys, bit of a return for me here i used to race in the rfactor f1a league and v8 championship when it was run here. Been a couple of years since i last raced in a league so im keen to get back into it especially since i see you guys are doing a GT championship, so happy days :)
HI Matthew111, welcome back!
I'm sorry I don't remember you, probably because of the "f1a" league and your probably better than me :)
I'm sure when Wally is back, maybe tomorrow??? he may have more info, but in the mean time have a look at both the Assetto Corsa League night's forums and get practicing. :)

Thanks mate it was probably 7 6 years a go i raced here haha, shall do.

Hi Matthew. Thanks for your GUID.

Best do the right thing and give you my intro... after infiltrating XGN for the upcoming ARSE vs XGN AC event.
Some of you will know me as Flinty72 which is what I used in LFS & is also my STEAM / AC Username.
So yes I'm an ARSE & have been since 2007, back when I played LFS in the AAL.

Real name is Wayne Flint, aged 42, married with 2 kids (Boy 10 & Girl 6) & live in Melbourne's glorious South Eastern burbs.
I work for the biggest Telco in AUS (don't hold it against me) as a PM in the Wireless/Mobiles space.

I started Sim racing online late in 2006 with LFS in MNR before the XGN affiliation & also in the AAL before helping create, mod & run the LFSEA events with Sapient (Oz-Bee) for the short time it lasted. I then went back in time to discover GPL but eventually I gave up sim racing in 2008 to pursue competitive road cycling.
But the simracing bug caught me again recently for a few reasons, one was I had some spare PC equipment & thought I really should make the cockpit I had always dreamed of & two I discovered Assetto Corsa & couldn't believe how good it looked & felt.
So from there I built my PVC cockpit (which is still WIP) & also helped start AACL with norbs, Pixelboy & Righty.

Looking forward to racing you guys in the ARSE vs XGN event & maybe I'll jump into one of your sessions in the future, assuming we don't kill each other tomorrow night. ;)

Hi everybody at the other side of earth  ;) and a special hello to Wally

Why I decided to register here ...? A kind of saying thanks to Wally for his work for AC, apps or tools I'm now using in our french league.

Jempy is an old belgian guy 63 years old ( body ) and much younger in the mind.  :)
I began simracing with an arcade game named Shift, I quickly left as I was more attracted by real simulation, being a motor race fan since my 14.

I visited then GTR2, Race07, Rfactor ... and of course now Assetto Corsa.
Learned alone how to use Gimp2, how to skin .... and how game were working.
Present at most great forums as RD, Nogrip Racing and F1Classic .... even though my native language is ... french.

I'm now co-admin, moderator and member of the Race Direction for +- 2 years at a french league with Race07 and now AC as main platform.
Treasurer of the french association ... the worst part, sometimes !  :P

Sorry in advance for not being often present here and surely never or rarely present for a race or another activity: time of day or surely high pings are surely not the best things in this case.

Thanks Wally for your work and have pleasure with AC, all drivers of this league.

Cheers,
Jempy.

Edit:
Ooops I forgot !
We will be in Australia this friday night for our  last round of our AC Open Race championship .... at Bathurst.  8)

Hello Jempy, what a pleasure to read your posting, thanks.  Certainly is good to see 'our' Wally is appreciated so widely as well as here.

Have fun at Bathurst...

Question:  your assessment of the AC Bathurst track for a league race?
Title: Re: Racer Introductions
Post by: Jempy on December 10, 2014, 09:16:38 AM
Thanks Wally and Bruce,

First assessment then: too wide but ... walls are so near sometimes  :P
36 pits in the Ui_track file ... but that's only the number for the grid ...

I already had to open a second server for our pre-qualifications as the nineteenth driver didn't appear in the log ... so quickly noticed the problem.
No problem as we'll surely be +- 28 or 30 drivers and in this case I prefer creating 2 servers ....
Better so or I don't know how many drivers will see the finish line ... or how many will be crashed and glued to the .... walls !  ;D ;D
We'll be driving the 2 GT2 cars there.

Final assessment after our friday race.

Hey

31 from Sydney here, originally from the UK, been in Australia for 6 years and had both my kids here. Work as a software developer.

Only recently got a gaming PC after a long break of just playing consoles. Playing a lot of Forza games with a controller, but as soon as I got Assetto Corsa I had to go and buy a G27.

Was on the server list the other day and saw the XGN servers, so googled it and ended up here. I play pretty much every night so would be good to play with some of you guys.

Aye Guys,

My steam name is Whitemoo, some of the usernames i see here look familiar in the races ive raced online!

If i hit anybody, its really because ive just started on this whole online racing thing, and i am very sorry.

