S15R5: Red Bull Ring Race Chat

2 x 19 laps at Red Bull Ring.

You will need the OSRW PIT MOD if you don't already have it. Unzip the download into your Steam assettocorsa folder.

Penalty Ballast (60kg)
RussG

Handicap (Success) Ballast
Because the pit stop delay isn't working reliably all the time, I'm going to switch to a cumulative success ballast, similar to how the pit stop hold accumulates, based on the previous overall round results as follows:

Round Results:
1st = +45 kg
2nd = +30 kg
3rd = +15 kg
4th = -15 kg
5th = -30 kg
6th and lower = -45 kg

So success ballast (for both races of this round, based on the overall round results at Spa), is as follows:
1. Kcender87, 45kg (he wasn't at Spa, but if he was, he would have probably won the round)
2. Phil.8, 30 kg
3. Diehard, 15 kg

@Wally: have you thought about grid penalties instead of ballast (you know I am not a fan of ballast since the FR3.5 season ;))?

Something like this:

1st = +3 positions
2nd = +2 positions
3rd = +1 position
4th = -1 position
5th = -2 positions
6th and lower = -3 positions

It seems simple enough and avoids the issue of having to set up the car differently at every single race.

Not a fan of ballast either. Maybe those with issues with the app could try a full reinstall of the app and reapply the wally patch? I've had no issues at all with it.

Did that already when---during the week---the app did not work on the practice server. Unfortunately the problem seems to be a bit deeper than that.

Or just take the time that would be used as a pit handicap and deduct it from the qually time? Or is thos just making more dev work for you wally ;)

From the race time, you mean? That's a bit artificial then. The point of handicaps and ballast is to put the front runners back into the field so they have to work a bit harder (and probably have more fun in the process!).

I am pretty sure he meant from the quali time. So it is similar to my idea, but a little more complicated. Instead of adding grid positions, you add time to your best quali lap(s).

I still think the grid penalty would be the easiest to implement (though I know nothing of the code implementation issue) and an elegant solution that does not require spending a day to redo the setup every week.

Yeah i meant qually time but no idea how hard for you to implement. Say i did a 2:25, add my 6 second handicap to that making it a 2:31 and place me on the grid based on that time.

Well, maybe I would scale down those 6 seconds.... 6 seconds in quali is not 6 seconds in race...

It was just an example :)

We know he's fast. I didn't want him to get off scot free because he missed a round.

Or maybe simplify it by banning pitconfig and having a counter appear onscreen. Driver is not allowed to select pit options until counter shows 0?
