Title: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bacchulum on September 26, 2013, 07:38:53 PM
The latest news:

Time to make some clarification about the rumours related to pre-orders. We confirm we worked on this matter in the last two months. When we supposed that the entire process was almost ready to be started, our lead programmer unofficially confirmed on his personal twitter account that pre-orders would start very soon. This was supposed to be true. Sadly, in our Country the laws related to e-commerce are very complicated and inadequate for the digital distribution. At the last minute, just a couple of days before to launch the pre-order, we have been informed about some additional documentation and rules that don't allow us to start the pre-order phase already set. This has nothing to do with Steam nor with the development of the game, it's just burocracy. We understand you can be disappointed about it, but well, you can figure how much we are too. Anyway, if we made any mistake or lack in communication, we apologise for it. Everyone can make mistakes, we are not better than any other.

Now we are working on a different strategy, with the aim to meet -as soon as possible - your wishes and our needs. As soon as we are able to give you more information, we'll update you with more details, through our official channels. Meanwhile, thank you for your kind patience and support.

From what I've heard of the Italian legal system, it all sounds perfectly reasonable.
It's good news though as far as I'm concerned, it shows they're ready for pre-sales as far as the sim goes. ;D

Interesting tweet by Kunos: he said that "uploading Imola and one car is bigger than the NKP installer." Now why would he be uploading Imola and 1 car?

I've only tried the '49@Monza so far, but LOVIN' IT!!! ;D ;D
Wish I could move the seat and the garage had S.I. units instead of whole numbers, but hopefully that will come.
Love the graph that's available in the pits, my brake application is exactly the same time as my throttle lift. ;D ;D 8) 8)

Wish I could move the seat

+/-

I'm underwhelmed at the moment. The FFB feels pretty dead and lifeless on my T500RS, just a lot of spring. I'll have to fiddle with settings.

To move the seat other than +/-, do this to get more apps at the side:

"You must enable dev apps. To do that, open your system/cfg/assetto_corsa.ini and set ENABLE_DEV_APPS=1 then you'll find some new apps in the Apps Bar."

Actually, there's a wealth of real time setup telemetry in those dev apps. You could go nuts looking at all these numbers when developing a car setup.

I was having a lot of fun with the BMW 30. For me, I had to turn the FFB gain down a lot to avoid excessive clipping which was just washing out all the FFB.

Hey Guys, does anybody know if there is a 'Rank' app or Rank website for AC? While we are waiting for some real racing at least chasing Rank times might be fun.

Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bird on November 10, 2013, 08:32:17 PM
I don't think there's ranking - it'd require the times to be reported in some way, and that requires an online part.
But we can always start a thread, if somebody wants to pick it up, and keep a list - it'd be honesty-based, but still workable.  Just needs time from someone to compile individual posts into a list.

Or we could go by screenshots.

And by the by, I think the time attack separates the men from the boys, it requires speed & consistency!
We could share it like this:
and by the way, you guys MUST try this combo, the Formula Abarth at Vallelunga - recommended by Speed on the arse forums, great fun combo!

Intriguing quote from one of the devs on the forums:

In AC it is "easy" to go closer to the limit, but it is very very difficult to find the last 3-4 tenths.

The above statement also connects to the "lack of depth" from Adrian. IMHO, and please excuse me if I might sound arrogant I'm not but probably I'm not expressing this correctly in english, but IMHO you are all still scratching the surface. There are many things to be discovered in AC in terms of what the sim does and how it handles. You'll see much more depth when you will start to try to go faster and faster. Don't get fooled that you simply are not spinning when trying to go as fast as you think you can now.
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bird on November 11, 2013, 08:42:09 AM
Yeah I agree, it's very nice and forgiving in most cars, until you start really trying to get to the limit.  Having said that, there are ppl (as usual) who just hop in and churning out insane quick laps straight away.

Istvan, I thought you were joking, everybody knows that Time Attack is for Arcade Noobs!!!

WRONG!!!

It certainly does require speed and consistency, and as you get closer to being knocked out you then get pressure just to add to the stress. Great fun, thanks for getting me to try it.

I'd say it's probably in your documents folder, usually c:\users\[username]\Documents\Assetto Corsa\

Get used to this, more and more software are (wrongly, IMHO) putting their data in the documents folder, instead of application data.