Simraceway got me into racing sims, but looking back at it, it really lacked that online community. Simraceway was nice as it had some cars ive owned in real life, and it has taught me a little bit about how those cars behaved on track before i did it for real.

Hope to see you guys in some online races!

I have been diving a bit with the RaceOnOz guys and I did the last AC league they ran. But I am looking to get as much track time as life (and wife) will allow.

I also run a server every now and then.

Hello All.

My name Is Jim (PC49NZ), that tells quite a bit about me actually.

I have never done online racing, but have chased, at some very high speeds, some not so nice individuals in real life, for more years than I care to think about.

I got involved in this site through Maurice King, alias 'Mozzman' who is  well known in the racing circles.  I hope one day to meet you all online and will try my best to keep out of the way of you fast guys.  Just remember though us wrinkles do tend to potter along.

Regards to you all, it's a pleasure to be a member. Oh, nearly forgot, bought my copy through Steam.

Hello Dick,

Spent all my working life in the Police, mainly in sole Charge Stations, in the back blocks of the Country where if you required help it could take 2-3 hours to get it,  and in younger times, when I thought I was bullet proof, in the AOS (Armed Offenders Squad).

Unfortunately, was involved in a ding dong battle in the wee hours, on my lonesome at the time,  and as a result I was left with severe spinal injuries (and a long stay at Burwood Spinal Hospital in Christchurch) which has left me extremely disabled (bed or Wheelchair ridden now).

Regards,
Jim.

Hi guys, I'm AJ. 36 years old, happily married with no kids and two cats. Used to work in IT but recently I've been helping my Mrs out with her Photography business.

Been Sim Racing on and off ever since I got one of these bad boys at about the age of 6 http://i.imgur.com/SOzghsg.jpg. I recognise a few names on here from around the traps and maybe some of you recognise me too (I go by the name AJ in AC as well). Look forward to seeing you more on the track! :)

Hi AJ. Welcome to XGN. A fun series of 4 weeks at the Ring starts next Tuesday. You can read about it here:

Come along.... I'll PM you the password.

Thanks Wally, will have a look! :)

hey boys, Michael (aka fozzy) here, i'm 18, used to sim race a few years ago on rfactor and iracing, and i am looking to get back into it on AC. Have a fairly below average computer, and race on a g27 (use shifter and clutch in cars that have it).

G'day everyone!

I'm Tim and I've recently parted with my MX-5. I used to attend track days (just club sprints) so now I'm jumping on AC to get my fix.

Every time I set up my wheel the kids want to take over the computer, I think my 6 year old daughter is a better steerer than most typical Brisbane drivers you see on the way to work!

Cheers

Hi all,

I'm Darren (doobs or mofodoobs) and I'm returning after a couple of years absence. Currently working in a musical equipment shop, have been a public servant, and worked in a coffee roast house. I roast my own coffee, and like making food.

I raced NKPRo here for a couple of seasons and I'm really looking forward to returning.

I started out with Indy500 on the Amiga (I'm not counting pitstop on the 64), F1GP before eventually moving to Indycar Racing 2 on the PC. I started online competition over at Austeam with Nascar 4, then Nascar 2003, and rFactor before iracing splintered the online racing community a bit. I've been at iracing for over 5 years but rarely compete. It's not much fun, unlike here.  :)

Cheers
Darren

Hey all, I'm Jake from the Gold Coast. 29 years old, working from home and living the bachelor life.

Brand new to simracing and racing in general. I'll admit I've never been a car person - I drive a Mazda 3 and 99% of my time at the Indy/GC600 is spent looking for boobies - but for some reason I recently had the urge to get a racing wheel and give simracing a go. I picked myself up a G27 off Gumtree, bought a couple games (AC, Project Cars, Dirt Rally, Wreckfest and a free 3-month trial for iRacing) and have been having so much fun with it over the past couple weeks. It's basically consumed me, when I'm not racing or working I'm watching youtube videos on how to improve my lap times or day dreaming about my future 6DOF motion simulator with Occulus Rift sim rig.

AC is my favourite of the sims but I'm always having trouble finding servers where the players actually race instead of playing destruction derby with each other. I'm here because you guys seem to take the racing more seriously while still having a lot of fun- looks like a great little community. Hoping to get involved with the league next year.

Anyway I'm looking forward to meeting you all on the track and hit me up if you want to race.

Cheers

Smashing people off the road is an underrated tactic.  I practice this on Marty and others during prac. sessions which works well!

Welcome aboard.  Lots of helpful people here and Wally is a coding genius who puts together heaps of cool features for the league.  If you want good racing on the public servers then keep an eye out for Marty's servers.  The racing is normally pretty good on those and he runs Minorating which is like the safety rating in iracing.

