The 2004 Spanish Grand Prix (formally the XLVI Gran Premio Marlboro de EspaƱa) was a Formula One motor race held on 9 May 2004 at the Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain. It was the fifth round of the 2004 Formula One season. The 66-lap race was won by Michael Schumacher for the Ferrari team. His teammate Rubens Barrichello finished second with Jarno Trulli third in a Renault car.
2 X 16 lap races at Barcelona Moto in the Ferrari F2004.
The car is blisteringly fast, the fastest car in AC in fact, but easy to drive. The car has TC, but no ABS or DRS.
100% grip, 0% damage, to make life easier.
-
Awesome!!! Would love to do that :-)
Got a steering wheel, but no motor, damn...send it off for an upgrade today :'(
Probably 2 weeks no sim racing...
-
You just want to force me to drive a Ferrari, hey Wally. >:(
About time we had another "race car" race.
:P 8) ;D

That's a bugger. You'll be good to go for the start of the next season.

It wasn't me... it was the Italians that made AC.
Yeah, I thought I'd give the open wheel boys their fix :)
It's surprisingly easy to drive - or maybe I was pushing nowhere near the edge.

Feb 13 Wally?

Feb 13 Wally?
Thanks, fixed. I was wondering if this race would get your attention ;)

Cheers Wally, you know there's nothing I enjoy more than driving good cars at an average (or below) pace. :)

Good, means I can get some revenge on Grat without damaging my car. I'm coming to get you GRAT!! :P
(PS: Can you slow down a bit? Revenge is a bit difficult if you half a lap ahead)

Practice server's up - get some lap times in.

Checksum mismatch :(
Note: I can join the ROOZ server that has the same track/car combo without issue.
Edit: ROOZ has Barcelona - GP, XGN has Barcelona - Moto. What the hell is Moto?

It's just one of AC's standard track variations. You should have it.
I think I fixed it. Please try again (AC has a bug where the models files for the OSRW pit mod are checked, whether we're using the OSRW pit mod or not, and if you don't have the pit mod, you get a checksum error. So I deleted the model files).
-
Is OK now - you did fix it.
-
Does anyone have a setup for this track or could give me an idea of what wings should be at for a starting point
-
Hey Phil, this is a setup I downloaded from The Setup Market (the site appears to be down right now), it feels pretty stable and probably a good starting point for your setup making magicness.
-
Cheers Rob, will give it a go tonight
-
Very keen for open wheelers. Better get practicing I suppose.
-
Wally: I fear I may have to miss this one. Went climbing all weekend and cannot drive tonight either, so I would have not touched this car before the race... and it sounds like the kind of car with which I would make a mess of the whole pack without a bit of training.
A shame, really, because I really wanted to race in it with you guys in VR. It must be amazing...
That said, if I find 30 mins or so tomorrow afternoon, you'll see me at the usual time ;)
-
Climbing? Rock climbing? It made you sore?
Hats off to the guys putting in the top times so far... Kcender87, Phil.8, Mael... It takes some guts to find those extra seconds.
-
I've got Luca Badoers car. :'( :'(

Very sloppy my laps still, never driven this until the other night ,
here is my setup if anyone wants it, I suspect I have bad gearing and maybe not enough downforce looking at the top speeds, but it feels ok to me with getting the power down early, but not happy with turn in yet, really need a lot more laps to get setup better, changes seem to make a big difference in this and very easy to make worse :)

Can someone let kcender know its only a fun run....... poor guys already done 182 laps in practice! ;D ;D ;D
-
Climbing? Rock climbing? It made you sore?
yes, rock. A little sore here and there, but nothing big. Quite fun, though.

I used to do a little bit of rock climbing and really enjoyed it. On real rocks. None of this mamby pamby artificial stuff.

I have a problem :( Practice makes perfect.....ly sure I learn to make the same mistake consistently lap after lap :P

Then you certainly need more practice.
I'm much more proficient than you at making mistakes. :P

Rock is much funnier---it was almost my first time last weekend---but you need a lot of time, skills, money, and decent weather. Pretty hard to do it once a week or so. The gym is something you can do on a Wednesday night. It's a bit like racing and sim-racing, I guess. Just a little easier on the money.

i'm getting checksum error, sorry

I see AB156 is as well.
(I'm in but I have the OSRW mod ;) )
You might have to delete the mod as you did on the practice server, Wally.
-
I'm getting mismatch errors too