Edit: sorry, actually the ini file quoted is not to be found there.
I've looked in the steam/steamapps/common/assettocorsa/cfg as well, and it's not there either.
Could it have been removed in one of the patches...?

Edit2:
Ah, found it
"c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\assettocorsa\system\cfg\assetto_corsa.ini"

now, of course, depending on your steam installation & settings, this maybe somewhere else...but it's under steam.

Fark me, ini files in 3 different locations for this one program, that's a bit of a mess :D

Lap 2 Testing how the car reacts to curbs (loving it, check out how the car skips after attacking a high curb).

I also love how the astroturf is for once slippery in places, really keeps you honest! Kunos team is genius, so glad I have waited and held off sinking a tonne of coin into iRacing..

Your mate needs to turn his gain down, his FFB is clipping good badly on the pedals app.

Man I'm having trouble getting the gear changes (consistently) right with the H shifter.

A mate of mine uses a sequential shifter and he can flat change up and down shift without blipping the throttle. I only race in Pro mode but I turned off the shifter to give it a try and I am nearly half a second faster. A definite advantage over us H shifter users.  :(

I'm sure that given time I can get it right. I guess that I will have to learn to heel and toe. But a bit disappointing that a "simulation" allows an advantage like this.

I'm finding the h shifter difficult too. It's a challenge. With the right rpm, I can flat shift though.

Post by: Bird on November 12, 2013, 12:55:57 PM
nkp (and AC the same) is a bit slack on the shifting simulation I think.  There was a version early on iirc (of nkp) which penalised wrong shifts but I maybe wrong.  It was a nightmare to change gears without clucthing...was it really nkp?  Might have been iracing, LOL

1:35.640 for me.

How good is this car. I feel totally connected to the track. There's the perfect amount of grip and feedback. Late braking is awesome, you can feel every little bit of grip the tires are giving you at the limit.

Yeah I can ussually go a little bit quicker when using the flappy paddles, but it just doesn't feel like i'm driving the car. When you finally get it all right and together it really is something you can enjoy with the h shifter. I still haven't mastered the heel toe, I think I need to move my pedals a bit closer. My feet move all over the place :S

Yeah? I've got more in it, I ran out of time. I found it helps to raise the brake gamma in the control settings, to about 3 point something. I was locking the brakes far too easily in a lot of cars. This makes the brake response less linear, so you can brake more gently before you reach the "Oh sh!t" point and have to mash the brakes harder.

LOL I've been at that stage regularly. I've probably only done about 10laps, and I still don't really know the track. I will have another crack over the weekend. I did some more Monza in the 49 (H shifter & clutch) last night and got it down to a 1:29.4 I just clipped the wall in the double right hander tho.
I was going to post a replay but seems you cannot edit them yet and its errrr rather large after 22 laps or something.

I recorded our Friday nite race last week attempting to use FRAPs I decided we don't get along. I found FFSplit (i think its called) its much better in all aspects including price. I'll see if i get the urge to make one... could be interesting to see how it goes with the 3 screens anyways.
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bird on November 15, 2013, 12:17:10 PM
Oh, yes, the 3 screens would result in a huge video file.

p.s.I've bought fraps years and years ago, hence it's a no-brainer for me.  It records the video.  Then I can convert it to some very space-conscious format with virtualDub and all is good :)  But it's usually too much hassles to do, lately...

I haven't physically got three monitors yet, but I set it to triple monitor in-game. I can see it's rendering all 3 viewports onto my one monitor. With everything maxxed, I'm getting 140-150 FPS. I don't know if that's what it's going to be with 3 actual monitors connected, but I suppose as far as the game's concerned, it's still rendering 5940 x 1080.

I've got my triple monitors set up now. Jaw dropping! With everything pretty much maxxed out (except for the reflection settings) I'm getting 80 - 90 FPS at 5840 x 1080 with the single GTX 780.

For those of you with triples, how are you adjusting your view? I've played with the triple screen app, where if you put in real numbers for distances, sizes and angles, it seems to put you way too close to the windscreen. I've tweaked that to what looks good to me, but then find I still have to move the seat nearly all the way back if I want to see a little of the dash.

