Following on from another thread, I'm seeking some feedback on what I'm thinking so I can get back into sim racing.
So my strategy is this:
Short Term - buy a new 32 inch 1440p monitor and minor upgrade of PC to play. Basically, fun on the cheap.
Long Term - buy cockpit plus 2 extra 32 inch 1440p monitors to run triples and do an overhaul of my PC - when a GPU is available that runs it and isn't rediculously priced.
My current build is:
Azrock Z77 Extreme 4 mobo
Fractal design define R4 case
Short Term I'm just looking at swapping in a GTX 1660 ti. Will this run AC and ACC at 1440p around 60 fps? And will I need to upgrade anything else? I don't need Max settings.
Monitor I'm considering is this:
Thanks for any input guys!
Phil.8 and I were chatting and we will both be at the GP in a few weeks time. We'll no doubt cross paths, but thought we'd put a shout out to anyone else in Melbourne who would be interested in catching up for a beer that weekend. Perhaps even a bit of head to head sim racing might be in order if we can find somewhere!
Let us know.
I might be up for my first upgrade depending on price:
From the same guys that bought us the amazing McLaren MP4-13. To be released some time Saturday.
The best physics modder in the business is involved with this one also.
The aim is to have an AC event getting everyone together in this corner of the earth.
I've canvassed interest across a few different leagues in Aus & NZ, namely ARSE, ROOZ, ASR, and ASRNZ. There seems to be some interest.
So I guess I should find out who would be keen from little old XGN?
The idea is thus:
* Select a date at the end of the upcoming season, trying to fit in between seasons for the other leagues as well.
* Each league pick a combo, and then each league runs a poll with each different combo to vote for. Combine all votes from every league to see which combo is selected. (I'm sure we aren't that up tight we will only pick and vote for combos we think we will win in).
* Run a pre-qualifying server with the selected combo for 1 week where everyone across all leagues must set a time (if they want to race). The idea is that everyone gets to be involved and no-one is left out.
* Times from qualifying server are used to create "divisions" based on pace. Number of divisions depends on number of people who want to race and what times people are setting.
* Each league runs a server for a particular division, all with the same car/track combo.
* Race night = qual + 2 races: 1 x sprint and 1 x long race with pit stops.
* Compare total race time across all divisions for results.
So what does everyone think, and who is interested? It's an opportunity for us to be a part of something wide-reaching and to get to know and race along-side our fellow AC drivers in the region, building a real sense of a sim-racing community among us all.
Hi guys. Hoping you can help. I posted this in the AC forums as well:
Ever since the last update (which has been a while) everything has looked incredibly bright on track. I have tried all the different PP effects but it makes no difference. I am running an AMD 7970 with the latest drivers and Windows 7. It's the default time of day in game which I think is 2:00pm?
It's a little weird in that if I sit there for a little bit the screen will gradually dim, but otherwise it seems to be always so bright it's almost unplayable around certain sections of tracks like Spa.
Here are a couple of links to screenshots using the default PP effects:
Hello friends, associates and sworn enemies.
Wondering if anyone would be up for a "real life" track day? Such as a Formula Ford or V8 Supercar run.
Not sure where - I guess the best venue + where most people that will attend are happy to go. I personally would love an excuse to fly up north or west.
Marty and I were discussing this on TS Tuesday night and thought it would be a good chance to meet everyone and to see how well real life simulates Assetto Corsa (I've heard the cars IRL are too understeery), have a bit of fun, etc. etc. Could do it over the course of a weekend - get there Saturday, meet and greet, do a few laps, possibly go out for dinner and a few drinks, then come back on the Sunday. Or whatever would work.
Just canvassing interest in this, so let me know what you think?
A really nice mod of the highest quality so far IMO.
The physics are very good, possibly a little planted, but otherwise excellent work. And normally I rip shreds off the physics side of these mods, so you know it's half decent!
This track is currently only in a 0.2 build and the maker has advised that he still needs to work on curbs, track-side objects, and a few other things, however I tried it and it seemed like a quality track already.
It has been scratch-made.
Kunos are going to make a version of this track, but until then (and I wouldn't expect it this year to be honest) this is a good alternative.

As of posting the latest version (0.2) download link is on page 6 of that ^ thread.
Has XGN ever looked at putting a league tag in the names of it's members?
eg: [ XGN ] Guybrush Threepwood.
It's good advertising for the league when on public servers and gives people a sense of belonging to a community.
Just a thought.
I'm sticking with tracks that we have had an organised race on here at XGN (not just the season races though).
First prize wins an all expenses paid trip to meet Marty in person, paid by Marty. He's lonely.
An easy one to start:
(Hmmm, how do I fit the entire image into the post so people don't have to scroll to see the whole pic?)
I had a sneaking suspicion that there was an imposed speed deficit when not using a H-shifter with the latest update. That is with cars that normally have a stick shift.
Marty uses a H-shifter and I use paddle shift. I noticed that he was pulling a large gap on the straights with the Lotus at Imola. The same thing was happening in the BMW E30 DTM's at Nurburgring National just now.
There was a good 20 meters difference from when we were both exiting the corner at the same speed to the end of the straight.
It would be good if someone could test this, I'll also ask in the forums.
As of today some track elements such as 3D grass, grid lines and tyre marks have a fly-screen effect. Is anyone else seeing this?
Here are pics of what I'm talking about:
I've been using this app as an on screen display in AC. It's fantastic.
It takes up very little real estate, is customizable and tells you everything you need to know including your delta from your PB, not just your session best.
It's actually a package of four apps, but I ony find I needed the "Stats Bar Plus" app and left the others.
