Title: Fun Run: 15-9-2016
Post by: Gratulin on September 10, 2016, 05:31:45 PM
Would it be a good idea to do a car trial night next Thursday? Next Season Theme is "BEST OF BRITISH" so any British car is eligible for testing.

Candidate cars:

1. BTCC Mod cars (BMW 125, Ford Focus, Honda Civic Type R, Toyota Avensis - all these cars suffer from terminal oversteer!! Is it just me or is the physics got a problem?))
2. Escort Escort RS1600 (Kunos car - most fun to be had!!)
3. Jaguar XJ13 (surprisingly good and slidey - Tyre Model V10. However there are FFB bugs - seems to go haywire under some circumstances if you use the FFB Controller App)

Suggested Track:

VIR track current version download (https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/flattops.bucket/AssettoCorsaTracks/VIR+1.0.rar) (S3 Bucket, hopefully faster download.)
VIR track download (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/virginia-international-raceway.11892/) from the source.

Zandvoort or
Paul Ricard WTCC

(By keeping to a Kunos track it will allow a better test of each car's physics)

We could try all cars on track for a first testing session, Then do a couple of races in each set of cars based on preferences.

The other two British cars under consideration were the Caterham and the Mini. We've raced the Caterham a fair bit so left it off the list. The Mini seems to have horrible physics - even worse than before. So it got left off unless someone can make the handling better?

All, ran some laps last night in the GT2s and VIR takes some time to learn if you haven't driven it before. I spent a lot of time down some slope until I learnt that there were brake marks before the blind right-hander.

Fantastic track but complex and challenging.

I still came off every couple of laps. There is that long right hander that suddenly tightens up, almost like a second turn, and I kept missing it and going over the grass where there is a sign.

Well that was loads of fun. Was pushing the car too hard at the start of practice which really slows it down. Found earlier gentle progressive braking and slowing enough that I didn't loose traction was the key. As fun as they are to drift, it's not quick. Even had to be careful with the throttle not to nail it too quickly. A little bit like the Cobra in that way, but nowhere near as delicate.

I think I got 5th, 4th and what would have been 2nd if the baby didn't wake on the final lap. He was alseep next to me and suddenly sat upright so I had to bail off and get him before he fell off the sofa  ;D

I wondered why you just speared off the track in front of me.

I also was braking quite slowly and gently by the end of the night. It's a fun car.

Haha great story Joe.
Thanks for the tips.
I had the starts nailed, excluding the drive through :(  ,  tried to hard with too little practice on anew track.  Would have liked another race... But a bit late.