And is the FOV then automatic? Changing the FOV doesn't seem to make any difference.
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bacchulum on December 01, 2013, 09:50:06 AM
FOV is set by the figures you put into the triple app.
I did fudge the setup figures a little, but if I could move the seat back a bit more I wouldn't.
I do move the seat all the way back and down a little in all cars, and still have to rely on the Fanatec display for some.
But I find the immersion is magnified when the FOV is correct.

And welcome to tripleland. 8)

yeah the triple monitor gadget it is.   I've tweaked it a bit too, as it looked weird with the 'correct' numbers in.  Mostly I was too far, not too close, and the side monitors didn't line up properly - I had to give them a much higher angle for straight lines to run straight from my viewpoint.

Good to hear the single 780 does that great of a job...I might just upgrade.  2x670 can't do all details @80fps, only around 50 I think (haven't checked with the last version and it may depend on track and other factors...)  Although 5900x1200 is ~7mp, yours is "only" ~6mp

These are my settings in the triple screen app Wally, I quite like like this view, you might like to try..

Rotation Spinner 27  Distance Spinner 1831  Spinner Screen Width 1913  Margin Spinner 28.

I adjust seat position for each car via seat app.  Dave O.

geezus, you're 1.8m away from the screen?  (the distances are in millimeters)  if not, you're using a much lower fov than what's realistic - based on this.  altho....you probably don't have a 1.9m wide screen either.  Ok scrap that :)   But it's definitely weird.  I reckon if you reduce the distance & width to "normal", you'd end up with roughly the same view.
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa

Mathematically, it's just the ratio of width to distance that's important.

Yeah, you're right Istvan, very similar view but a much better FOV. Finding the apex's a lot easier too.

great! :D  What's your side monitor angle, though, guys?  I had to increase mine to about 3 times to what it really is...I have a feeling something isn't right :)

I've 800 distance 510 width and 45 bezel,  And that's realistic and looking good.
But the angle of the screens is around 15-20 degrees, and I need to set it to 50-55 for it look right.

Gents; a test.
I'm setting everything to max, but no blur nor hdr.   What fps you're getting at monza66 in the lotus historic?
Assuming it's the top value I'm getting around 35, running 2x670 in SLI at 5900x1200

So long as the lines look straight, it should be ok. I'm sure my in game angles are bigger than the actual angles.

Maxed, no blur, HDR is on, some of the reflection cubemap stuff is down. 5860 by 1080. I'm getting 85 to 95 FPS with that combo.

Thanks Wally!
Can you up the reflections to max as well, and try it, please?
I reckon there must be some SLI optimisation problems here - I can't imagine 2x670 being so far down in performance :/

p.s. yes my lines look straight with it set to 50 deg.

Without altering my other settings (most around medium) my 2x670's work better with HDR on rather than off.
No idea what framerate that is, haven't worked out how to see that yet....

There's one widget something like rendering stats...I think the topmost value is the fps. (output these by moving your mouse to the right-edge of the screen and selecting which one)
If not, then I'm looking at something utterly wrong :)

Cool.
The FPS one I found only gives a line graph with no increments.
(although it does have a line at 60fps, so I'm lower than that)

That is mighty surprising, mate.  HDR does require extra from the cards...

I've tried to set everything to max, no HDR, no blur - again, as I can't stand it, hehe - but I've left the reflection stuff on the default.
This gives me about 45-55fps (looking at the system gadget top value - hope that's the fps)
with HDR on, otherwise all the same it drops to 35-40

I reckon SLI optimisations aren't on....

I read somewhere that either fullscreen on or off in the game settings either makes SLI work or not. You'll have to try with and without fullscreen and see if it makes a difference.
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bird on December 05, 2013, 10:43:56 AM
I'm pretty sure it'd be fullscreen on where it should work, because otherwise the desktop takes over...but I'll test it.
Edit: tested. barely a difference.

Then this:
I've reduced the resolution to 4800x1200 (5.7mp) leaving everything the same.   60fps.  That's against the 80-90 of the single 780 at 6.3mp!   In the meantime I was logging via msi afterburner, and the cpu usage was pretty much at max on both cards, memory at ~1850 out of the 2048 (MB).  I've tried both full screen and windowed, barely a difference as I said (windowed was down 5fps or so)...

