I had a quick look at the track and the start spots seem fine. Perhaps those that ended up in the same spot had slightly different versions of the track and as a guess the objects defining start positions are not checksummed.

Could be right.
Some had different sector times.

The update log on RD says start positions fixed in v1.2 so some people must have had old version. Perhaps those with noses buried in tarmac :D

AC needs mod version control so this cannot happen.
