3 x 13 laps. Weather forecast is 17, 20 and 19 degrees, light winds.

This track has 24 pit boxes, so I'll be dropping Grat, Gratulin and JamieP.

Congratulations to Guybrush on pole and the 3 race wins, giving him the lead in the season standings. The fastest laps were all set by Bacchulum, and coming second in the round sees him move up into second place in the standings. Killagorilla jumped 4 places up in the standings this round, while Bird dropped down 3.

The race starts were very clean, with very few contacts at all.

Race 2
Russ ran into the back of me at Parabolica, knocking me into Seanus and off the track – 30 kg penalty.

Bird went too high on the banking and clipped the barrier, spinning him wildly and causing a big pile up – racing incident.

Season Standings
1. Guybrush Threepwood, 535
2. Bacchulum, 496
3. Phil.8, 486

Time to fly around the banked oval!

3 x 9 laps

Weather is hot - 27, 30 and 31 degrees.

This track only has 25 pit boxes, and we have 27 sign ups. So I'm going to drop off Gratulin and Grat off the grid for this round.

I'm trying to gauge interest in ACC here at XGN, just for some real broad future planning with no commitment one way or the other (I put the poll in this forum because I thought more people would see it here).

Some options:

By "full seasons", I envisage alternating AC and ACC seasons.

For "between AC seasons", I would like to run proper endurance races, say 2 hours, to make proper use of tyre management and strategy, and dealing with changeable conditions (and maybe driver swaps).

Congratulations to Guybrush on the clean sweep, winning every point on offer, taking Guybrush up to 2nd in the standings. Other big movers up the leaderboard are Bird (+5), and down, ab156 (-4).

There are some installation notes on RD:
To remove spectators from the track, extract the contents of NO PEOPLE.zip to the data folder
To reinstall spectators from the track, extract the contents of PEOPLE.zip to the data folder
The default installation of this track is configured for a "SHADER PATCH" set up. The textures for all camera_facing objects (spectators) are much darker to make them correctly exposed when using the current Patch. These files are also in the SOL+SHADER PATCH.zip archive.
If you use a standard AC set up please extract the contents of VANILLA TEXTURES.zip to the data folder (over-writing the originals). These textures are lighter and are designed to be correctly exposed with a standard AC set up.

It's a long circuit, 10km, so get some practice in!

Congratulations to Kcender on pole, and to Kcender, Guybrush and Joe for the individual race wins. Kcender won the overall round and maintains his championship lead. Guybrush has slipped down the standings after a 10th and a DNF after winning race 1. Other big movers up the leaderboard are ab156 (+4), and down, Killagorilla (-5). In the team standings, Krahl Racing extend their lead over Aleph Null to lead by 16 points.

Lap 1 Penalties

Race 1
Bird understeered into the outside barrier at turn 1 and bounced off of it and spun causing a pile up – racing incident.

AGK ran into the back of Bacchulum into turn 2 – 30 kg penalty.

Killagorilla clipped the grass and subsequently locked brakes into turn 2 and hit Joe – because it was a result of slipping on the grass – racing incident.

After being knocked off the track at turn 2, Bacchulum did what I tentatively call an unsafe re-entry from the grass and clipped Joe, spinning him. Bacchulum re-entered carefully, but the track was really busy with cars at that point and Bacchulum should have really let more of the field pass before re-joining – so 30 kg penalty.

Race 2
Guybrush had recovered from hitting the wall, and Killagorilla ran into the side of him at turn 2, moving a long way from left to right and not hugging the inside and giving Guybrush racing room, hitting Guybrush off the track – 30 kg penalty.

Race 3
Bacchulum clipped the barrier and Kcender collected him – racing incident.

Season Standings
1. Kcender87, 356
2. Phil.8, 301
3. Bacchulum, 300

Race 2
Freezer moved across the track from his side at turn 1, running in front of Bird who was braking for some distance and couldn't avoid hitting Freezer - 30 kg penalty for Freezer.
Later, Bird tagged the rear of Greggy - 30 kg penalty for Bird.

