I think it might make life interesting to mandate a car swap at the halfway point of the season.
Is this post of yours affecting us?  ;)
I think so, but I'm still umming and aahing a bit. Let me know what you think of the idea. It could spice up the chase for the championship a bit, if someone dominates the first half of the season in one particular car, but then doesn't do as well in another car.
We just need a Citroen 2CV booked in for Bueller and it will be fine  ;)
I picked the Alfa...and that's only based on my practice offline before our fun run at the Nurburgring and I wouldn't mind keeping it for the entire season.
There's ACC GT3 on Monday and that will keep me busy enough.
However, guess there is a chance that changing cars mid season could mix up things a little bit...all depends on what cars the fast guys pick.
So I agree with your point, but still voted against it. It is a proper season though, so I think setting the rules before the season starts would be better.

So not the cleanest of laps in each car, with the Mercedes I had nice Bacchulum Works death wish set up saved from a previous tour here. The other cars were stock aside from ratios and tyre adjustments. So far fairly close times, each car with a favoured sector, although if Joe stopped looking at dildos he might come and put all green sectors in his favourite car...
Ok, your times make more sense to me  :)

Interesting times. The restricted beemer with the fastest 1st section time going up the hill...hmm...don't really get it...does that make sense? Going down the hill where I thought it's quite good the other ones are faster.

I'm sorry to hear about your breakup, but... more sim racing, right? It's always hard to balance the cars. There's so many variables. All you can really avoid is any one car being clearly way faster than the others. On balance, the Beemer was a tad too fast, but now I was able to set quite close lap times at RBR in each car.
Thanks. Yeah, more sim racing...that's the logical consequence  :)
I believe I can do the time I've done in the BMW in the Alfa as well...that's on the old restrictor settings.

Here a possible scenario:
Qualy result (P1-P4): BMW, Alfa, Alfa, Alfa (of course there can be a Merc in there somewhere or you can replace BMW with Merc...just simplifying in order to make a certain point)
Ranking at turn 1: Alfa, Alfa, Alfa, BMW
It will be a challenge gaining your positions back during the race in a car which is the trickiest to drive anyway and not significantly faster.

Just throwing my opinion in there...I'm fine with whatever restrictor settings we're doing. We can pick our car...so, no probs  :)

Looking at the lap times from Nurburgring, the cars are all pretty mixed up, which is what I'm looking for. There's no bunch of Alfas near the front, for example. So by the time you throw in different drivers and different tracks, I think the cars are balanced enough.
I was bored (split up with my missus recently) and thought, why not write a novel here on this thread  ;)
Seriously, I'm with you and believe the cars are close in performance. What I'm saying is, no one can judge my times without additional, detailed information about what I've done. You just don't know how much practice I've done offline in each car and only I know how clean my fastest lap was. So I thought I provide some info how these guys work with me driving them. Someone else with a different driving style may see this differently...I don't claim I'm right or what I'm saying is representative.
I've done only a few laps in the Merc. It's very stable over kerbs compared to the BMW...generally a bit easier to drive...maybe BMW's will be more often involved in incidents because of that...wouldn't surprise me anyway. However, I couldn't get close enough to the time I was aiming for and decided I'll go either for the BMW or the Alfa. It's fun sorting these things out.

Was fun racing last night. Quite a bit went wrong starting with a really average start and then this little nudge Mael received from me...sorry. Err...actually, I think it was entirely his fault braking a bit earlier than me  ;)
Not much happened to me, but he spun and it took some time to get back going again. I waited for him and then started the chase.
R2 was a complete mess. I think everything was ok when I first joined in the Alfa. However, not seeing any lap times in qualy I thought, get out and re-join and see what happens. There was hardly any time left and it takes some time to adjust to the Alfa anyway, so qualy was messed up.
I was looking forward chasing Bueller then and see how these two cars compare, but got suddenly thrown out...weird thing...never happened to me before.
Was late for the 2nd start and learned then that I didn't have enough fuel. Well, I was 1.5min behind the field anyway so I fixed this by going out again and re-joined making sure fuel is ok this time.
Dunno, guess I was maybe 3 or 4 laps behind and ended up right behind Bueller when getting out of the pits...was good having a bit of a race with him.
My best time is in the BMW, but that's the car I've done by far the most laps in, so it's not a fair comparison.
I think the restrictors level the performance of the cars when it comes to lap times quite well. It's tricky...qualifying first in the BMW or the Merc is hardly worth anything if you got an Alfa near you, as they get off the line so much better. Keeping up with an Alfa in a Merc or BMW is then probably ok...hmm, but overtaking to get your qualy position back is maybe pretty hard.
Can't really judge the Merc, but for me the BMW and the Alfa are on par re lap times...with a clear advantage for the Alfa at the starts...enjoy driving the BMW more...difficult decision  :)
2 or 3 restrictor percentage points more on the Alfa would make the decision even harder  ;)
Increasing the restrictor on the Alfa a tiny bit is what I would probably do if it was my decision. However, that's based on my driving style and just on this track...well, or possibly taking the Alfa out entirely, which would be a pity somehow. And these differences in the performance characteristics can produce close racing as well of course...and that's what we want I guess...many different ways to look at this.
However, should be a fun season...

