The TrackIR ended up being more nuisance than it was worth, with the view that you have to keep re-centring. It kept going out of alignment, and thus been a distraction. I use the hat clip (hot gun glued to the cap), only have horizontal movement, the room must be fairly dark with no bright lights in front of the sensor. I only have to centre the view before each session and have never had a problem during a race. I can say I am 100% happy with it .