I have a version of OSRW mod installed, I can see the files. But yeah, no go on the main server but banging around on the practice server without issue.
-
I restarted the server - it was that models thing again.
-
That thing is proper fun especially in VR with an arm breaking wheel - battles in both race 1 and 2 were great, looking out the side or seeing the car dancing in the mirrors with the sounds while trying to keep it on the track is whats its all about - also, I have left a mildy disgusting 5mm deep puddle of batty sweat in the crease of the seat
How anyone drove those for 2 hours and managed to climb out and give an interview is beyond me :S
-
I reckon vr would be best in single seater ?

http://xgnassettocorsa.blogspot.com/2018/02/ferrari-f2004-at-barcelona-race-2.html
Congratulations to Kcender87 on the two race wins.
I did really well in race 1, coming 3rd after other people's accidents and track cutting penalties, also managing to put in the most consistent lap times.
Race 2 was a bit more eventful, with a few accidents here and there and some brain-fade spins on kerbs, but it was still immense fun. I was eventually in a nice groove, just listening to the screaming V10.
A season with no damage, and tyre wear tweaked so that you could just manage to get away without a pit stop with some tyre conservation, or opt for a pit stop with a short stint on softs, would be a lot of fun.

100% sit nice n low its great in a cabin but far better somehow in single seaters and open cockpits

+1 for season

Race 1: Apologies to Freezer for punting him on lap 1.
After that I had some great racing with Shayne and Freezer. Don't know where all the cut tracks came from. I don't think I actually cut track once ....
Race 2: Qualified 2nd ;D
Got away OK but Phil.8 got past, then Kcender & Phil.8 were just too fast. Was going nicely in 3rd until the rear stepped out coming onto the straight and I crashed. Apologies to ab156 who was behind me and couldn't avoid my carnage. I ended up facing the wrong way and had to do a 3 point turn in the middle of the straight :o
Pressed on but even though damage was off my times were about 1.5 secs down. Again, don't know where the cut tracks came from.
Fun night ;D ;D
I like F1 cars.

Would love a season, but I am definitely against the no-damage idea. F1 is a no contact sport. ;)

Great to hear it was fun...such bad luck I couldn't join...love this car. Gotta try it at Bathurst ;-)
I monitored the server lap times before. For sure that Andy would have been a challenge for kcender.
A season in this guy would be fantastic.

For the pros, maybe. For us mere mortals there are plenty of big, potentially race wrecking impacts with other cars and barriers. I know from experience that it would be too frustrating to cop race wrecking damage in these fast, fragile cars.

I really struggled last night, just seeing.
After about 5-7 laps, all the 'jiggling'had me cross-eyed.
Maybe I just need new glasses, as I did find myself leaning my head back to look through the reading part of my multi-focals.
Just a bad night. :(
-
you are doing well to race with multi-focals.
The eye person I see is also a sports doctor person and does some car drivers and looks after the Tassie cricket team, when I hit 45 and the eyes started to need glasses he recommended some lenses just for being close to a computer screen.

And in these cars, you sure do need to see, and fast.
I have glasses just for computer screen distance.

I had fun for a while, but after thinking I was doing alright considering I haven't had a drive since October, I fell apart and everything went to shit. :)
Still had a bit of fun, so thanks for the run.
Cheers

I loved to be in the open wheelers again but the head shake was killing me and just couldn't focus. Don't seem to have the shake at A1 Ring.
Had a wierd sort of compromise night with the cars where I couldn't get a good setup for the tyres. Mediums went off about lap 9 and Hards took 7 laps to start working. Lots of spins for me but such a satisfying feeling to get a clean lap in. Track cuts were an issue here as I seemed to be getting them even with 2 wheels still on the track. Anyway, I had a blast.
What about a compromise season of the the forumla abarth or something like that. I'd love an F1 season at tracks like instanbul, magny Cours and the like with a few tight tracks thrown in for variety but an open wheel sesaon in anything would suit me fine

You can turn the head shake off or down in the AC launcher, can't you?
A F2004 season is definitely on the cards, I reckon. People were already able to drive and race well in this one practice race. As someone mentioned, lack of KERS and DRS means speeds are more consistent and predictable, so it's easier to race close.
The Formula Abarth is a relatively boring car, but yes it's available as a compromise open wheeler as well. It's a long time since we've raced it.
-
I still like the RSR Formula 3 (although it's a mod).
You mentioned once you thought it was boring to drive Wally, but I don't think you were pushing enough. 8)
Easy to drive, hard to drive fast.

I am still dreaming of a season with those Porsche short tail racing cars... ;)
