Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / S8R6: Spa Post Race
« on: September 15, 2015, 09:42:36 PM »
Disappointing result for me tonight after what was looking very promising.
Qualified 7th in the GTC and got a ripper start to grab two spots by turn one.
From there I was able to gradually chase down Jeremy and Mathew and get by seeing me up into 3rd and now inching my way up to second spot.
Then unfortunately I had a spin at Eau Rouge.  I did the full 360 glancing the wall and kept going having only dropped one spot.
The car however was a bit slower after that and I eventually dropped 3 spots and was back in 7th.
Then on lap 9 I see "Connection Lost" . . . %^&#
So the bonus of triple points and a decent result went begging.... (:
Anyhow . . thanks once again to Wally for the season and well done to all that competed, some good close racing was had!

Hardware & Reviews / Windows 10 Gaming
« on: July 31, 2015, 12:40:45 PM »
Windows 10 free upgrade is now out and I just finished reading a review in the August APC magazine which in reference to gaming talks of its DX12 support.  It talks of a few 'significant' improvements.
First is a much lower-level of code access to GPU silicon for higher performance gaming.
Early Intel testing suggests reduced CPU power consumption by greater than 50% on a SurfacePro3 but the most impressive addition is the ability to combine discrete and integrated GPU's into live gaming.  "Multiadapter" brings your CPU's integrated graphics engine back into service alongside your GeForce or Radeon card.  Your card will handle the main frame rendering with the integrated adding post processing effects.
Results so far indicate a 10% boost in game frame rates from your existing hardware. (as long as you have a Geforce 600 series/Radeon HD7000 series or newer card).
Any one taken the leap yet to upgrade?

Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Season 8
« on: July 07, 2015, 12:10:48 PM »
So with only 2 races to go it might be time to mention Season 8 and what we will be racing.
I'll go first and propose a single make low powered car series . . . . a nice change from the hyper cars.

Hardware & Reviews / Ultra Wide Monitors
« on: May 24, 2015, 10:07:53 PM »
Any one using one of the new ultra wide 34inch 3440 x 1440 IPS monitors for racing?
I went shopping for 3 screens and then came across these that hover around the $1000 mark.

Pros; wide, no bezels, not to resource hungry, virtual screen splits for work use.
Cons: Price, not quite as wide as triples.
Questions: Will AC support it properly?  Does it give sufficient side view like triples.

Mod Tracks / REAL TRACK - Krajiska Zmija Hill Climb
« on: April 27, 2015, 08:17:02 PM »
Now here is something different.  It looks well put together and includes both a tarmac and dirt version.
The dirt certainly tests your car control and your right foot steering.

Apps / Real Head Motion
« on: January 02, 2015, 01:56:27 PM »
Heard Bacchulum mention this after the Nissan race so had to have a look.

You have to do a bit of tweaking, mainly in the area of smoothing out the motion and in my case I kept it to a more subtle shift from left to right and increased the deadzone to stop small wheel movements from shifting your view.   I think it makes a good improvement as it allows you to look through the corner more and pick your line rather than just looking directly forward.
There are some Youtube links of guys drifting whilst looking almost completely out the side window.

Worth a look... although maybe not so much for the triple screen guys.

Assetto Corsa / 4K vs Triple Screen
« on: December 28, 2014, 06:07:05 PM »
I have been toying with the idea of three screens for some time but desk top real estate is a bit restricted.  Then there is is the cost of two extra screens and ensuring the GPU will run them.  I have ordered a GTX 970 4G gaming as an upgrade.

But, I am now looking at Samsung LU28D590DS/XY 28" Ultra HD LED Monitor 3840*2160 for $550 (well reviewed).  This will be bigger than my current 23inch and far greater image quality, but will also require a decent GPU.

Anyone already using a big 4K screen?
Pro's & Con's against triple setup?

Assetto Corsa / Graphics
« on: December 24, 2014, 11:39:40 PM »
Here is an interesting little mod that tweaks the graphics settings in AC.
http://www.virtualr.net/inanimate-carbon-mod-ac-released

It basically takes out some of the harshness of the graphic settings and for me gives a more realistic look.
Here are some screen shots from my PC.  Bear in mind it runs a modest graphics card with most of the AC settings set at mid range and then I have downsized these .jpg's as well.

Note:  When installing there are 4 files in System | CFG that you may want to back up before over writing in case you want to restore things, the rest are all additional files.

Apps / Leader Board with Blue Flags - Ferito Live Tracker
« on: November 20, 2014, 09:23:05 PM »
This app places a leader board that displays your laps (i.e.  2/6 ) and your time gap to those around you.
It also has a small blue flag that displays when a lapping car approaches you from behind, and in addition
all vehicles ahead of you in the race are displayed in blue within the leader board.

Notes
It did have a green flag also, but I replaced it with a transparent one.
You can adjust the font size and transparency in the Config folder.
