Title: S10R8: Barcelona GP Pre-Race Chat
Post by: Wally on March 08, 2016, 11:25:10 PM
Driver's Briefing

This is the final round, and the second of the enduros, same format as the round we did at Mugello.

The format is a single race of 34 laps (about 1 hr), after a qualifying session. 2.5x fuel, and 3x tyres.

There are TWO compulsory pit stops, where you can refuel, change tyres or repair. The pit window for the two CPS is laps 6 and 23. You can pit outside the pit window if you need to make repairs, or splash 'n dash, but you must do two pit stops in the pit window. DQ if you don't.

Earliest you can enter pit lane is at the end of lap 6. The latest you can pit is the end of lap 23.

The scoring is a little different in these format rounds: additional points (50 down to 1) are awarded for your position at the end of lap 14. So bear that in mind when you pit.

Weather: 18 and Clear

There is a chance I will not make this round, which is disappointing as it is the one I was looking forward to most.

I've ran a few laps and put my medium tyre and soft tyre setups on the server for the Audi.

Still not sure whether I'll be around Tuesday night or not.

Could you actually get a reasonable lap in with softs at 3x wear? I havent ran any laps yet but dont expect softs to survive an outlap let alone be quicker then mediums on the 2nd lap.

What's "MS Redistributable"? ???
If you're talking about ptracker and setup sharing, the download you need is this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=48145
Visual C++ Redistributable

You like a long setup name, don't you Guy? ???
Only problem is when sTracker shortens it, they're all named the same. :o
(so I took both)

I'm not sure whether to try hard tyres to get me to lap 14, to get the points that are on offer there. I tried that at Mugello, and it ended up being one of my worst rounds, points-wise. It might be better to stick with mediums and get a better lap time and hopefully a higher finishing position. Decisions, decisions.

My Mugello strategy worked well for me, so I'm sticking with that. :D

This is going to be a tough round for the Nissan.  It is rather outperformed here, it seems.  Something is wrong with this track grip-wise, too; the car wants to turn around, much more so than anywhere else.  And that's with an understeery setup.
Now, on a track with long corners, this is not a good combination.

I've found it's a bit better with some more TC, about 2.

Yep, definitely faster in the Audi with softs. Get down to about 95% at the end of the flying lap.  You have to nurse them on the out lap though.

The increase in temperature is certainly helping.

Hey guys, this race falls on my 31st birthday and I have just been told that we are going out for dinner, so I won't be able to make this one.

Thanks for the series Wally, unfortunately I still find many aspects of this game frustrating when compared to RF2. I will keep an eye out for one off events as I'm keen to see how they develop it especially alongside what I can only assume will be a doomed console release, but I'm not going to be buying any more content from Kunos.

Quite funny you had to throw in the rf2 comment, also a doomed console release whats the point of saying that lol.

Because it's the truth. I do find a lot of little frustrating things that add up to make a big difference to me. I also think that releasing the game on console is pointless and a waste of resources on behalf of Kunos and I don't plan on funding it any more.

Whats funny about it? I think they have misread the console landscape if they think people will drop Forza or Project Cars to play AC on their Xbone or PS4. I would never have purchased AC if I thought they were going to spend time and resources developing it for consoles when they haven't even finished the PC version of the game.

It's also important to note that I am not leaving the league due to anything other than me not liking the title. I think it's ran really well and from that stand point I would race here again in the future if AC gets better or if we were racing another title.

Answer your question did I marty? Lol

No worries, Chris, thanks for racing with us, and have a good birthday.

The console release makes sense from a business point of view. It will make them lots of money, and maybe fund AC2, who knows. I would prefer that they polish up some of the race elements on the PC first, but what I want won't necessarily be the same as their business goals.

KS have said that there are some improvements and optimisations that will find their way into the PC release.

Apparently we might be getting MP time progression in 1.5, which would be nice for a little more immersion, to drive on a track where the lighting conditions are changing.

