I'm going to try a 3 tier restrictor system in the upcoming season. After every round, drivers will be divided into 3 tiers by their fastest lap times. Drivers in the top tier will have more restrictor, the middle tier less, and the bottom tier 0. The goal is to compress the field a bit and give closer racing.

As an example, the top tier might have 50% restrictor, the middle tier 25% and the bottom tier 0 (I have to determine the real numbers after more testing). Everyone starts with 25% restrictor. As you go up or down the tiers, your restrictor can go up or down by 25%, but you won't get more than 50%.

For example, after round 1, the top tier will all be on 50%, the middle tier all on 25%, and the bottom tier all on 0.
Then, after round 2, lets say someone who had 0 restrictor ends up in the top tier - their restrictor will go up by 25 to be 25%.
If you had 50% restrictor but still finished in the top tier, your restrictor will stay at 50%.
If you had 50% restrictor and ended up in a lower tier, your restrictor will go down by 25. And so on.

Some 11 lap sprints to try the Ford Escort at Putnam Park GP: https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/putnam-park.17661/

Cars will be either the Ford Escort or the GPL '67 F1 mod, depending on the poll outcome.

3 x sprints, season starting May 7.

More details to come!

Sign up here (or let me know if you're on the list and can't race). We're not using the car dealer this season.

Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Season 28 cars poll
« on: April 17, 2019, 07:34:37 PM »
As usual, you can vote for more than one option.

The season format will be 3 x sprints, progressive grid (set by last race finish).

To tighten up the field, I will divide drivers into 3 tiers by lap time after each round, with tier 1 - the top third - all getting the same amount of restrictor, tier 2 in the middle having less, and tier 3 having no restrictor. I will expand on this later.

We'll have a practice race in each car over the next couple of weeks.

Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Season 28 discussion
« on: April 11, 2019, 10:01:22 AM »
With season 27 drawing to a close, it's time to start thinking about the next season. I'll throw a few ideas around for feedback, thumbs up or down, or alternative suggestions.

I like Seanus's suggestion a while back: you can nominate how much ballast you want to carry each round, with the incentive for carrying ballast being a points multiplier, and I'd also add that the race starting position is set not by qualifying but by how much ballast you carry, with the most ballast at the front. That way, you can choose to chase points in the season standings, or win races, or set yourself up for close racing.

As to the cars to use, I'm looking at our most successful recent past seasons, in terms of numbers of actual starters. They were, in decreasing order:
  • Ford Escort
  • LMP1/GT3 (I'd like to make it a single make/class series though - maybe just GT3?)
  • Maserati GT4
  • Porsche GT3 Cup
Maybe revisit one of those popular series?

Or we could try some FWD racing - Abarth 500 Assetto Corse?
Or this mod: https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/seat-leon-tcr-2018.20109/

This modder had input (feedback, telemetry) from a race driver of these cars, and the review comments rate it very highly in terms of FWD accuracy.

Congratulations to Phil for taking out the season 27 championship.

Congratulations to Freezer on Pole and to Bacchulum for all three race wins and the overall round win. Phil's 3 third place finishes see him take out the championship by 37 points from Joe.

Race 1
There was an impact between Freezer and Brad which I think was a racing incident. A Mustang passed Freezer’s Abarth to the left; Freezer moved a little right to give the Mustang room but in doing so closed up the gap that Brad in his Nissan was making for at great speed.

Race 2
Russ ran into the back of Jamie who was braking with a Mustang in front of him – 10 second penalty.

Race 3
Freezer ran into the back of Rob – 10 second penalty.

Season Standings
1. Phil.8, 388
2. Joe, 351
3. Wally, 333 (third on countback of race wins from Freezer, also on 333 pts)

The final round... with Phil seemingly safe, 19 points in the lead from Joe in the season standings, and at a track that should suit Phil's beloved Mustang nicely.

3 x 9 laps, and the weather is cold again - 8, 10 and 10 degrees.

With the end of daylight savings, qualifying will revert to start at 8:30 pm Eastern.

Congratulations to Phil on a dominant clean sweep: pole and all race wins and also the fastest lap in each race, which sees him take the championship lead from Joe with one round to go.

I had started turning into the fast left hander, Joe was coming up the inside and clipped my left rear and we both spun. Because Joe hit me from the rear after I was turning in, but also because I was turning in, I'm calling this a racing incident.

Season Standings
1. Phil.8, 328
2. Joe, 309
3. Wally, 293

We are racing at the International (No Chicane) layout.
3 x 11 laps.

Track: https://drive.google.com/open?id=14HfkoTSZaVhQmUM3HsPkQadLjBniJ4AM

It is very cold... the three races are 6, 8 and 8 degrees, which could pose a challenge, or make you consider your car and/or setup choices.

PS. All cars are affordable by some now. The earning rate is as I wanted, with the most expensive car reachable with a couple of rounds to go.

This is why I love the British Touring Car Championship. It's always got pack and side-by-side racing, with different makes of cars with different strengths.

ROME – March 27 th , 2019 – A new era is about to begin thanks to Assetto Corsa Competizione, the Official Videogame of the Blancpain GT Series, developed by KUNOS Simulazioni and published by 505 Games.

This April at Monza, in parallel with the first Round of 2019 Blancpain GT Series championship by SRO Motorsports Group, a new e-sport initiative will happen that provides the opportunity for 3 top sim racers to be accepted into Lamborghini Squadra Corse for a racing experience, where those lucky sim racers will be evaluated for driving, physical and mental skills and will live a racing experience with the team. All info will soon be available at www.sro-esport.com

Congratulations to Russ on pole and 2 of the race wins as well as the overall round win, and to Joe for the remaining win. After Joe's win and two seconds, and both Phil and I not doing so well this round, Joe takes the season lead by 4 points from Phil.

This round kept the race stewards busy!

Race 1
Turn 1 – Joe drifted a little wide and tagged the front right corner of Bird, sending him slightly to the left. Bird was slowly turning the corner, when ab156 re-entered the track from running a bit wide on the left to the side of Bird, and Bird just tagged the right rear corner of ab156, turning him around and causing a chain reaction. It was a fairly slow sequence of events and I can’t really put definitive blame on anyone, so I’m calling that a racing incident.

Race 2
The front row had 2 Abarths on it, and the second row had two Nissans on it. The Nissans both took off faster than the Abarths, and both decided to pass on the middle, colliding with each other. Killagorilla was a little further back then Bueller, and should have seen him occupying the gap first and backed off - $300 penalty.

RussG drove into the back of Killagorilla in T1 and spun him - $300 penalty.

Rob missed the apex and drove into the side of Killagorilla spinning him - $300 penalty.

Race 3
Ab156 ran into the rear left of Bird mid-corner and spun him - $300 penalty.

Phil hit the rear right of Bird in the final turn, spinning him - $300 penalty.

Season Standings
1. Joe, 143
2. Wally, 140
3. Phil.8, 137

The next round is at Modena (fast layout), a tighter, twistier track.Track: https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/autodromo-di-modena.5346 (note there has been a version 3.2 released; a lot of us probably still have version 3.1).

19 lap races.

The weather will be 11, 15 and 16 degrees.

Assetto Corsa Competizione / XGN Online Server

I've set up an XGN ACC server on the host I use to host the car dealer website, just for fun/experimentation. It's called "XGNACC www.xgn.com.au". You can find it in the server list by searching for "XGNACC".
It's only a t2.micro instance, so may be underpowered.

It's just on a 10 min Prac/Qual/Race cycle.