We also practice on the XGN servers which are dotted about - I don't think they are passworded but no doubt Wally will PM you the pword.

Sin, Cj to friends.

34, about to get married. 3 children, my son will no doubt start on here in the future when he wants a crack at Dad on the track. Ride really fast bikes for fun, I teach kids basic dirt biking skills during school holidays.

Was part of the XGN  BHD crew, although a later starter with that one and then Joint Ops.

Military full time until recently, Infantry if you're curious. I am also a sparky by trade. Applying for Emergency services, not sure how that will go as I am bit broken from the Army. Yay

Forza fan, AC convert. I have Pcars aswell but haven't really done anything in that yet because AC seems to be enough for now. I build my own sets.

Only really driving the Ford Escort at the moment, I love that car and it's helping me learn the tracks as well as how to tune the handling.

RSR live timing - Chris Harvey
Steam - Sin_23

Race number 23. 023 or 230 when 23 is already taken.

Looking forward to racing more, being away less and learning lots from those aliens in the group.

Cheers.

Hey everyone, Paul here

I've been into sim racing for a while now, playing rFactor 1/2, Gran Turismo 5 (If that counts) and now Assetto Corsa. I've been racing with a lot of you XGN guys lately and was told to come check your website out and join in for some events and have some fun!

I'm 27, live in NSW and do IT Networking. I've been into cars heavily since I first got behind a wheel and quickly found myself getting into drifting, and over time really started to enjoy the competitive nature of racing, there's always a way to be better and it's a big draw for me. I tend to be a really competitive driver, and while not fast as some of you guys, am always pushing to try and be faster than my last lap and to beat the other drivers on track :p My Steam ID is "penguintwitch" if any of you want it.

I look forward to continuing to drive with you guys as it's been a bunch of fun already!

p.s. Please give Marty a 100kg ballast on all servers :)

I'm not as quick as the myth seems to be!  We all give each other a run for our money, or lack there-of :)  I think you'll mix it up well towards the front of the pack, as long as Marty doesn't smash you off the track that is.

G'day to all at XGN. 60yr old from Adelaide. Simracing for about 15yrs or so. rF/rF2/NR2003/GSC/RBR/AC/PCars. Haven't done a lot in AC (100+hours) and haven't ventured online with it yet. Kinda got put off with the high pings and not much local action. As I don't own the Dreampacks that also limits me. Still trying hard to really like this sim so decided to put rF2 away for a while and commit to some serious race time. I prefer to race road cars on the shorter tracks but will have a go at anything that isn't an openwheeler.
My nicks these days are:
AC: slideways
PCraps: ttb57
rF2: thetokebloke
Wouldn't mind joining in for some laps sometime. Not the fastest around but always try to keep things clean and fair.

EDIT: Forgot to mention hobbies:
Simracing, making home brew, drinking homebrew

Howdy slideways, I like your demographic/s!
Thursday is always the place to be, :)   We have a great group of racers, growing as time goes on.  Flexible enough to restart a race if a problem occurs, delay a while while someone needs to reboot, but fun and enjoyable 'serious gentlemanly racing".
We have just moved to longer races for the first season for a year, for some change, and along you come... but give it a go, we would like to see you there. (we finish early :) )

everything you need is the first posting in this thread (http://xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=1341.msg23522#msg23522).

Filter on line for "XGN Marty" you find all of us :)

Ok, so I'm gonna need Dreampack1 for this. No biggee. Whilst I prefer short tracks I do like Longford and Bathurst (I'd race Bathurst in a shopping trolley) and pretty much any street circuit. Not a big fan of the modern GP style circuits but definitely don't mind loooong races. 3hrs+ are a blast.

I've been sim racing with the ARSE guys for a couple years now and I feel like I still have free time for more racing. So I thought I would sign up here and see if I can get into some racing over here as well.

I'm not in front of my home pc atm, but I can get my GUID provided soon. I'm assuming current series are being run as I write this, I might start with your fun nights (Thursday?) and sign up for the next series when it comes up.

Hi all,

I've been peer pressured into joining here by a few of you (Marty & GB I'm looking at you).

Some of you will have seen me randomly poking in and out of the servers from time to time, decided it's probably overdue for me to join and say hello.

Little about me... 25 years young, no kids (yet, thankfully) and have been into sim racing for probably over 10 years - just never done it very consistently. I seem to go through phases where I'll play it a lot and then not touch it for a month. I studied civil engineering, however work in the telecommunications sector as a Project Engineer doing mostly project management, but a decent amount of hands on site work (mostly within data centres) as well which sees me travelling to Sydney and Brisbane from Melbourne quite often.

