Title: Fun Run - Formula Ford/Toyota AE86
Post by: Wally on June 08, 2021, 10:14:41 PM
We'll try some candidates for the next season, based on either the Formula Ford championship of 2001, or the short-lived Australian 2.0 litre Touring Car Championship of 1987.

We'll have a couple of 12 lap races, one in each car.

Track: Tailem Bend (https://drive.google.com/file/d/16a3nLJt9Z5CRIEaUum2-nAUh6jRSdBJ3/view) (West)
Cars: Formula Ford (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1K_97RYWioNNMJ_qoAD6jJ0dT1ITVeX0-/view?usp=sharing) (courtesy of Seanus)
Toyota AE86 Tuned is an AC car.

The Formula Ford requires Content Shader Patch. If you don't have it, you need to edit steamapps\common\assettocorsa\content\cars\legion_van_diemen_treaded\data\car.ini, and change "VERSION=extended-1" to "VERSION=1".

Some noteworthy facts about the 2001 Formula Ford championship: The championship was won by Will Davison, and also featured Jamie Whincup, Mark Winterbottom and Michael Caruso. The Avon Rookie of the Year was Jamie Whincup.

The 1987 Australian 2.0 litre Touring Car Championship was won by Mark Skaife in a Nissan Gazelle.

Server wouldn't allow any gears to be selected. Took the liberty of restarting it and all seems fine now.

The FF Van Diemen requires CSP.

There is a workaround/fix but to be blunt that would take me more effort than having the few luddites update their own installs.

What is CSP?
Download Content Manager from here https://acstuff.ru/app/
Direct download link is https://acstuff.ru/app/latest.zip

It's an alternative AC launcher, which provides many benefits. It loads up much quicker, remembers your favourite/recent servers etc. It's easy to install. Just download it and unzip it into your steamapps assettocorsa folder and run it.

What is CSP?

It is magic that addresses defects and omissions while delivering substantial enhancements and new features to a piece of software originally released in 2014.

In case it is a genuine question:

Do you have Content Manager? Maybe you need it to even join the server. It's a worthwhile thing to have anyway, it's much better than vanilla AC.

May I suggest a Discord session for people who do not have CM/CSP, once they have downloaded it and installed, to get them up to speed quickly , with the basics. I am available to host a Discord  session any day or night except Thursday Night. Just nominate a time and day  ;).

I'd like people to give CM a go. I resisted for a long time, but once you use it, it's easy and the original AC launcher is cringeworthy. And the Content Shader Patch adds a lot of nice visual improvements and optimisations.

I'm on board with Wally, CM starts up much quicker, has many more options whilst CSP will give your game a significant graphics update!  Definitely worth it.

Pretty sure you can also put content manager in your ac folder and rename cm to the same name as ac launcher then delete the ac one, steam will then launch cm.
I've also made a batch file, placed the shortcut in the start menu folder, when clicked it opens all my apps in the batch eg; Wally's rhm, simhub (also set to open a dash on the second screen), crew chief, race sim tool (motec type app), You can add things like discord or whatever.

If you don't want to use CM/CSP, you need to edit steamapps\common\assettocorsa\content\cars\legion_van_diemen_treaded\data\car.ini, and change "VERSION=extended-1" to "VERSION=1".

If you ARE PHIL, you need to edit steamapps\common\assettocorsa\content\cars\legion_van_diemen_treaded\data\car.ini, and change "VERSION=extended-1" to "VERSION=1".

Think I'll make an effort to get back for next season just needed a little break

It'd be good to see you back.

Both of these cars are quite fun to hussle around this variant of the bend.

All in all, the Van Diemen is the most challenging to drive, but also the most rewarding once you get it right. I see the racing with this being tough but possible if we respect braking markers.

The AE86 is probably my pick for a series

Here's my Toyota setup, for what it's worth. I got rid of most of the oversteer. The biggest culprit seems to be the lack of camber on the rear tyres, so I really reduced the camber on the front to try to balance the grip out a bit.

Due to parent teacher interviews I’m unable to race tonight and then I’m heading off for a couple of weeks away so I look forward to joining the next series from round 3 onwards
