S20R2: Oulton Park Race Chat
« on: December 26, 2017, 10:54:58 PM »
Jan 2: Oulton Park - International - No Chicane (3 x 12 laps)

Weather is about 20 degrees, with a moderate wind.

I've stretched the restrictor damage out a bit - i.e. you have to be going faster now on impact to get the max 10% restrictor.

ok don't hit the fence coming out of one of the last 2 turns before pit straight.. hit it and went straight into a hole..race over, instead of bouncing off the fence.

Yes, I hit that once too. On the left of the track.

The key "make or break" corner seems to be the right hander at the end of the back straight. You can burn up a lot of negative delta right there if you don't hit it right and carry enough speed  the hill.

Lap times are close on the practice server. The top 7 lap times are within 0.5 seconds. I'm only 0.2 slower then grat  8)

Some very tricky corners on this track, easy to make a mess of it and lose heaps of time

Practicing before the night before the race? So that's how it's done  ;D

Can’t say I’m a fan of this track. Too many blind double corners on it. The second last corner (double corner) I can’t find anything I can use as a braking/turning marker at all. Seems more a matter of luck then anything else, maybe that’s just me though.

I kind of use the track geometry itself, like the radius of the corner, to find a turn in point (if that makes sense). That's actually how I find turn in and braking points for most tracks, really. I tend not to really use trackside braking markers, which may or may not be a great idea.

If there's no trackside markers, ie. a tree, marshall point, etc. I have used the track groove itself (it normally darkens at the braking point).
The obvious issue with this is if you follow another car, you have no marker anymore. :-X

This is something that happens more with modded tracks. Some are as good as Kunos's ones, but others lack a little bit in details, and so you have fewer reference points.

I am finding it difficult also, every second lap is an off still for me

I don't think it has brake markers in real life . . . its not the mod.
