I haven't noticed any grip weirdness on starts in ai races or in my own practice. Good to be aware of it though. Tricky car. We'll just do a normal start, although I will raise initial grip a little. Are you using softs? They seem to last a long distance.

Who's to say the graining behaviour is a bug?

What kind of downforce are you guys trying? I've gone in the 8/10 kind of range so far. I think in the long run, it's going to be more important to keep the car on the track.

Does anyone know if you can map boost to buttons on the steering wheel?
You probably have to go via third party software to map buttons to keystrokes. It would be nice to have a Boost Up and Down buttons.

We need a whole season in these cars Wally, they're so much fun! ;D ;D ;D

They're intriguing actually, aren't they. Boost decisions, the handling, turbo madness...

Is it as good as the Assetto Corsa watermark app?

Are you drunk again, Guybrush?

Although I don't think I ever blew my engine at 100%. It flashes red every gear change, but still lasts quite a while, but I don't think I'm going to risk it, other than in qually. What the hell, virtual motors are cheap, let's blow a dozen up.

Yes, it was quite good fun, with some close, side by side racing. Yep, I thought the Hellicopta or whatever it's called was very good.

This car is a beast
I agree... a completely untamed wild beast at that!!

Things to look out for...
The turbo boost is mapped to the number keys for those that didn't know... and as I found out, this extends to when you are naming a set that you want to save, eg I saved a set as 'StanDaam01' and then when I left the pits my boost was on 10% (from the '1' in the name I presume). Had me scratching my head for a while on that one... now I just scratch other areas. I'm unsure how to run the boost yet, if I leave it on 100% my motor only goes for a few laps...  :P

I found that pretty much 70% is the max sustainable boost for your engine.

It's a very useful app for seeing who's in close vicinity, and pretty unobtrusive, with it disappearing altogether when no one's near. I'd recommend it.

This car is a beast, what a piece of engineering.Racing in this car you got to be ,crazy and fit no question....could you immaginig racing Alain Prost at imola for 90 min???  :o :o :o

I love the new racing formula Wally, fantastic!!  Thing is I have to find out how to pit for fuel and tyres with AC...LOL   :-* :-* :-*

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_98T

It's quite easy. You just drive into pits and stop in the big white box you'll see in your pit bay. Then a pop-up window appears where you can click on fuel and tyres if you want to change them, repair if you want it, then click a big tick button. Wait, then go! You can only practice it in online race mode - maybe try it on the practice server in a race session.

The fuel rate will be 4x.

This means you'll get somewhere between 14 and 16 laps per tank, depending on your turbo boost level.

I've also found that any turbo boost over 70% pretty much damages your engine in every gear. It will be good for qualifying, but won't last much race distance.

The practice server is up with 4x fuel.

New car Wally, don't forget my skin. ;)
No, I've got a special case just for you now ;)

Wally I ended up getting a G27 which will last me anouther year I guess then will look at whats going on with the direct drive wheels, so I will be able to do the next 2 rounds if there are spots. I will be away after that for the rest of the season.

OK, great.

Thanks for the sentiment Simone, but we are all sitting somewhere on the scale of pace, from the quickest to the slowest, and there are plenty quicker than me.  I also have the luxury of being able to practice.

Without sounding arrogant, one day I'd like to put together something which shows how I normally learn a track and car (and possibly setup) to see if it helps anyone, as there is a process I normally go through.

Yeah, that would be interesting, because take it from me, we all go through these phases in our sim racing "careers" of not being able to understand how someone can be many seconds a lap faster than you, no matter what you try or how much you practice.

It was interesting to look at your telemetry some time ago and compare it to mine. The takeaway there, time and time again, was that you brake later and get on the power earlier. Do that on each of a dozen or so corners, and it adds up to seconds pretty quickly. Perhaps you are especially skilled at setting up the car in such a way that allows you to do that, on top of any natural smoothness or skill.