I also dabble in some sprints/track days in real life in my  '03 RenaultSport Clio (Silver - http://danielgphoto.com/clio/140914/) which was my daily and now my track car, with an E46 M3 as a daily (http://danielgphoto.com/m3/190715/). As it may be apparent, I also do a bit of photography!

Quick video from my first time to Phillip Island a couple of months ago - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPeixxlF3uA
Have since gone quicker doing a 1:57.8551, but probably won't be able to get back out there until June now.

Anyway that's probably enough - I'll get into entering the Tuesday league now and hopefully start to see you all a bit more often :)

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been playing a bit of Assetto online with you guys and thought it might be time to introduce myself.

I’m 28 from country vic, love jumping on for a race but don’t get a lot of time for online racing anymore. I've have found Assetto great for me to jump online for a quick bit of fun instead of iracing. Currently my name is Josh Hammond in Assetto, but my steam tag is L67Boost which I assume you can change too but I haven’t got too yet.

Hopefully I can get some more time to join in fun!

Cheers for the fun racing,

Josh

I've have found Assetto great for me to jump online for a quick bit of fun instead of iracing. Currently my name is Josh Hammond in Assetto, but my steam tag is L67Boost which I assume you can change too but I haven’t got too yet.

Hopefully I can get some more time to join in fun!

Cheers for the fun racing,

Josh

Hi Josh. I had some fun chasing you last night at VIR. You had good pace. You're welcome to come along to Tuesday night races too, but that's generally more of a league commitment to turning up every week, if you can manage it. There's one more week left in the current season, then we'll have some fun runs and start the next season.

Cheers Wally, I think I had a bit of good luck last night. I wish I'd jumped on earlier to get more races in, good fun in the little escorts!

Thanks for the invite, I'll be sure to let you know if I can make the commitment  to racing every week.

I think I have tailed a few here on Marty's server, so thought I would join up.

Hi Sean and welcome. We have two leagues - a more "formal" Tuesday night league with bigger numbers, and a more casual Thursday night league which often looks at mod cars and tracks. The Tuesday league is about to start a GT2 season, and Thursdays will start a Ford Escorted 1600 season.  Let us know which one you'd like to have a run in, and we'll send more details.

Those antispam things are pretty silly.

You can join in Tuesday whenever you want. Mid season is OK. Can you PM me your GUID please. I use that to put you on the grid.

Maybe there's a new version of VIR - not sure. Which server are you getting the mismatch on? It might be a question for Marty.

I'll PM you the server password, which is also the TeamSpeak password, for Thursday nights.

Hi All,

The name's Keith, I'm 32 I hail from Brisbane but reside in Sydney.

Love all things motorsport, particularly F1 & V8 Supercars. I've been into sim racing for a few years now and have most of the racing sims/games out. Most of my time is spent in RF2 in a little private league which is great but I have a little more time available now so thought I would see what's out there.

My recent introduction to the Monorating system in AC restored my interest in the game, so I ran on a XGN server and noticed the peolpe on there were quick, consistent, and fair that's all I'm looking for :)

hopefully see you out on the track,
Keith

Hi Keith and welcome to XGN. You'll certainly find consistent and fair drivers here, of all skill levels from alien to mere mortal. I run the Tuesday night league. Season 14 in GT cars (still TBD) is about to start in a couple of Tuesday's time. I've sent you a PM with details.

The Thursday night league is run by Phil.8 and usually features slower cars and more mod cars and tracks, and is generally a little more casual but with good racing.

I always try to race as clean as possible so I hope I don't get in anyone's way  8)

I watch all the F1 and some of the V8's when I get the time.

Hi RussG,

I do not think you need much more than read these:
http://xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=1617.0 (season rules)
http://xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=1620.0 (trial night)
http://xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=758.0 (mandatory app)
http://xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=1623.0 (mandatory app)
http://xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=1625.0 (more apps)

As for racing regulations, aside from a few specific rules for t1 and t2 in lap 1, the rest is... well, FIA.

Then you can go through the threads in here to see a bit of the past discussions: http://xgn.com.au/index.php?board=42.0

HeyHey!

I'm Masa, 25 year old simracer.

I just saw you guys have servers running in AC so I decided to register and I want to race with you guys.
Public servers don't offer much so I want race with a group like this.

I'm not sure how this thing works so I will just make it brief and simple so I will just reply here.
If there's room for this season I'd like to join in if possible.

Any tips for the new guy?

Thanks!

Hi Andrew, and welcome to XGN. As you may have seen, we have racing on Tuesday nights (more formal league environment, but still not racing for sheep stations), and a Thursday night league as well which is a little more casual. On Tuesdays, we're having a few non-season fun runs until the new year, when the next season will start. Keep an eye on the forums.

I'll PM you the server and TeamSpeak password (the TeamSpeak server is ts.xgn.com.au - it makes life a lot easier being on TeamSpeak).

