Title: Fanatec CSL Elite Wheel
Post by: Gratulin on November 23, 2017, 07:45:33 PM
Fanatec has the CSL Elite Wheel Starter Pack at 40% off this weekend. Works out to be $399.95 AUD normal price is $759.90. Even though I already have the Elite pedals it is still a good deal ie $399.95 versus $649.90 for the CSL Elite Racing Wheel. Only problem is the steering wheel is rubber. Fanatec has just announced an Alcantara version of this wheel which is $259.90 version $149.95 for the rubber one.

I'm in a should I / shouldn't I loop on the CSL Elite wheel!!!

ONLY $400

It's a good deal and the wheel base performance is far better than my current G27.

That was the one standout deal for me. Great price. Comes with the pedals that you already have though? Albeit the 2 pedal version.

EDIT: Should have actually read your post that you already have the pedals... and yeah it's a cheaper rim but that can always be updated at a later date.

It WAS a good deal. The Fanatec site imploded and when I did get in that deal was gone. From online comments the site got hammered as soon as the sale went live at 9am CET (7pm here).

Seems like its still having issues and comments all over facebook are people complaining. Maybe they'll extend it or something.

Ended up working ok if slowly.

Also, they have announced a McLaren GT3 wheel for the Elite at $260 so that might go nicely with the basic wheel that comes with the CSL Elite starter kit.

That looks nice

That does look pretty cool. I have the formula black rim but it's a tad more expensive. Looks like that one has rubber grips, but the rotary switches on the wheel are nice.

The wheel has arrived. VERY quick delivery. All installed and working for the most part. However, there is one problem. The wheel randomly changes gears all by itself - both upshifts and downshifts. Seems to be after the wheel base heats up. It only happens occasionally but if it is a sudden downshift then the result can be catastrophic. I've raised a ticket with Fanatec but I was wondering if anyone else her has experienced similar problems. I've tested with other sims and it is only happening with Assetto Corsa.

Sounds odd. I've had the same base for nearly 12 months and never had anything like that.

Yeah. I think it must be a hardware fault since I haven't found any one else with the same problem.

Has anyone else ever raised a support call to Fanatec here in Australia?

I cannot find a local phone number for them. I have found their address in Victoria but no phone details.

I am not happy being at the mercy of an email system run from Europe.

I have ages ago but if I recall correctly I used the email. :-\
I did get a rather quick response though.

I put in a warrenty job early this year with Fanatec and my only communication with them was through email. Actually I think it was all through their website support ticket thingy. From what I remember they were pretty quick to response.

Thanks guys. Makes me feel better. I suppose I was just used to being able to make a phone call.

I did, too (email) - got a reasonably quick response with a slow & shoddy resolution :/  (took 3+ weeks, then one screw just fell out of the wheel right after unpacking it).
It was a bit infuriating, since I've paid full price for a new wheel and got a DOA (just like you).  It seems their QC is still not up to scratch.
It was around xmas...so good luck.

I had this issue after two weeks owning my wheel but fixed it myself dreading the thought of being without it lol

Mine was similar bueller.
My FFB motor went, so they gave me the option of sending the wheel back and waiting 3-4 weeks, or fix it myself.
They sent me the replacement motor and instructions and it's been sweet since. ;D

I'm loving the new wheel even with the additional, unsolicited gear changes. But you can't use it in a race so I'm going to send it back if possible.

ALL FIXED!!!

Firmware update fixed the problem. I got onto Fanatec support via their online chat last night and after an hour or so online the support guy gave me a link to a new firmware version that was being used for the CSL Elite PS4 (driver 293; firmware 336). That fixed the problem. Turns out quite a few people had the same problem. If only Fanatec has posted that they were working on a fix!!

Anyway, it is worth noting that the online chat session worked much better than email because it is more interactive. The support guys was very good and thorough. The option doesn't seem to be available on their website all the time. Only during certain working hours (German time).

Excellent. It's good to know that a firmware update can fix what appears to be a hardware problem.