There is something fishy here I reckon... :)

Can you post your full pc specs? mine are:
ASUS p8z77-V Deluxe
Intel i5-3570k
Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB

2x GXT670 (Gigabyte)
Sound Blaster recon3D

SilverStone Fortress FT02B-W
Antec 850W Signature

Some specs I remember:

Gigabyte GA-P55a mobo
The Asus 780 is stock overclocked, I think.
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa

And I have FSAA on max, which turns off AA, and also only tried with cube map etc about half way. Haven't tried maxxing out the reflection stuff yet. That could be an FPS killer.
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bird on December 05, 2013, 04:11:31 PM
hm...ok so you run fsaa instead of AA - that might be something worth looking at.
Funny thing is that I've read around that the 750 is barely enough to drive a 670 to its full capacity. If that is true, you're definitely bottlenecking the 780 - and still getting much better performance...damn! :)

Edit: running fxaa (as it's called in the nvidia panel - this is the fsaa I reckon) I get 70-80 fps in 4800x1200.  And around 60-70 in 5760x1200.

I really wish you were living closer, I'd definitely like to give it a try chucking that card into my computer...
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bird on December 05, 2013, 04:34:02 PM
Wally, any chance you can run a test with these exact settings?
If you don't mind I'd really like to get to the bottom of this.

(fxaa is ON in the nvidia control panel this time)

These settings give me a solid 60-65 fps in 5760x1200
(the reflections seem to be a fairly big hog of performance when upped!)

With those settings, I'm getting 95 - 115.

I know my CPU is a bottleneck, but I didn't want to fork out for a new mobo and CPU as well. I can get an i7-8xx that will work on my mobo though.

Hi Istvan, tried you're exact settings on my machine....

Intel i5-3570k
Z77 Extreme 4 MoBo
Corsair Vengence  4x4 GB
Gigabyte GTX 670 1x
Antec 520 high current gamer PSU

3x Asus 23" monitors @ 5760x1080

2 laps at Mugello gave me..  Lowest FPS 50. Highest FPS 60.
most of the lap average was about 55 FPS.

Hope this info helps in some way  :)  Cheers Dave O.
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bird on December 06, 2013, 08:39:36 AM
It does, Dave, thanks.  Altho you were running at mugello, that may skew the results a bit, it's still very comparable.  It seems I'm almost getting a single-GPU performance, even though both are being used (watched it in MSI afterburner)
I think it's time to post on the official forums to see if they can help me get it right...

Thank you Wally, yeah it seems we've an SLI optimisation issue here or somesuch.

ps; the bottleneck; not sure if it would come out in AC as of now.  Maybe some other games are more demanding...I think you've got plenty of fps for now :)

Here's my test Lotus 49 @ Monza66:

System specs:
CPU: Intel i7 930@2.80GHz
GPU: GeForceGTX670 x 2
Mem: 6GB
Res: 5850x1080, 60Hz (3x24" LG Monitors)
Op. Sys.: Win7Pro 64bit

45-50 fps using Bird's settings (dropped to a low of 42 but only at the 'tickle-me' Lesmos)
I guess my MoBo sucks, I'll try and find out what it is. :(
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bird on December 06, 2013, 10:51:16 PM
Mate, you seem to suffer from the same problem.  You've the performance of a single 670 - see Dave's results above. Comparable.
I've since posted on the AC forums, but got merged with an old thread which I don't fully understand, they talk about setting bits - dunno where or how, though. Not yet, anyway.

This is the thread if you guys are interested:
http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/sli-how-to-get-the-best-performance.1416/

Ah, I've now read the thread more carefully, and here's how one changes things:
Quote
I'm using the latest version of NVIDIA Inspector (you can check for updates on the program itself). To edit AC profile, click on the "toolbox" icon next to your driver version, look for "Assetto Corsa" in the drop down menu in the top left, check that acs.exe is being considered in this profile and then change SLI Compatibility bits (DX1x) from 0x00000000 to 0x080210F5. Press Apply in the top right and you're good to go. You'll know it's working if when launching the game you get mad flickering from HDR for the first 10 seconds or so (while the camera spins around the car as it sits on the track).

but as he wrote it gets really flickery - altho the performance pretty much doubles, that's true :)

These are the values one can try:
0x000040F5
0x080210F5
0x000110FB
0x080202F5

the last one does not work for at all, for me, the rest gives me the flickers.  I'll just wait till it's fixed. :)

New video card, pretty happy with it so far.
Intel i5-4670K @ 3.40
Asrock Z87 Extreme 3
G Skill Ripjaws  2x4 GB
Sapphire ATI R9 290

3x LG 24" monitors @ 5760x1080

2 laps around Monza into the Lotus gave me 90-105 fps with the time set to 12:00
@ 18:00 I got about 70-80FPS I guess due to having to render lots of shadows.
Still only the inital drivers off the disc, and the default settings that it chose to install for me. So hopefully I can extract another 5-10% out of that after tinkering.

