Hello guys!
My pc is a 2008 system,7 years old,but I still use it ,it runs everything I need to be run,i am not a pc enthusiast ,one of those who wants upgrade every week searching that lost one more frame rate. ::)
My question is:Should I wait for the new 1151 socket or just get a 9 series motherboard coupled with i5 4690 and maybe just put a broadwell cpu down the road when they will be available? I think in this way I will be able to invest more money in a high end graphic card............. :-[There is 7 years of my life in this pc and I am reclutant to get a new one but it is time to say goodbye to" Adrenaline",,,..his name...lol :o

I'd go with the older socket (tried & tested!) and a decent, but not over-the-top cpu (a good i5). If the new socket has any teething problems, you will buy into it by going for the latest tech. It'll then force you to change system parts fairly soon, again.
The gfx card is the crucial bit, the CPU power you get from an average i5 is more than enough for casual gaming.

Thank you Bird, that`s what I will do,,,ye mate thx!!

Nvidia 970 seems to be all the go now for a graphics card. Should last you for a while.
-
Altho I've seen good brand 980 gtx's for $550 US or so ...just sayin' :)
Still the 970 is unbeatable for a price/performance ratio in that higher region
-
Actually; what screen setup are you planning on running? If it's just one 'regular' HD screen, you're good with a 970. And if you buy the MSI one it's even overclockable a bit :)
-
Thx guys, yes is going to be a regular HD screen, and I am a fan of the gigabyte cards I think they are very quiet, and reliable i am excited about the imminent built ahahahaaa. I put my eyes on the maximus ranger Asus motherboard ........still.......I fell sad to depart from my pc,my little "Adrenaline"...ciaoooooooo!!!! :-*

Any of you people using the SSD drive ?Can someone pointing me a decent 500 gb SSD drive?....thx guys
-
Hell yes.
In order of quality, the ones you should consider are these brands - I'd not bother with the rest, it's just not worth buying a questionable quality system drive.
- Intel
- Samsung
- Crucial
They're here:
http://search.pccasegear.com/search#?p=Q&lbc=pccasegear&uid=170663902&ts=ajax&w=SSD&isort=price%20rev&method=and&view=list&af=brand:intel%20brand:crucial%20brand:samsung%20category:harddrivesssds
(just disregard the mSata ones, they're for laptops)
The Crucial can come in at a very decent price, around 50c/GB. Try to get the m550 or m500 - altho I'm running older models and they're all good, too, I think the MX100 isn't too bad either, but I'd lie if I said I'm up to date on that one. (I'm using old M4s in two computers, some are couple of years old now)
fyi, this is the way it looks when it comes at a very good price for a 550: eg https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/177925
You can't buy it that cheap locally, sadly.
And add to it; a 2TB SSHD for a data drive, it's still much quicker than an old HDD, and it's far cheaper than an SSD

Do replace all your drives, old drives can cause misc problems.
IMPORTANT: when installing the OS onto your new SSD DO NOT put ANY other drives in!
If you do that, windows 7 will automatically put some crap on it that'll prevent you running the system w/o the 2nd drive in. (dunno about win 8, but better be safe)
-
Ok thank you Istvan, much appreciated.Yes I will use only one drive(SSD) at first ,and I would probably put a HDD later, just for files storage.
thx ;)

oh just came in - a relevant sale on the samsung 850 pro - altho I've no idea how good the seller is, never heard of them

Sorry to hi-jack your thread but is a Z97 MoBo a safe bet or is it obscure?
(I don't know squat about MB's and sockets and what-not :-[)

I have a Z97-A, for what it's worth.

I just ask because I looked to upgrade my CPU but I can't find any that suit my MoBo, I just don't want to get stung again with unupgradable hardware. :o

It's quite common, if you don't upgrade frequently, to have to get a new mobo and CPU together. They are forever changing the CPU socket design, probably in a cushy deal with the mobo manufacturers to keep us having to buy both.
-
I was just about to say that.
But also; as new technologies emerge, new connectors, new memories, if you don't upgrade every year or maybe 2 years at most, it's guaranteed that you need to go for the whole lot.

Hey Simone, if you give me the budget that you have I can get you the best Parts for the Price, I am enthusiast and know quite a lot about building and purchasing parts, PM a budget

Umm, the GTX 970 has a 3.5GB VRAM Issue, I don't know if they are going to fix this but your best bet is to go with a R9 290/280x if you want something of the same price that has equal/more power
-
From what I read they just oversold the gtx 970 specs a bit...I've had no issues and they use bugger all power compared to the 290 etc which are really hungry I understand.
-
The issue *can* arise if you try to a single 970 in very high resolutions, or play games that access the last half gig. This isn't a big concern, usually, and I think they've already released beta drivers that restrict the memory.
The other spec "mistakes" are just incorrect information, the card works as it works.
I wouldn't worry about it too much (as I don't, using 2x970 myself).
I still would not change to the crappy Ati drivers :D
Edit:
altho even very-high definitions don't seem to trigger this problem. Or this is now on a safe driver.

A 970 is a very good value card, lawsuit or not.

Hey benana thx but the pc is already up and running even though i never use it cause i am at work a lot lately, but it is very very nice, especially the SSD drive, they are expensive but they are the real upgrade for any pc.
Also since the new built i have decided to give explorer the flick and get to use chrome instead ,,,i love it !!