I obviously don't share your optimism, but as an owner of the AC I hope you are right.

That's the kind of thing I want to hear! Hopefully the track temps will change too.

read this thread, Simone:
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/4a0asv/warning_windows_7_computers_are_being_reported_as/

You can revert back to win7/8, luckily.  But yeah, this is nasty what microsoft is doing lately.

It's strongly recommended to switch off the recommended updates, and only allow the critical ones - and only manually. Also; running one of the win10 switch-off scripts maybe a prudent step (although too late for you at this point, Simone)

Best of luck in any case!

p.s. if you have a legit windows, call them and pour out your heart to them.  They need to hear about it.  The way they push this garbage on people is not funny.  There must be something utterly nefarious about win10 - more than the already documented spying.  They really-really want everyone on it...

Keep reading.  They've actually put some of the anon back-reporting stuff into win7 updates.   The actual list to disable to get rid of all of it is quite long.  Attached is a bat file which disables all updates that are not welcome.  Look into it how long it is.

But first, reject the win10 update or revert it.

There are programs around that may go even deeper wrt removing the garbage. (one recommendation is in the reddit thread's op I've given you earlier)

Hi Guys
Is the practice server an accurate gauge of fuel use and tyre wear? Not sure where to look to find that info.
Thanks
Ben

yeah the praccy server should be exact same as race server for tyre wear and fuel x
Title: Re: S10R8: Barcelona GP Pre-Race Chat
Post by: Wally on March 14, 2016, 12:43:01 PM
I've just checked the practice server. It had the wrong fuel rate, 1.5x. It should be 2.5x, which I've fixed now.

If you've done any fuel calcs based on the prac server, multiply your fuel by 1.7. E.g. if you thought a stint needed 80l, make it 80 * 1.7 = 136.

Tyre rate was too low as well.

Ah, guys, I reckon the server laps has the 2nd and 3rd split reversed for a few people:
http://52.62.71.102:50041/lapstat?currservers=acserver

The most obvious example is Stan

Btw, blistering 1st split there, mate :)
I'd love to see how it's done!

What, only 1.2 secs up on GB in one sector alone!!
Seems perfectly legit!!
I don't recall finding any shortcuts... *shrugs

You had an good extra percent of grip....
I think you have simply found the optimal line & method through the first fiew corners very well - and that's what I'd like to see.
Unless the whole lap is mis-reported - seeing the other 2 sectors being topsy-turvy .

The wrong tyre rate is a bigger Noooooooooooooooo - you can calculate fuel after a few laps, but you can't do tyres w/o running the whole stint again. :(

I don't know how bad the tyre multipler was, but I'd really prefer leaving it at the "wrong" setting, otherwise all my testing is out on the window :(

Post by: Wally on March 14, 2016, 05:37:30 PM
Sorry, my mistake in setting up the server. I don't know who's practised on what settings. The race length is the same as Mugello (although it's not as hot this round), so a similar strategy should work at Barcelona. For what it's worth, I'm able to run the whole race on mediums in the Nissan, just able to manage 15 laps in the first stint with some care.

Not sure if it's just me but the new setup with the tyre wear is like shredding the tyres as you drive changing the handling of the car really quickly. I can prob only manage 9 laps at the most with Audi on meds. Tried soft and was down to 91 at the end of the lap and couldn't power on in the final corner. Will sure be an interesting race as may need more than 3 pits.

The softs are pretty much useless. At Mugello, which was the same length and format, people used a mixture of medium and hard tyres. I think everyone pitted twice at Mugello (unless they miscalculated their fuel).

Remember the pit window is between the end of lap 6 and the end of lap 23, to do the two CPS. You can do extra pit stops outside of that as well, if you need to.

If you look at the Mugello results here http://xgnassettocorsa.blogspot.com.au/2016/02/s10r4-gt3-at-mugello.html and click on a racer's name, you can see the tyres they used. Bacchulum in his Audi, for example, did the entire race on hards.
