Title: Steam summer sales.
Post by: Dick Forrest on June 21, 2014, 11:02:41 AM
Not sure if you are all steam junkies like myself.
It's that time of year again when they have Summer sales. There are always some great deals. I pretty much wait from year to year for the sale. up to 70% off current title games is pretty sweet.
you can even find descent titles for under $5.

and have any of you guys checked out "Next Car Game"? I'ts a early access and still a long way to go. but the crash physics are pretty sweet.
They only have 3 cars atm. It's very much based on derby style racing. The driving physics are somewhere between arcade and sim..
I'm pretty new to race sims so my opinion isn't worth much. but NCG I think shows potential too. and it's $22.49 AU..

I swear this is not an advert. :o

I LOVE the cars, but the demolish derby goes against my principles,  I used to hate the waste when I went to the speedway when i was young. ohh to have those cars now! Thanks for the heads up Dick

I think I know what you mean.. Seeing HQ premiers and the like in demo derby's it's like OMG WUT R U DOING??!!

One thing I do wonder how much griefing would be a part of Next Car Game in multiplayer. as it kind of encourages no-rules racing. get to the finish line at all costs.
It's quite comical to play though.

Well maybe you should check it out Bird. I see on my friend list that Marty has it. maybe he can give a pro opinion of it.

it's fun trying to see over a smashed bonnet from in car view, or landing on top of other cars over jumps, ploughing into rows of tyre walls.

I'm not going to.  It's early access.   I'm not paying premium to be a beta tester.  If it's good, it'll be available when it's ready.
Probably cheaper, too :)

It might not have been on sale. I've added it to my wish list. they do change often over the sale.

I got it a while back but honestly find it quite boring and have only ran a handful of laps at most. I also have Beam NG which I think is much better as the crash physics are pretty amazing driving wise both are rubbish. Beam NG I spent a few minutes just finding ways to wreck my car in slow motion NCG I may give another try when its finished but no rush to run it again.

Its amazing in beam ng you can waste an hour or so just throwing your car off a cliff in slow motion. Then using the most primitive AI wreck fest just to see different ways of wrecking a car each time.

Really thinking of getting SpinTires. Looks like fun.
Need a bit more of an arm twist for $30 though.

Hard to find a negative review on Steam.

Your endorsement from the toilet is pretty compelling Glen!

I've watched a few youtube clips and read lots of comments. Not many negatives from people, just like you say, needs some more objectives. but reading the comments there are plenty of ideas for the future.
the maps look massive, It looks pretty enough.. it looks part casual - part sim - part adventure. and Russian. can't say enough nice things about Russian computer games..

Had a quick mess around with Spintires, Had a blast even though I had no idea what I was doing. Made it to a logging camp and things went down hill from there.
Totally rolled my load of logs. Story of my life.

No wheel support, yet which i hope happens soon.

Yes, but of cause my crane truck was miles away, let alone getting the dexterity to use the crane effectively.
Simple concept of moving shit from one place to another, very difficult in practice.

Ok I'm going to say spintires is a puzzle game mainly. a puzzle that you have to spend ages getting a few hundred meters in old trucks that aren't quite suitable for the terrain... A game of winching and getting bogged and winching some more.
It's interesting and kinda casual. Not overly
I'd love to try some multi-player if anyone is up for carrying logs.

Found this G27 set up for it. If you follow his instructions you'll have no dramas.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPJxYRTOwsE
Need to install a Xbox 360 emulator. Use the link from his youtube clip.

The break pedal acts as reverse which can be a bit annoying, probably need to mess around with the settings.

Spin tires update

Hello Everyone,

The update is now ready for download - boot up Steam and if you have the option selected for automatic download, Spintires will download on its own.

It has already been posted, but here is the list of items included in the update:

- Steering wheel support - Supports all steering wheels
- Bouncing rocks fixed
- Vehicle damage calculation more accurate (higher damage)
- Engine auto start when pressing accelerate
- "Engine stalling" progress bar looks changed
- ESC key (default game menu) can now be assigned/reassigned
- Analog Controller input

- Lobby buttons no longer grey out
- Ingame chat history and scroll
- Multiplayer inter-truck winch pulling improved
- Multiplayer trucks no longer fly through air when connecting

Not everything that was supposed to be in the update has been included - the reason is because some more work is required to finalize them.

Mod support has been postponed as the system that is being created for the core game is a bit more complex and it taking some more time than expected. It was decided to release the update without it rather than to postpone the entire update.

Information on the next update will be posted in due course, this will include the contents of the next update. We hope you will enjoy the new steering wheel support in the mean time.

I'm sure I've seen it even cheaper.

And it's a very special niche game. I want to recommend it like crazy one minute, then I don't the next...
Shifting logs from one place to another over extremely difficult terrain is the whole gist of the game. That's it. And it can take hours to shift a small load. On hardcore mode if you get stuck that's it. You need to bring another truck in to get that one out. Get all your trucks stuck it's game over. and you might not of got a single log to a destination. So it might not be for some people.
Action is pretty slow. It's more about relaxing and just get some damn logs shifted.. A painful camera to get the hang of. But once you so it's not so bad.
Modders love it. There is a very big 4x4 modding scene. The 4x4 car crowd don't really have a game to play in and Spintyres is open world with winches and all sorts of terrain... as long as the terrain is mud, water or rocks. or combinations of all three.

It is very very pretty to look at. Their god rays work! It goes from day to night which is adjustable for no real reason. but they do it very well. Atmosphere is awesome.
I'd call it a strange Russian puzzle game with trucks, winches and logs. Still is early access. updates are very slow but they still are producing work.

Yeah there is FFB in the new spin tires update, tested it out for a little while yesterday, its nothing special and you only get 180 degrees lock to lock but it works its a little strange driving with a wheel from the strange camera angles tho. Would be awesome if they would add an in cab view.

would love cab view! I've seen a modder working on it but I don;t think it;s released.

Let me guess, in that last picture you were trying to back up with the medium log trailer. pretty much every time I try no matter what I do I almost always flip it because the trailer just goes where ever it feels like and gets caught and flips the truck.

yep it loves to get stuck or flip you in reverse.. That is when the camera can get a bit annoying where it wont more to a spot where you can see what your trailer is sticking on.

not the same intensity required. and that two hours would be over a week real time... and it's more pulling logs than pushing... you might have to lift a few if you drop your load...

Get all your trucks stuck it's game over. and you might not of got a single log to a destination.

Haha It reminds me of the  $multi-thousand sand pit I built for the kids in PNG, my Toyota got bogged on the beach with the load of wet beach sand
the 60Ton crane that I had brought down to pull me out, was mistakenly attempted to drive on beach... it was bogged
the ever increasing multi-drive trucks brought down to pull the crane, to pull me out were not up to the task
the crusher  was stopped, the very large rubber tyre dozer was driven down
which successfully pulled the crane out
at the same time as a gang of locals and I pushed the Toyota off the beach... (the whole thing took time!)   :-X

(Dick another story from the SHORT time I have been around  ::) )

I gained .8 seconds per log drop with the H Shifter - who woulda thunk it  ;D