..a lot of probably pretty smart people worked this out and decided going for it...only saying it works imo.

Passive aggressive much?
Also 'a lot' equals a committee and we all know how that horse turned out. ie. did it really work, has it ever really worked? I mean there was a shit tonne of sandbagging, lobbying and outright cheating to game the system and they changed it every other year so I can't say it ever worked.

I never understood lap time based penalty systems.
What did they try to achieve? I would think it's a championship where the winner is not determined 2, 3, 4 races before the end of the championship.
What makes you win a championship? Is it fast lap times or how you finish races?

You can obviously be the fastest in the race, but that doesn't mean you win...you can be taken out, engine failure, crash the car into a wall...all that can get you a zero point finish, but you've done the fastest lap...means zero points, last in the standings (if it's the first race), but a penalty slowing you down a week later.

Other extreme, a massive crash ending the race of the people on P1 to P5...a slower guy like me (on P6) comes along winning the race...that's luck for me...happens rarely that I win a race...50 extra kilos for the next race...yeah, in the end I'm still leading the championship in this example if it's the first race of the season.

You can extrapolate this concept, but it all ends up in the leader in the championship most likely driving the heaviest car...and he's likely the fastest as well.
Again, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we should do that. It's just that I struggle to understand lap time based penalty systems.

Of course I get the idea that the fastest guy has the best chances finishing a race first. However, getting someone some ballast even if his race went wrong is something I don't understand.

54

...AND the two races last night were won by an Opel and a Merc, and second race's fastest lap by a BMW.

Ballast per results. (avoid this)

I noticed the wins not matching fastest lap times. The differences in lap times seem to give a clear picture about performance...guess Mael's lap is rather an anomaly. Maybe the outcome of last night's races are a bit deceiving.
Ballast per result was done in real racing...a lot of probably pretty smart people worked this out and decided going for it. I don't want to sell it...only saying it works imo.

I may risk sounding ungrateful but i did not enjoy last night. The worst is the exterior/interior car sound imbalance which makes it near impossible to race in close packs.

Mod cars should add to AC. For example the 60's/70's British saloons provided by Seanus for the current Thursday season.

For early 90's European Touring cars Kunos has already provided us with three very good cars with sorted sound and physics. Those cars are well known and loved online and would attract more drivers. For good close racing pick one of those and add a bit of ballast and restrictor to Joe. I do not feel the cars we did last night would improve a season's racing.
Same thought occurred to me. Why not use the Kunos DTM cars? I know we've got at least the Merc and the BMW. You could add modded ones, but they would have to be made to match the Kunos ones in performance. Once you've picked a car you can adjust audio to suit the particular car.
Btw I followed the DTM around that time and I'm pretty sure they had a ballast system based on finishes in the races. I think a win got them some ballast. If you win then again, the same amount of ballast is added again...up to a max weight, but I can't remember details. That obviously contributed to close racing in this series.
I find that's a fair system as it should keep distortions in the championship to a minimum. However, it was on an individual basis, not like P1-P5 plus x amount of weight.

56
Great time in the M3, Mael. However, you spoiled it. I would have said the Mustang and the Audi need some additional weight to balance the field a bit.

Does anyone know what tire pressure we're aiming for with this mod? The numbers my tire pressure engineer app is giving me are possibly a bit off.
29 psi all round. ;)
Thanks mate...yeah, I'm way off...maybe that will make the BMW's rear end easier to control.

Good news Joe :) will be interesting to see how ACC runs with settings cranked up.

I set it to Ultra preset and probably averaged 80fps on my triples running 5860x1080. Some dips into the 60s and sometimes up nearer 100.
I question why it takes such an expensive card to run ACC with a quality level of graphics!
I find my 2080 is doing a pretty good job at 5760x1080...quite a few settings on high...looks great :) Sure the 3090 must be fantastic, but the 4080 will be a lot less expensive and probably faster.

Replay of the opening lap with epic shadows. It looks cool how the cars in front of you cast shadows. Gameplay is smoother than it looks in this video.

Forget the shadows, you missed my epic pass on Killa  ;D  That Porsche is magic in the first few corners.
Yeah...haha...good on you :)
It was great side-by-side action with Bueller. I then missed my braking marker and went off track...got back no drama, but then someone ran into me I think 3 times...until I finally ended up into a wall facing the opposite way...sweaty me thought, beer or continuing messing around here...that was easy  ;)
ACC's graphics are awesome.