Sort of why I was surprised by the countdown.
Sure, it gets people talking but it also gets peoples hopes up, and if it doesn't live up to those expectations, it backfires.
People can get bitter when their hopes are dashed.

Leave the countdown for the final release and just make ordinary announcements about the rest. ;)

I read that!!

I have played AC for a bit and is very good,i was not overloaded with expectations so I feel very positive about it,even though I am scared to wait all 2014 to compete in multiplayer.

I understand Mr Massarutto ,I am  self emplyoyed ,and I know his feeling,,,they have run out of money and they are very careful not to waste them..logically,They have all my understanding, and if I could I would have paid double than I did.

Its a very competitive world out there, and for what I know creating racing sims you need millions of dollars, money that simply they don't have,i hope they will finish this AC without too much of hassle so that the talent they got it wont go wasted.

I've read the first few paragraphs, and I'm alarmed...it sounds like these guys don't have funds to develop the game at all, and it all hinges on more people paying them licence fees.
It all sounds like they went into this business venture without properly planning and allocating funds for everything.
Scary shit.

I'll probably read the rest when I've more time.
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa

I believe they pay licence fees, so they have the funds for that but need to be frugal and get value for money.
That's how they're justifying DLC.
At least that's how I read it.

not bad! I kept effing up T1, or if not that then the last chicane so I gave up after a while - I'm sure there's more in it!
What really buggers me is that I'm ~6s off the best times nearly everywhere.  That's just too much :)

Hit esc, then restart the hotlapping session, it puts you onto the screen where all the options currently available will be visible. (the F40 has a lot of things locked down)  Go through the tabs to change a few things.
If you haven't saved your setup you can pick it up next time from the 'generic' setups, it'll be called 'last'.

Tip: select the L3 upgraded F40 and you can put slicks on it; it's much nicer to drive :)
You can select the upgrade from the outside (you have to quit the session) - or you can start up the special F40 challenge, it'll give you the L3 upgraded version straight away - altho without slicks!

one thing though; do you have to use the base 458 fezza at Imola, or can you use the L3? (first challenge)
Edit; nevermind, standard must be used

I've a problem, though.
I've got all 10 times, but only 8 are counted - laps that I've previously put in (and pretty darn good ones) don't count :(

If any of you guys have a rego on RSR, can you pls post this for me? (I can't register it says "email address invalid" for a perfectly working email, plus my eyes are watering trying to solve their captcha images, so I gave it up)

Quote
I've got all 10 times set on pro for the "All around" rank here:
http://www.radiators-champ.com/RSRLiveTiming/index.php?page=PROrank&rankId=2

And yet the rank seems to count only the latest 8 of them. (not sure, as it does not say)
I've no idea why, any help would be appreciated.

This is my profile:
http://www.radiators-champ.com/RSRLiveTiming/index.php?page=driver_profile&id=1351

I've worked hard for those times, so I'd not like to delete them, that's not an acceptable solution for me. They were set on pro, so they should count in my opinion.

thanks!

Guys, check it out. You can already enable AI, by editing a file as per this post: http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/ai-videos.4809/#post-52609 (http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/ai-videos.4809/#post-52609)

Then you can start a quick race with AI. They take off, but there's no logic to them yet - they just drive off and crash. But it's still good to see effect on FPS etc. And it's cool to see other cars on track with you :)

It kills FPS.

Scared that if I shut it down I lose monitors and therefore access to the PC........ :-\
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bird on January 08, 2014, 10:50:21 PM
You can shut it down, restart in safe mode, uninstall the old drivers, and reinstall the new one.
If a driver install goes wrong, all you get is a very low resolution windows built-in driver, that's all.  Happened to me a few times.

Oh, and depending on the driver and your computer it shall be done in a minute to a few minutes. I'd say 5 min tops.
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bacchulum on January 09, 2014, 05:03:26 PM
I believe it did install, at least it says it's the new driver, so it must just have been the countdown window (or whatever you call it) that stalled at 25%. :-\
Hopefully that's the case.
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bird on January 09, 2014, 07:27:12 PM
Well, if you have any problems, you can always reinstall it.  I suggest a clean reinstall, if you need to do it.

