Rolling Start App
« on: October 02, 2016, 09:31:58 AM »
This is the Rolling Start App called RRL_Lights, based on the app here and tweaked for our league.

How it works
  • The red AC start lights come on and go off, as normal. Jump starts are disabled (which means the gear is locked in N until the lights go out).
  • Then you take off and form a single-file procession. The app tells you which position to stay in. If you get out of position, it blinks the position at you.
  • It advises a 180 kph speed limit for the leader.
  • At 75% lap distance, red lights come on in the app, and it tells you to prepare for the start. At this stage, the leader is advised of a 100 kph speed limit.
  • As soon as the leader crosses the start line, the lights go green, and then disappear shortly thereafter.
Green lights rule: The leader can't go until he crosses the start line. When the lights go green, everyone can go (including overtaking before the start line). The normal turn 1 and 2 rule will apply of keeping your side of the track and no cutting across to the apex.

The app shows up for 5 seconds in non-race sessions (or when you're in pits too, I think), so you can position it on the screen. You'd put it somewhere where it's not going to obscure your view, like near the top of the screen.

To install, download and extract the folder into your steamapps\common\assettocorsa\apps\python folder.

Just to clarify, single file means no overlap but you don't have to be directly  ehind the car in front?  Just thinking it might be a good idea for this on the formation lap to minimise the risk of accidental rear ending people when they are slowing?

Yes, you don't have to be directly behind the car in front. The gap that the app warns you about (close the gap, leave some room) is pretty generous, so there's no need to bunch up too much for safety's sake anyway. The app does close the gaps up a little when the race is about to start.

We will not be using the rolling start app , but we will be doing rolling starts for each race.

The leader has to do about 100 kmh approaching the final turn, and can go anytime between exiting the last turn and the start line, at his discretion, with an announcement on TS. There is no overtaking before the start line.
