First impressions are very good.
I did a few Taatus@Monza races, and the AI was very professional.
I dive-bombed and they didn't just keep taking their line, they reacted and didn't turn in.
A few corners later they returned the favour, only cleaner and in more control than me. :-[

I have found a bug though:
In a 1000m drag race in the Taatus, I can get near perfect starts with my eyes closed. 8) ;D
Just dump the clutch when you hear the AI engage 1st. :P
(21.699 is my PB)

AI update via Facebook:

Quote
Aristotelis Vasilakos As you've probably have guessed by now, tomorrow update of Assetto Corsa will include the first taste of AI. In order to contain the hype and lower expectations, let's focus on the word "taste".

For this first AI update, we won't give you the complete grid AI enabled. There will only be some special events quick races, with some cars on some tracks that will give you a taste as I said of Ai races.
I know that everybody wants the full monty, but I'm also sure that you understand that we need to test the performance of the AI on various systems, check for bugs, improve it and so on. It is far easier for us to do so on some specific scenarios, than having to control the whole Assetto Corsa grid at once.

We're pretty satisfied with how AI is coming along, but we also want to make it better and that's exactly what we're going to do once the update is out. We will collect your impressions and reports and work our asses for the next update to make them even better and offer you as soon as possible the whole AI functionality. I'm pretty confident you're going to like what you will experience tomorrow and I'm sure you will be hungry for more. Tiny bit of patience and we will deliver, you know already that we are listening and working constantly on this.

As a side note, of course you're going to get a couple of new cars and some new upgrades too, plus a complete rework of our tyre model (yikes!)... it's subtle, nothing too drastic, but we think you'll like it even more.

Ok back to work to put the final touches on tomorrows update, thanks for listening
downloading now...

Even more realism.
The BMW drivers aren't as professional as the Taatus one's. :o ;D :P

Hey Guys, over at the AC Forums in their Modding Section, there is a Thread where you can d/l "DIY Custom Race Events". Haven't tried any yet, but it might be a chance to check out the AI of different cars and tracks while we are waiting for "official" races.

http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/post-diy-events-here.5372/#post-61787

I repeat, I haven't tried any yet so use at your own discretion.

EDIT 1:
I thought I should stop being a Wus and actually try one.

Loaded the BMW M3 E30 Group A at Imola. What a hoot. Great fun. I have also d/l some skins for the little Beemer and it makes it look even more impressive.

EDIT 2:
The AI only used the Default skins, however the Player can choose a Custom Skin.

I shortened the Race to 5 Laps, makes it a bit more challenging in Easy mode, I have no idea how I will go as the AI gets tougher.

I've tried a few custom AI races myself. Quite good fun, better than hotlapping. Is a bit of an fps hit, had to turn down reflections and shadows (and smoke, via INI files), but performance is still quite playable.

That's 'as designed', for the moment at least.
My guess is they're still working on jump start detection or penalty implementation.
