Got both DK2 and triples but would not get Rift CV1. DK2 is great but only to play with casually. It really is fantastic. However, VR will make massive strides in next couple a years and price will drop dramatically. So I would stick with triples until then.

Note that same size PC is probably needed for both so you aren't wasting your PC investment either way. If you go triples you really only factor in the cost of 2 extra screens. So you are talking an extra $1200 for CV1 or extra $400-600 for triples.

Besides dimensions, do I need same brand/model screens?

you will notice slight differences if you don't have the same...

I initially started with 2 and then got a 3rd that was same brand but slightly newer.

There was a difference... but really up to you.

It annoyed me enough to buy 3 the same.

I have a 980 and I need some compromise but not much, really. You can't max shadows, need a little bit of care for reflections, and need to choose something in the pp effects to be less than ultra, but otherwise you can max-out almost everything. I need to use vsync to stop tearing.

I think Marty has a Titan X and he repeats most of the time that he needs to keep smoke low, but otherwise he seems to be happy and no vsync.

Maybe a 980Ti could give you the extra bit, but I am not sure it's worth it.

I think Rolz recently updated everything in his rig, so he might give you the updated details.

EDIT: Rolz's signature from AC forum:

I use 2xGTX970's, graphics maxed.
I don't know if there's a single that can do it. :-\

Just for info, I'm running triples with a 780 alone. I can't max graphics, but have them pretty high, so everything still looks pretty enough. I'm usually over 60 fps (also running Vsync to eliminate tearing). Sometimes it might drop into the 50's at the start of a race.

Hey Wally, do you still use your TrackIR with your triples?

No. I tried it, but it's not really necessary any more. It just makes the view a bit less stable and harder to manage than without it.