There are a few people that know you that have joined recently, maybe youve been describing the sexy sheep on offer on your travels?

A sheepstation would be like heaven for you guys too, imagine all those sheep being stripped.  ;D

I wonder is there a new teamspeak voice synthesizer that makes New Zealanders sound normal as I havent heard one on ts during a league race yet.  ;)

I love cars and racing, mainly watch formula 1 and a little rally. Ive done a few track days in my mx5 and only span 5 times in the first 6 laps lol

Recently got a steering wheel and Assetto corsa so its safe to say i'm still slow haha. I want to get into it more and improve and race a few people as free practice or 300 ping racing gets annoying after a while. I've seen race department has a beginner drivers course for newbies who sign up, is there anything like that here?

My steam page is here (http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198091101942/edit) for anyone who wants to add me on steam. Also have teamspeak and various over voice stuff. Hope to catch you guys around :)

Hi Max, and welcome to XGN. It doesn't matter how fast you are - with a big enough field, there's always someone to race against. All you have to be is fair, clean and respectful (i.e. not crash into people, or at least too often - we all do it, that's racing), so everyone can have fun.

I'll send you a PM with a few additional details.

Hi Stas. Welcome1 I am sure Wally will send you more info when your connection is ready. In the meantime, have a look at the sections dedicated to the Tuesday league and the Thursday fun races to see what we do and---in case you have to choose like I do---which one would suit you best. Also, as soon as your connection is good enough, join us in the many open servers Marty, Phil, Wally and other organize. Just search for "XGN" in the launcher.

Cheers
Joe

Hey look at that, two years to the day that I joined this fine group of racers. I'd never done a single sim race, and had only every played Forza with a controller before joining. Feel like I've come a long way in those two years (which I guess is really 1yr 4m due to 8m baby break) and thanks to all those that have helped me out along the way. Race nights are the highlight of my week and I frickin' love it!

EDIT: I'd clearly forgotten how old I was in that original post as I'm 34 now  :o

Hey Fellas,
Signing up to say Hi, as this appears to be the Aussie AC community hub.. Ive seen a few names online here before in casual races..

I'd like to join in on a league at some point (give you someone else to beat) but cant really commit to anything right now.

Would like to ask if there is a particular night that is more popular for practicing / quick races?

cheers,
Paul

Hey all,

Just thought I'd stop by and say G'day, KeRo is my racing name, 40 year old male from Sydney. I've been sim racing for a number of years now, started off in Race07 and rFactor/rFactor 2, then moved over to AC a couple of years ago. I'm here because I'm looking for a local group to race with on local servers. Been racing on US and European servers lately but the lag can cause issues/accidents and I want to try and avoid that as much as I can.

I'm keen for any sort of racing, the idea of League racing is appealing to me more recent months and am keen to see what it's all about.

Cheers, KeRo

Greetings KeRo

Thursday's is the relaxed racing night, a new season about to start with some older classics; real proper cars. For something a bit more challenging the Tuesday league is running the modern Lotus Exos open wheeler.

Hello all,

Actually signed up a while ago but never got round to posting. Was pointed here after driving in one of Marty's servers to take a look at some league racing.

Based in Auckland, NZ, I used to dabble in rFactor back in the day and got my start in Gran Turismo (3 thru 5).

Not that fast but I try my best to race clean. Haven't been on the public servers for a while but might get back into it soon.

See y'all round =]

Hi All,

My name's Phill, gamertag GymnasticHippo (XboxLive registration plus wrong button = random as hell name and it just kinda stuck). 31 year old with wife and 2 girls (3yo and 12 week old).

Have been a full on racing game enthusiast since a wee lad, cut my teeth on Gran Tursimo 1 & 2, switched to xbox for the Forza series and eventually gave up console for PC. I enjoy FPS just as much as racing and after many many years i'm only just starting to get into the concept of MP racing. I've always gone for the realism factor and enjoyed switching off all assists from the first lap for the immersion factor.

Have owned AC for a while but got swindled by PCars. Two corrupt career files that saw 100+ hours of racing reset (twice) left me a sour taste and I've started moving back to AC. A quick google search and this came up in number 1 result for AC MP racing leagues. I'm not top tier times but I think I hold my own ok; I definitely prefer clean racing.

The two youngsters eliminate tv time for me and what time I do get I tend to jump on the PC (I prefer interactive screen time).

Looking forward to racing with you :)

Let us know if you want to race in the Tuesday league (a little more rules, bigger grid), or the Thursday league (more casual, tends to historic cars) - or both, of course. I run the Tuesday league; Phil.8 runs the Thursday league. You can take a look at the respective sub forums.

Tuesday we are just about to start a season in the Ford Escort 1600.

