Title: A couple of old boys at Geelong Sprints
Post by: Bruce on November 30, 2015, 11:38:32 AM
Well with a blown head gasket last year, a little TLC between then and now, we headed off to Geelong Sprints yesterday.
Thanks to my family assisting, one of my daughters, Jean, driving me down and back we had a great family day and 4 runs at the 1/4 mile sprints.
Last year's 15.4x was the challenge...

Times: Pretty happy with 12th looking at the compitetion :) https://goo.gl/photos/U8xyh46NVsB5dpH17

Sorry, a lot of waiting...

Good to see,  but I couldn't but think there should be a 13 on your helmet :-)

Nice one Bruce.

I've got to ask though, is it worth the hassle of these meetings to drive flat out for only a few seconds?  Wouldn't you rather do a track day somewhere like Calder / Phillip Island / Sandown?

Well done Bruce, you have obviously fixed your "induction restriction" problem.
It had never occurred to me that you could blow (suck) a headgasket.
To put your quarter mile time into perspective for the younger members of XGN, a 1971 Ford Falcon GTHO  phase III was dead slow at 15.4 seconds.

Not sure if the scrutineering would pass it, but I will ask and a #13 would be a nice touch :)

I understand, I have infrequently attended the drags, but this shopping cart likes to straight more than take on the twisty bits, so the fun is the preparation, and for me, doing a little bit better each time, without be stupid about mods and money, it is fun flying down that strip , around the bend and heading to 200 metre run off at 90mph :) (well not every day, and when I say "fun" i mean "scary fun" :) )
I am fortunate enough to have the FJ to do the track days, and next year after some work on the FJ we will be there.

compression blows into the water jacket on a weak spot of the head gasket
Funny I didn't care where I came as long as the old wagon ran well, then I look at our group and see 12th out of 21 with some distinguished  cars in the mix.
I let the auto do the shifting so not to make a mistake and with a 3.0:1 rear axle ratio it was very good.
