Title: Assetto Corsa server
Post by: Bird on May 10, 2014, 09:51:29 PM
Gents, and mostly Wally (I think Wally is running the AC server at the moment, correct?)

I'm wondering where is it and what are the parameters.

There maybe a cost-effective way to manage this - altho the current solution maybe superior, dunno.

If need be, I can set up a race server very quickly - I've figured out how to do it on Amazon AWS (cloud), after pixelboy on the arse forums gave me a few tips.  That's a very cost-effective way to run a server occasionally.
The reason it's cost effective and great - maybe it's not obvious - is that it can be started when it's needed, and stopped afterwards.

Costs around 50c/hr for a mid-sized one - but it's not good to have it on 24/7, that'd be a bit hefty.

So a race meeting can be had for a couple of bucks.   And it can be scaled to requirements (processing power, ram, etc...)

Hi, as I said in the other thread, I'm using the netKar server, which is free.  Hard to beat the price. We can see how it stacks up capacity wise, although I've read the server is quite CPU efficient. You can run multiple servers on the one box. The connection is optic fibre.

Ok that sounds great.  Can we appoint more admins, though?  I mean you're often around, but if/when you're not it'd be good if someone (or two) else could set it up or kick it into life if needed be.

I haven't spoken to the netKar guys yet.  I assume we'll see this current season to an end and then roll Tuesday nights over to AC. Bird, If you want to admin Tuesdays on the same server, that's fine by me.

I'm not sure if I can make it every time, so I'd rather be a helper only.

hey, Wally, try this in the AC server:

Is the CPU running high during booking as well? That is surprising. If it is running high during races only, try adding a bit of sleep time.. add:
SLEEP_TIME=1

in the server_cfg.ini

Thanks, I've seen that and already done that. It works, too.

Hola Wally,

have you been applying the updates to your Windows Server?
Looking through the list, there doesn't appear a possibility it may be exploited, but thought I would see your policy and success.

Exploited? I only update it when I see the timestamp's changed on my PC after an AC update.

Oh. Dunno. I haven't done anything.

No ports open = no risk.  Not much reason to update....
Worst case someone gets in via AC or RDP, and they crash it or somesuch.
They can't do much; you can't even send emails from within Amazon just like that.

But if you want to be sure, disable the RDP rule temporarily from the security rules. Or lock it to your IP range.
If you disable it, you'll have to re-enable it every time you want to manage something.

Yep I thought it was low risk.
Thanks.

Title: Creating the AC results
Post by: Bruce on September 05, 2014, 04:02:55 PM
Hola Wally, having trouble exporting the HTML from your app:

although the file entry is '2014-09-04 09:43:21.84625 +0000 GMT' it attempts to create a file name with '/' in them?
Code: [Select]
an exception is dumped when saving the HTML output.

************** Exception Text **************
System.InvalidOperationException: File croft_2007  9/4/2014 is not a valid file name

any I ideas? I will attack this tonight once I get home.
Cheers,
Bruce
sorry for the bug reports here. :)

I'm fixing this... but for now, if you click the Export button, just remove the "/" characters from the filename (they come from the date).

I'm trying to copy the dedicated server files over to my remote desktop, but it keeps crashing and dropping the connection, seems like it can't such a large (20mb or so) transfer....

Anyone have any issues? Other wise I'm not going to bother because I've been fart arsing and googling for the afternoon and its all the same fixes that don't work for me.

Sorry  k i only spotted this just now...
Rename your ".exe" server file to ".exex" fir the transfer you may needto do yhe same for the bat files.
The server closes the connection on "those" files...

Same issue with both techniques.

Cannot copy Assetto Corsa Dedicated Server: the I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.

Or I get another error about connection lost but it pops up and goes too quick to fully read it.

Tried it on another PC and get the same issue :/ Oh well...

Sounds like a local problem.  I certainly never had that one when uploading files.  As a last resort, you can try and install an ftp server and use that for file transfers.  You'll have to open a few more ports, that's all.

Use a "dropbox" or google drive account.
drop in on your local puter
open on the server

Worked a treat, will continue to crack on.

Cheers!

Unfortunately I keep getting a invalid port number. Have completed everything exactly in the video to no avail.

Sorry kromozone...
only just noticed this.

I am assuming you have an AWS instance...

create a "Security Group" with the inbound ports set.
I have multiple to allow for multiple instances of AC to run on the E2C machine

TCP rule 9600 - 9605
TCP rule 8081 - 8086
UDP rule 9600 - 9605

these will implemented immediately on your E2C instance.