AI update via Facebook:

Quote
Aristotelis Vasilakos As you've probably have guessed by now, tomorrow update of Assetto Corsa will include the first taste of AI. In order to contain the hype and lower expectations, let's focus on the word "taste".

For this first AI update, we won't give you the complete grid AI enabled. There will only be some special events quick races, with some cars on some tracks that will give you a taste as I said of Ai races.
I know that everybody wants the full monty, but I'm also sure that you understand that we need to test the performance of the AI on various systems, check for bugs, improve it and so on. It is far easier for us to do so on some specific scenarios, than having to control the whole Assetto Corsa grid at once.

We're pretty satisfied with how AI is coming along, but we also want to make it better and that's exactly what we're going to do once the update is out. We will collect your impressions and reports and work our asses for the next update to make them even better and offer you as soon as possible the whole AI functionality. I'm pretty confident you're going to like what you will experience tomorrow and I'm sure you will be hungry for more. Tiny bit of patience and we will deliver, you know already that we are listening and working constantly on this.

As a side note, of course you're going to get a couple of new cars and some new upgrades too, plus a complete rework of our tyre model (yikes!)... it's subtle, nothing too drastic, but we think you'll like it even more.

Ok back to work to put the final touches on tomorrows update, thanks for listening

First impressions are very good.
I did a few Taatus@Monza races, and the AI was very professional.
I dive-bombed and they didn't just keep taking their line, they reacted and didn't turn in.
A few corners later they returned the favour, only cleaner and in more control than me. :-[

I have found a bug though:
In a 1000m drag race in the Taatus, I can get near perfect starts with my eyes closed. 8) ;D
Just dump the clutch when you hear the AI engage 1st. :P
(21.699 is my PB)

Hey Guys, over at the AC Forums in their Modding Section, there is a Thread where you can d/l "DIY Custom Race Events". Haven't tried any yet, but it might be a chance to check out the AI of different cars and tracks while we are waiting for "official" races.

http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/post-diy-events-here.5372/#post-61787

I repeat, I haven't tried any yet so use at your own discretion.

rob

EDIT 1:
I thought I should stop being a Wus and actually try one.

Loaded the BMW M3 E30 Group A at Imola. What a hoot. Great fun. I have also d/l some skins for the little Beemer and it makes it look even more impressive.

EDIT 2:
The AI only used the Default skins, however the Player can choose a Custom Skin.

I shortened the Race to 5 Laps, makes it a bit more challenging in Easy mode, I have no idea how I will go as the AI gets tougher.

I'm looking forward to trying it, but it's shaping up to be a pretty busy weekend. You should definitely drive the T125 until Tuesday night and not drive anything slower.

The biggest help for me is getting the tyres to work.
Aris posted the operating zones here:
http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/tyre-temperatures-and-wear.2723/ (http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/tyre-temperatures-and-wear.2723/)

And this app allows you to adjust the optimum and monitor the temps:
http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/tyre-temperatures-and-more.1707/ (http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/tyre-temperatures-and-more.1707/)

Get all 4 tyres working and grip comes'a knockin'. ;D ;D

I'm struggling to get enough heat into the tyres (in the base Lotus). I can't get much above 80°. It is very good though, although I've never liked Nurburgring.

We should use the friend's leaderboard app in the game. I sent some Steam invitations to a couple that I could find. I'm, mastersonwally in Steam.
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Bacchulum on March 02, 2014, 10:35:24 AM
Increase slow dampers all round, increase cambers (good for maintaining heat on the straights) and lower the pressures.
Stiffening the springs will also generate heat but that just makes the bumps worse. :(
All that failing, go to the stage 1, it generates heat NO PROBLEMS!!! ;D ;D

I'm Bacchulum on Steam (and everywhere) ;)

I think driving has a bit to do with it, sometimes pushing harder than you think will generate the heat and make it possible. ;D

Do you use the RSR Rank app Wally?
It's linked to Steam but I couldn't find mastersonwally on there. :-\
I mention it because they now have a community feature.
We could also form an XGN community there, maybe pick up some new drivers for the imminent MP release. ;)

I do use RSR rank. I think I'm just "Wally Masterson" on there. I haven't run it for a while (since we got AI, actually). Yes, we should set up an XGN community.

