Thought it was my MB giving trouble but fixed it, so bought a 3070 today and will see how my existing setup works with that.
If it doesn't, will get the rest later.

Later: Installed it and on the in-game benchmark test, went from 134fps to 157 fps but that was with the old gpu on medium settings but the 3070 on max settings, so think I will leave the mb and cpu upgrade for later.
Noice, which model did you get?

How does it go GW? I'm tossing up whether to go a 3070 or wait for more stock to arrive and get a 3080. Reason being I've just upgraded my 10 year ord old 21inch Dell's (5760x1080) to Asus ROG 27inch but now the old RTX970 is struggling with much more than 80fps at 7680x1440. I'm sure there is a way to down grade the screens back to HD but I'm not sure I want to as it's very pretty

Hard to tell Brad as the rest of my pc is getting on, an i7-3770K @3.g GHz, mb is 1151 pin and I think its about 8yrs old. I am using 3 Dell 27 in monitors at 5760 x 1080, but the 3070's doing a great job, just not sure how much better the 3080 would be.
Tell ya wot, buy the 3080, get it shipped to my place and I can compare them for ya  ;)

yeah, nah......I'm just in the early stages of getting my new machine running and with old the settings on my GTX970  I was getting 80fps on 5760x1080 and on my first with the GTX3080 test i got 218fps ave....I then turned E V E R T H I N G up to 11 and got 175fps on 7680x1440, so i think that is a good improvement...just need to sort out my simucube issues and then ill be back on track and hopefully a little bit quicker lol !

What refresh rate are your monitors? Just remember any fps higher than the refresh rate aren't even rendered so not point going for max FPS if you can't use em  ;) In regular AC however even maxed out I'm over 200fps; I just know they're being thrown away on my cheapy 60hz monitors. ACC totally maxed out is around 70-80fps so that's pretty good for me.

Yep, on my 60 Hz monitors, I've always just capped FPS at 60. No point the GPU rendering frames it can't display.

There's some minor benefits in input lag from the higher frames, check out some of the videos from battlenonsense on yootoob, it might be worth while trying out fast sync in the nvidia control panel with those big frame rates and no cap since vsync is introduces too much lag.
From memory, use fastsync when super high frames above the monitors refresh. Frame cap when frame rate just above the refresh rate.

I've just got a set of three Asus ROG XG279Q  which are 144hz, but boosted can go up to 170hz but I'm yet to even scratch the surface of their capabilities.

Oooh very nice, should be so smoooooth. My sim monitors are wasted on my 3090, but for other gaming I use a 43" 4k 120hz monitor and that pushes it pretty hard. You were lucky to get a 3080 they're so hard to get at the moment!

Yeah i've always used fast sync I don't cap my FPS. With fast sync the GPU still renders the frames, it just throws them away. Always found it better than v-sync or frame capping

Intel 10700, I've had a couple of bad runs with AMD stuff in the past, I'll wait a bit more before I dare change.
