Gosford car museum
« on: October 30, 2016, 04:30:45 PM »

I've just been there, and I'd like to say, I was very impressed.

If you haven't see a LaFerrari, an Enzo, a Testarossa, or maybe a Lamborghini Countach or a Diablo in real life, or maybe interested in a 40's or 50's Rolls Royce Phantom, you should head over there.  I've even seen a DeTomaso Pantera, and an XJ220 as well :)
(funnily they had eastern block oldies, too, some familiar Skoda, Traband, Lada, Polski, Volga and even a couple of Tatra models were there)

The collection is huge.  They've hundreds upon hundreds of cars, including some that are for sale (like an R32 Skyline, a Ferrari 360, a couple of E-types...) at the back.

It's been something I meant to do for a while, but I wanted to go with a mate who just had a baby so it was just delayed and delayed...but now I'm thinking I should go back again, the 2 hours was barely enough to gawk myself out.
One negative is that it's very much like a museum, you can't go really up close and in some cases this means you can't easily see the car from all angles.  Also it'd be great to be able to open the bonnet of a few of them :)
Another negative is that it'd be good to see a bit more on some cars - often it's just a brand & model name.  Sometimes it's specs as well, and sometimes (the best) there's some history included.

Did you know they are all owned by one guy!
Made gazillions in europe then came back to Aus and started buying cars.  The ones out the back you can buy!

Yep, good info.  I was really eyeing a 430 that was at the back for a mere $160k....but my wife would kill me I know.  Plus it was yellow...

This place is like 5 mins from my house, so I'd always be planning on going but wasn't in a rush, but it recently got shut down due to a dispute with the ATO so I'll never get the chance... All their cars are being auctioned off next month.

Yeah I've heard the news, very disappointing.
The stupid ATO can't have them operate under dealership concessions, because they are open as a museum as well.
And now there'll be nothing for the ATO and nothing for us either.  Well done, dear beloved bureaucrats.

Btw; go to the auction at least, they've got some very nice cars, still, I'm sure.

Really bad timing, too, I've got no money to spend for a few months after our last car purchase & the kitchen reno. :/