Added a few people to my steam account also.. Hit Mugello in the S1 T125 and got down to a 1:29.6xx on super softs using a set that was available on RSR in the setups section. Have not tried Daves set yet will give it a go soon.

Great to see at least you can compare times with others...at least until MP arrives.

That corner performance app looks perfect for implementing what Rob Wilson describes about cornering in this clip:

(It's meant to be an analysis of Button v Magnussen, but he gets side tracked talking about Kimi's cornering ;))
Title: Re: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Wally on March 10, 2014, 11:58:57 AM
I got to a 1:29.757 at Mugello (setup attached).
I've gone max wings, and raised the ride height a little to compensate. I was having trouble with the kerbs throwing me off the track, so I reduced camber and lowered the fast damper values. The biggest gain I got though was by slowing my corner entry. I was coming in too fast, understeering and then overheating the tyres, and getting an even worse exit as a result. The soft tyres are so sensitive to any kind of sliding. They overheat quickly. So I went for a much more "slow in, fast out" driving style.

Post from Aris about the 312.

Warning! Nerd comment ahead, move over nothing to see here.
As Bryant said, the statement "zero grip" is an exaggeration. As an example, the Lotus49, no aero, old 60s treaded tyres etc etc, still capable of doing more than 1.2lateral steady g force in the turns. If you can't quantify how much this is, it is equal to the grip of the Exige 240 S3 on semislicks and much much better than your typical street car. Keep in mind that in real life you feel a big difference in grip with 0.1g force variations.
The 312T obviously does more, around 1.5-1.6g at any time. It's all in the choice of words really, journalists but often also drivers, will choose a fancy word to describe the handling of a car, but the reality is that there is never just a single variable that defines the car (like zero rear grip), but a big number of small details.
In the case of the 312T, the small details are the ones that doesn't let you do one perfectly precise lap, after another. Each lap is different, you brake a little different, you do the turn a little different, you slide the car a little different. It's a very "alive" car, very exciting, but if you need to judge it severely, it's not such an honest car. For example a GT3 modern car is extremely precise, always honest as constant as possible and this permits to its drivers to get close to the limit constantly.
The 312T is not as constant. The limit is more blurred, you go near it but you need to be creative to find it and to stay on it. This means driving a lot with your instincts and less with precise your reference points.
Some say the GT or modern F1 cars are boring in comparison, but in terms of engineering and efficiency, they are far better than the old cars.
I leave you with a page from a great book "Formula 1 Technology" from Peter Wright, which explains perfectly well the difference between old and modern racing cars. What you see is the grip and how it grows (or not) with speed from downforce.
Modern rules limit the amount of downforce to keep cars safe. But as you can see, a modern car not only has more grip at high speeds, but also the change is gradual and has also more grip at lower speed. That is the difference. Not much how absolute values you get, but how you can exploit them.
The later will be very evident with the Lotus 98T. Almost the same downforce like the Exos S1, much more power... but stil, slower laptimes, simply because you can't stay close to the limit, or even find the damn limit, with that tricky car.

Yes I run Sli, I dont think 2X 460's would run AC that well let alone one. Might try the F11 thing and have a read as well. It worked OK in earlier versions as I remember driving the BMW around when first released. Running through steam.

Niiice. Too fast for me! Hey, can you share ghosts? That would be cool.

How do I do that?  I'll look around later tonight, it's dinner/bathing/bedtime for the lil one :)
Btw the program hasn't registered my fastest lap for whatever reason - but it's not at my limit I feel, I've been able to pull faster 2nd sectors, and the exit to the back straight is still lacking.  So when I get a good lap  - registered by the program - I'll share that.

This is currently 4th, I'm hoping to get up to 2nd :)

meh.  I can't beat that time, now.  I got within a tenth, but that's it.  I was up 0.2 after the first 2 corners a couple of times, just to lose it going onto the straight.  That corner is a real bitch.  And I was able to shave a tenth off on the last combo once or twice - but never all at the same time :)

I can't find how to share ghosts or which file it maybe.  Possible that it's just taking it from the telemetry data somehow.