In general, we could be racing any DLC car at any time. The current Tuesday season won't need any DLC, but I think the Thursday racing will need the Porsche Pack at the moment. It's pretty cheap.

I'll send you a PM with more Tuesday details a bit later.

I'm keen to get involved in a local league. Only had my wheel for 2 weeks now but making quick progress in Assetto Corsa and rfactor2.

I see there's a Thursday and Tuesday night option for AC, any guidance on how to get involved would be appreciated.

Looking forward to racing with you all and hopefully I can keep it clean and not cause too much trouble.

Hey, keen to join in on some local racing, my back story is almost identical to gymnastichippo except my two girls and I are a bit older. I'm not super fast but respectful on the track. I do prefer modern gt or formula style driving with paddle shift and left foot braking, but still enjoy a good bit of nostalgic clutch and h-pattern, just never put the effort in to get good at it.
Thanks bueller

Hiya chaps

My name is Paul - I'm 47 and I live in Adelaide with my wife of 12 years and our two daughters 9 and 6.  I'm an Electronic Engineer and work as project manager for a global oil and gas research company.

I come from a family of racing as my dad raced Speedcars at both Rowley and Speedway Park for many years.  I got into karting in my late teens and early 20's for a few years.  I then spent some time engineering/restoring/modifying my first car, a HR Holden - which I've still got.  Buying a house put the brakes on karting and playing cars and so I found my (budget) racing fix with rFactor and a Logitech GT wheel.

Today I race mainly in Assetto Corsa but sometimes throw on Dirty Rally.

Up until recently my rig consisted of a 80/20 type chassis with Sparco seat, Fanatec CS base, BMW wheel and pedals along with a triple monitor setup.  Late last year I changed over to VR which has really renewed my sim racing interest again so I'm now in the process of putting together a OSW setup and re-jigging everything.

Looking forward to catching up with a few like minded guys on-line for a few racing sessions..

Cheers

Paul

We've just finished a Tuesday night season, and have a couple of fun runs lined up for the coming Tuesdays. Next Tuesday is a run in the Ferrari F2004 - you'll find a thread with details in the Tuesday sub-forum. Qualifying is at 8:15pm Adelaide time, with a practice session before that.

There's also racing in the Cobra on Thursday nights, run by Phil.8.

Hi Paul, welcome , Flattops Thursdays is centered around historic cars and tracks as much as possible , with the emphasis on Fun and Clean racing. I used to have a HR Premier , I rolled it over racing a mate of mine, I still remember hanging upside down in the seatbelt, totally disorientated, trying to work out how to get out of the car ;D ;D.

I come from a family of racing as my dad raced Speedcars at both Rowley and Speedway Park for many years.
Today I race mainly in Assetto Corsa but sometimes throw on Dirty Rally.

Cheers

Paul

What was his name Paul, cos I was a big fan of Rowley Park, didn't miss a meeting for about 10 yrs in the 60's, and had a cousin who raced there too.
Murray Parker was his name.

Cheers boys and thanks for the warm welcome..

gawaterman - Dads name was Brian Mullins.  Orange Speedcar 21 and then black speedcar 33 at Speedway park.  Dad has a serious accident at Speedway Park in 86 that essentially ended his racing days.

rooshooter - you gotta love the old HR's.  Mine was bought brand new by my grandfather and as I said, was my first car...  lots of great memories in it but unfortunately I don't drive her much these days.  Hoping to race it again next summer..

I'll certainly check out the F2004's next Tuesday...

Thanks again guys.

Well at least the HR was much better than the HD.
My dad told me the HD stood for "Horrible Design" and HR was for "Hurriedly Righted" (he had a HR), but my first car was an EH and I still gotta love an EH when I see one  ;D

HR is my favourite car and was my first

I had a HR x2, those twin Strombergs were a pain in the arse to tune together.
Time I finished it had triple su carbs and a 7/8th Bathurst race cam, basically a hot xu1 motor,  lots of heel toe to keep it idling at traffic lights and had the most amazing exhaust bark I have ever heard, still the fastest car I have ever driven.

It had a set of tramp rods as well.  One day going a bit fast with a few people in the back around a steep corner one decided to dig it the road, the most violent moment in a car I have had, in a split second we were facing the other way going WTF just happened.

Another time cruising along my rear wheel with the axel still attached decided to over take me,  pulled off all the brakes hoses which causes me to have no brakes, I was lucky to have the tramp rods that day for it to grind away on the road.

It ended up towing caravans in smash up derbys :(

Its one car I really miss and plan to buy another one day

I haven't raced with arse for some time now, never purchased pcars2 and that's pretty much the only sim they seem to play these days.

