Assetto Corsa Competizione / Re: Is it worth getting or not
« on: November 14, 2018, 04:45:34 PM »
So far I see it as "just another sim" with less cars and tracks. I don't see the utter grandness of it all. So much hype over Graphics and sound but I don't see it.
I don't get excited by wet or night races as we have been doing that in rFatcor2 for years and "live" weather data injected into the server since 2015.
I would hope that ACC will polish up the Race Session management, have decent built in stuff for onscreen info during racing, manual pit speed limiting, replay management, etc, etc, etc. Assetto Corsa is absolutely brain dead when it comes to all these things and more. You can't even have a warmup session between Qually and Race in AC.
Even though so many things about AC get up my nose, I race in it to be in it with the group we have. If the group starts racing in ACC, I'll be there too.

my 2ยข worth.

I had a fun time chasing Freezer almost the whole race. He went on Softs and I went Mediums. It was like the invisible elastic band between us. The gap would grow a bit and shrink a bit but neither of us made any great impression on the other. As Freezer said, I made up time on the pit stops. Don't know how I made up any on the first stop as I stopped with less than a lap of fuel left and brimmed it up to 99L again. I went 99L, 99L, 73L. I don't know the actual refuel time, but I know that putting in 99L takes 40 secs longer than changing tires - so long pit stops.
After the second pit stop I surprised Freezer by being beside him as he came out of the pits and snuck past at the first hairpin. My joy was shortlived as he stayed close and got me at T1 after a great slipstream.
Then Able Archer wound up joining us and making it a 3 way battle which was interesting as he had the Merc power on the straights. Coming on to the banking I went to go around the outside of AA as he was really slow there, but I touched his right rear corner spinning him - sorry mate. I was surprised as I would have sworn I was missing him. A few laps later did the same move but got around OK, then in my rush to get the power down I spun up the rears and came back across into AA's path and we crashed - sorry again. My car smashed into the wall and broke suspension and aero. Thank god it was the last lap and I limped home without losing any places.

As others have said, I am pessimistic about the Short Tails chances of making an impression, but it's great to drive so we'll see how it pans out later in the season.

Only get 11 laps out of a full tank in the Short Tail ... either a 3 stopper or fuel saving and go even slower.

65
Short Tail for me please Wally.

Unfortunately, I will be away for the next 2 weeks ....

Have fun guys ...

Half a good night for me.

Didn't get the best out of qually, but started 5th. Pretty happy with that.

Race 1: Got away running in 4th due to Kcender having a bad start. After a few laps Kcender caught me and I figured I shouldn't fight too hard for the place. As Kc went past I still had a nice gap to Bacchulum but then Kc was so slow he backed me up into Bacchulum who then had a good run and slipstream out of the last turn and breezed past me down the straight. From then it was really tight stuff with most laps only separating Bacchulum and me by hundreths. Finished 6th which I was happy with.

Race 2: With the grid shuffle I started behind Keith and from the start I was stuck behind him. I was up the inside, up the outside but always having to pull out of the move to avoid a crash. I could see Bacchulum disappearing into the distance in front of us with this battle going on.
After some laps of this, Keith got it loose in the left right combination at the end of the lap while I had a smooth run through it. Somehow Keith managed to keep it on the track and in the right turn I had to steer left to avoid running into him. I clipped the wall which I thought was just a brush, but it completely wrecked the car with the wheel out by 90 degrees. Pitted to fix the car. Basically race over   :(

Bring on the next race ....

Got my fps up to 75 solo, using the resolution scaling set to 73. (1300 in a storm)
My old eyes couldn't tell the difference :o, so there's a permanent, new setting.
How do you display the fps?

Not a bad night racing over all. If any one has the first couple of laps on video I would like to see what I did.
Hi Able,
Not much you did wrong, but here are the replays  :)
You just need 7zip to unzip them ...

Q: Never got it quite right but managed 6th so not bad.

R1: Got a bit of a run down the inside of Mael to T4 but couldn't make it stick and came out slow, then watched 3 cars drive by. Settled in behind Wally.
About lap 3 Wally went off at T1. I kept on track, then saw Wally coming back on so I took to the sand on the inside of T2. I couldn't keep it tight enough to avoid a touch, which wasn't too bad, but then I couldn't pull it up for the next turn ... another 3 cars drive by  ::)
About lap 5 I came around the fast left hander before the hairpin and Jeremy was off track. He came back on and sat in the middle of the track so I tried to place myself around the outside of the hairpin. We touched, I went off, Jeremy spun, Jeremy disconnected ....
With a few laps to go, Wally and I were dragging down the straight, Wally slightly ahead, I thought I kept it tight on the inside but we touched and Wally had an off. Sorry Wally.
With 2 laps to go, realised I only had about 1.5 laps worth of fuel so had to back off massively and let Freezer and Wally past.
After all that was pretty happy with P9  ;D

R2: Started P12. At T4 AbleArcher and Simone had a bump which allowed me the chance to push up the outside of AbleArcher to T4 - my idea to make AA take a narrow line into T4 and I could do cross back to the inside, but AA kept moving across on me and pushed me off track. Not too bad, but as I was rejoining, Seanus tagged me (not his fault) sending me further off and I rejoined a distant last.
Gained some places with others misfortune as they went off  ;D Had some great racing with Rob until he made a mistake.
Eventually caught AbleArcher and had some great racing trying to pin a move on him, then he made a mistake and I was through  ;D Then I made a mistake and he was through  :(
Then AA had an off at the fast left hander before the hairpin so I tried to place myself on the outside of the hairpin. We never touched, but it was a bad place to be because I went off and watched 3 cars drive by  >:(

All in all, I had a great night  ;D ;D

Hey Phil,
we since found that that RaceDepartment link is undrivable, so whatever version you had is likely the one you want.
Just check that the link you have is the version of the track you want .....

Cheers

Well, it doesn't help watching this thing again. I was pissed off because, during the race I thought it was you, Russ, running into me at that sharp right hander before...and then just going off. The second incident was more difficult to judge. I trust Wally's judgement on this enough...so, yeah, what can I say...
In the end being run into twice there within a few laps spoiled it enough for me to hit the exit button.
Hi killa,
Yeah, we both got taken out at the sharp right hander.
I would probably call the one where we went off a racing incident. I just didn't like being handed the blame.

Let's all just try our best to avoid incidents in the first place and have some good racing   :)

FYI, the Porsche is the greatest car in all of AC. Just so you know.

Wally your soooo funny - you make me laff  ;D ;D ;D