Check my setups - they all use this.  But it won't increase engine power, it increases the engine revs I reckon, allowing it to be over the 100% "normal" range or somesuch.  Here's my setup for monza.  Btw you can lose a crapload of time for any messed-up corner exit - due to the long straights next :)

http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/simracing-dashboard-version-0-11b.2466/ (http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/simracing-dashboard-version-0-11b.2466/)

Here's a screenie of a motec style dash on my tablet. I've edited the dash to add a delta to best time. Thereaare several styles of dash to choose from. It's pretty cool!

Hey Wally, I finally got the dash to work (had to create a rule in the firewall) but I have not been able to find too many "Styles". Could you please tell me where you got the Motec one, or did you create it yourself?

cheers
rob

When you run that program, and you get the little window with the "Start engine" button, there is a link in that window to go to "Styles". You just download a zip file and drop it into the Styles folder of where you installed the program.

You can also get to them here: http://www.simracing-tools.de/simtools/index.php/en/dashboard/style-gallery

Apparently (I haven't tried yet) you can turn the engine up to 103%.
(which is irrational as 100% is maximum)
(I hate irrational >:()

Check my setups - they all use this.  But it won't increase engine power, it increases the engine revs I reckon, allowing it to be over the 100% "normal" range or somesuch.  Here's my setup for monza.  Btw you can lose a crapload of time for any messed-up corner exit - due to the long straights next :)
Thanks Steve. ;)

Thanks Istvan, I put in some serious time to try and improve. Your time is still safe though, I seem to have hit my limit.

The improvements came from a combination of 103%, setup tweaks, and being too stubborn to give in. lol

nice!
I thought a few times that I hit my limit, only to realise it wasn't really that, yet. :)

For me changing tracks and coming back later helps heaps, I'm honing my setup skills with the car as well in the meantime...I've tried the m3/mugello race challenge on alien tonight...sheesh, those guys are effing fast.  And they're like tanks, I came out second best of every bump.  But managed, finally. Funny thing is that I run a pb by about .5 on one of the laps while I was trying desperately to catch the leader :)

2:2.93 - not too shabby :)

Hey guys, there is a (probably illegal) version of Phillip Is on Race Dept Forums. Not sure how long it will last, Eastern Ck has been removed already.

Its still pretty basic, but better than Eastern Creek, which was converted by the same author.

Mate, if you don't mind, would you care to write things out a bit nicer?   I mean using full words, capital letters, punctuations, you know the whole works that you've learned in the school?  It's really annoying to try and read this garbage.

I'm finding it somewhat offensive; it tells me you don't care if we actually read & understand it or not.

Just re-read it after posting, it helps heaps.  There's an edit button.

But this one does look interesting, going to give it a try.

[EN / IT]
Dear AC followers, we are encountering an unknown and unpredictable issue that causes random crashes with single-player race events, probably due to some additional implementations that single-player thread shares with the multiplayer build. We are working to identify the cause and to solve it, but we can't commit the new build within today. We apologise for this inconvenient, we'll keep you informed as soon as our development team will be able to make the new build available, hopefully within tomorrow.

Thank you for your patience and your kind support.

after finding 2 other servers without a password it seems my efforts have been fruitless so far. getting into the booking then clicking join only makes the game crash which is annoying.

have been waiting a long time to give this a burl online and so far its been failing. has anyone else had similair issues?

EDIT : solution - remove non-ASCII characters from name

Hey Wally,

Tried a couple of times to get race on the XGN server, once I "Booked" but nobody else joined, the second time the Server was already in Practice Mode with only one person in it and of course I was unable to join.

I had an idea, and shoot me down if it sucks, but if the server is running 24/7, what say we have a standing schedule if anybody feels like a race we check out the server, say on the hour, or every 2 hours, that way we might be able to hook up?

Just a thought.

Cheers
rob

Maybe using your idea, on the hour, with TS as a lobby might work?

Booking system definately needs a review.
I missed the 'session' by 4 mins, then waited 45mins to join a server everyone had left. :(
And once you start the cycle, even leaving doesn't reset it. :-X

I know AC are doing a laser scanned version of Nordschleiffe, but until then, this is a very good track (since it's supposedly a v0.6):
http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/wip-nordschleife-by-snoopy.9846/ (http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/wip-nordschleife-by-snoopy.9846/)

It looks like the nKP version but the elevations are more dramatic, at least with my FOV (which is good  ;)).