You've joined at a good time, new season will be starting soon. Don't forget to vote for your preferred car on the upcoming season too!

Hi Steve and welcome. We've got a fun run next Tuesday that Phil.8 is organising while I'm away that you're welcome to come and join in. Then the following Tuesday it's the final race of the current season in the 1975 F1's. Then there'll be some Tuesday fun runs which will be a good opportunity to get some more Tuesday races in.

Hi Dan and welcome. Thursday night racing is a good place to start. It's a bit more casual and a good place to learn the ropes. We've just finished a season, and there will be a couple of fun races in the next 2 weeks. Keep an eye on the Thursday forum here http://xgn.com.au/index.php?board=43.0 for details.

To install mod cars and tracks, you usually have to unzip the download into your steamapps/common/assettocorsa/content/cars and tracks folders and restart your game.

I'll PM you the server password.

Any questions, just ask.

Thanks for the welcome .

Bit daunted by the GPL cars , they are so hard to drive after driving the Mazda cups .

I was allocated the Mc Claren  on sign up so will stick with it , seems easier to handle than some of the others.

If anyone has a good base set up for the Mc Claren that they could kindly give me that would be appreciated.

Welcome, we spoke on the practice server last night, come along if you like, Thursdays is all about fun, nothing serious,  the faster guys often self handicap, the worst part is the crazy person running it and how he makes it up as he goes along, so the rules could change at anytime without notice,  all in the spirit of fun of course  :P

Here's a base setup done on Deutschlandring.
It handles a bit different to the Eagle I'm used to, but the numbers are good, polish to taste. ;)

Thank you for the set ups,  i'll give  Bacc's a go tonight , Been using his watkins glenn base set up with adjusted gears, tyres and suspension , I'm down to 3;18 , i reckon a theoretical of about 3;16. The Hair pins are a weak spot and 2 small sections of the track i just can't find the speed of the top runners.

Yeah Mclaren lacks the speed of the Fezza but i'll stick with it and i like the idea of seeing all sorts of cars on the grid , might have to change for Monza that track is all about pure speed.

Hello to all
Scott is the name that my parents gave me, although Mum changed it to dickhead when i was 14.
Before i dislocated my shoulder at work i was a forkie/warehouse guru in Sydney. Currently I'm a DIYer fixing up the house bit by bit with any spare change  i can find in the couch.
I found AC while watching the YouTube(er) AMSTUDIO about doing a DIY handbrake (for Dirt Rally on Xbox). Now I'm doing laps with a Thrustmaster T300 (F1 wheel add-on), with my customised G920 pedals (firmer springs in all pedals) G920 shifter running through an Arduino board attached to my F1/GT Next Level Racing cockpit infront of my 55" screen or the Oculus Rift for supported games.
I somehow stumbled onto this site yesterday and I'm soooooo very glad that I did.
Lookly forward to come hard competetive fair racing ........

Cheers

Hi Scott, welcome. There's good racing to be had here, with decent grids. We race Tuesdays and Thursdays. We've got a race tonight, but it's probably too late notice to get into that one, but I can get you set up for the following week. Thursday is also less formal racing, easy to drop in, so head over to the Thursday subforum and see what's happening there.

What name did you race under?

I used to have the Superoo team.

Now that would be telling, sshh. But IIRC I mostly ran in AJ's team or as a privateer using AJ's car.

Members may've heard me speak of AJ Weber who went on to do the tyres for Pcars, (for the better or worse I suppose) but he and Hoss, the admin, worked in software and we had a sync client and every round had generated parameters for the cars, mostly tyres, to suit the weather and what not of that particular race.
Racing at six o'clock in the morning was strange though, as the League was US based.

Perhaps I was a better driver then as my BAC would have been below 0.05 and dropping whereas now I start at about 0.10 and going up rapidly during our races.   :o

Hi there Ben. Are you keen to get into some Tuesday night racing in the Lotus Exige 240R? We've just done a couple of rounds so far in the current season. There's also Thursday night racing which you can read about here: http://xgn.com.au/index.php?board=43.0 (Phil.8 is the guy to speak to there).

Hi team,

Scott from Brisbane here.  Casual simracer, been looking for a good australian league to join for some likeminded racing fun.

I've been through the FAQ, PM'd Wally my GUID, installed the pin lane penalty app, and setup discord and joined the team.  Still waiting on the kunos assetto forum to send me the activation email so I can download the helicorsa app.  I have a thrusmaster t300 with the ferrari alcantra wheel and the t3pa pedals.

Haven't done a lot of online racing so fairly new to figuring out how it all works and such, hence would be keen to get involved in the thursday night sessions until I figure out what I am doing a bit more.  I like a clean race and am very cautious in the first couple of turns.  He said I should get in contact with Phil.8 for the details of the thursday night sessions?  Anything special I have to do other than find the server and join in?