Season Standings

With a longer circuit, this round sees the format change to two 8 lap races. Points are adjusted accordingly so that the overall round is still worth the same number of points as a three race round.

Racing general / Improved my ping with a VPN
« on: May 14, 2019, 07:20:33 PM »
My AC ping on ADSL was in the 70's, and when I went to the NBN, it only dropped to the 60's, which I thought was a bit odd and crappy. I'm in Adelaide and the server is in Sydney. I was advised by Internode to try a VPN, which I did (PrivateInternetAccess connected to Sydney), and sure enough, my ping dropped to low 30's. Speedtest shows upload/download speeds aren't really impacted by the VPN either.

It's because I have less hops now between me and the server using the VPN (which doesn't say a lot for Internode's switching infrastructure - unless that's Telstra's problem?).

News / Motorsport fans: The TCR series is coming to Australia
« on: May 11, 2019, 10:34:19 AM »
A new motorsport touring car series is coming to Australia - TCR. Many current and ex Supercar drivers and teams are involved.

From https://www.tcraustralia.com:

The TCR regulations, formulated by former World Touring Car Championship manager Marciello Lotti, were developed in 2014 as a cost-effective touring car racing alternative.
Eligible cars include all front-wheel drive C-Segment hatchbacks or sedans, powered by production–based turbocharged petrol or diesel engines with a capacity of up to 2-litres.
There are currently four internationally-sanctioned TCR Series competing around the world, plus 12 national or regional series utilising the TCR regulations as their main rule book.
Manufacturers with cars currently homologated to TCR Series rules around the world include Audi, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Peugeot, Renault, Subaru and Volkswagen, among others.
TCR Series rules stipulate that fully-fledged factory owned entires are prohibited, however, car manufacturers are encouraged to support its cars entered by professional or private teams.
The category has produced some of the most breath-taking, close and exciting motor racing, thanks to its level playing field amongst a wide-range of car manufacturers from around the globe.

The racing will be broadcast on SBS. SBS’s coverage of TCR will begin on Saturday, 18 May at 2pm, with one race to feature on the one hour show on Saturday, while Sunday’s broadcast will showcase two back-to-back races and run from 1pm – 3pm on 19 May.

Real Life Motorsport / Australian TCR racing series
« on: May 09, 2019, 10:46:51 PM »
This could be an interesting series, less boring than Supercars.

"There were 12 cars on track in total, the others being the two Wall Racing Honda Civics, Melbourne Performance Centre’s Audi RS3 and Golf, and the Giulietta Veloces run by Garry Rogers Motorsport and Ashley Seward Motorsport.
GRM’s two Renault Meganes are also still on their way to Australia and, like the second Astra, will arrive this week."

Congratulations to Kcender on the clean sweep - pole, fastest race laps and 3 wins - which sees him take a clear lead in the season standings.

Lap 1 Penalties

Race 1
Joe ran into the back of Guybrush, and while Guybrush wasn’t impacted too much, I caused a pile up of cars behind Joe, so that’s a 30kg penalty.
Tricky one: Seanus just passed Brad, but then braked when very close to Brad who did move a little towards Seanus. Wheels touched and Seanus went off, but I’ll judge that to be a racing incident because Brad probably didn’t have time to react when Seanus braked so soon after passing.Update: 30kg penalty for Brad.

Race 2
Bird ran into the back of AGK – 30kg penalty.

In the same place as Bird, Bueller ran into the back of Killa – 30kg penalty.

Brad ran into the rear wheel of Bird under brakes. Although Bird was starting to turn in, Brad wasn’t far up enough – 30 kg penalty.

Race 3
Simone ran into the back of Brad – 30kg penalty.

Season Standings
1. Kcender87, 129
2. Bacchulum & Guybrush Threepwood, 112
3. Phil.8, 110

In the team standings, Aleph Null Pty Ltd (Bacchulum and Seanus) lead both Krahl Racing (Phil & Joe) and Maki Engineering (Mael & Freezer) who are tied, 198 pts to 178 pts.

3 x 9 laps.