Cheers, look forward to it.
Scott

Hi All.

Had AC for some time now, but not really raced in it, did race some league stuff a long time ago, RF2, but only briefly as I needed to get my rig setup in a family friendly way (if there is such a thing..), thats all sorted now, so willl have a browse around and see if i can get it all figured out here.

Sydney-Sider (Holsworthy area) good for whatever is goin on on weekdays after 7 or weekends.

Hi TRCB, welcome. We have races on Tuesday and Thursday nights. I run the Tuesday races, where we're just about to start a Formula Ford season. You can also check out the Thursday sub-forum. Let me know if you want to join the Tuesday night races, and I'll get you set up.

Yep, there's never much info on Discord. The info's always here in the forums. Discord is just for chat on race nights.

All good, got it an managed to hop on the server.

Just setting up pushtotalk etc , had helicorsa already, and just installed the pitlaneapp too. Might sit out on this one tonight as its zero hour notice on a kart (never driven one on AC?!), unless its a casual thing and you dont mind me being all over the show.

I will jump in here for those that don't know me. I was the guy who looped it at turn 4 lap 1 race 3 at PI last tuesday. Sorry. It was my intention to keep you all double staggered until further around the lap ha. P.S I hate reverse grid, I usually just move over ha.

I joined xgn in 03/04 jumping on with an old Black Hawk Down crew who were a good fun squad and played competitive multiplayer. Around 2004 or 2005 myself and Ayerton decided to check out Live for Speed. We started racing for fun with the people from A.R.S.E forum and with some gents here named PK and Basha who ran an I.T shop off one of the navy bases in Vic. We started getting more heavily involved with LFS and the now old GT Legends. Monday Night Racing was born thanks to the efforts of some like minded people and we regularly had some healthy rivalry with the 7 or so Australian based LFS teams. Pretty sure there was a Bird called YSU who seems to run the place now.
Not sure what happened to PK and Basha, I disappeared into the wild, had a brief period to play ac in 2015/16 until I got moved away again and now I am back to race and learn from others about setting up the car.
I am former military, studying a diploma of aviation and hoping to do a engineering degree after that depending on work location/s.

Bird (Ysu) still lurks around somewhere in the background. He raced for a while recently, but gave it up a few years back. You might also remember 9metal-x, who is now Simone.

I certainly do remember 9metal. It seems so long ago lol. I miss Diggazz. He had a soothing voice in the middle of a joint ops crisis. And my medic Ayerton, who I can't even find anymore.

Hi Guys, there seem to be a few names from the old days. I am currently building a new rig and looking forward to getting back into sim racing. It will probably be a few months before i'm up and running, waiting for the asetek wheel base to arrive :)

I started way back in GT Legends and HistorX, so i'm looking forward to discovering what the best mods and tracks for AC are, and then relearning how to drive and how to use AC.

Hope to see you out on the track sooner rather than later..

Hi All,
New to the forums/XGN, but not new to Sim Racing.  I used to do the old time GPL back in the day, and really loved the lower classes like the 1.5 litre 66 mod, and later I moved to rFactor where I helped get the NZ tracks Teretonga, Timaru (Levels) and Ruapuna created, which involved getting the track blueprints, taking trips to the tracks and walking with a camera (no decent cameras on phones back then). I had also raced in the NZ classic car club when I was around 20, and knew those 3 tracks from racing on them.  I stopped sim racing then moved to Aus in 2011, got a wheel, but being an interstate truckie, was never home long enough to warrant setting the wheel up. We purchased a house and the first thing we did was built a mancave by converting the carport. I only intended on it being a place to display the model cars I paint/build and a workshop to work on the cars.  I've since added a race seat to the room to have the wheel permanently setup, and a Scalextric digital slot car track that sits on a 4.8m*2.4m table with a 25.6m lap length.
I only really got Assetto Corsa to be able to design the artwork for the models/slotcars so I can get the decals printed. That kicked off the sim racing bug, but I really wanted something that I related to, to drive, the Toyota Racing Series was high on my list, but in rF2, which I just dont really enjoy.
Thanks to striking up a rapport with Gzerod, we now have the FT-60 Tatuus in game, the FT-50 on the nearby horizon and some of the other Formula Regional series as well, to keep the Europeans happy. Im stoked to see how good a job G0D did on the car and physics. I havent done alot other than be a pest to g0d.
You can thank (or blame) g0d for me coming here, I was asked to cut some laps on the server on the weekend to test the FT-60. I'm still surprised my 11 year old Fanatec Porsche GT3RS wheel still works, though the shifter doesnt. Anyways, thanks for having me along. I'll try joining in some fun races when I am able to.
