Nurburgring Race 2 contact report
« on: March 05, 2016, 03:59:11 PM »
Here's some of the contact information I have pulled out of the server logs for Nurburgring race 2. Note how high some of the reported speeds are! No wonder there's billiard ball collisions.

I hope to be able to "clump" these contacts together, because a lot of these are all the after affects of the one turn 1 incident.

Wally but thise collisions were mostly from the aborted start where we all wrecked each other on purpose and as high a speed as possible  :D. Not sure why its showing up in the report as the race was restarted after those contacts.

I had no contact with other cars all night and the only other collision I had was when Bird stopped at pit exit after his hotlap and I hit him as I was driving out of the pitlane. I also drove through his car which was the odd thing and pretty sure that was as I made my outlap for the eventual pole time so I couldnt have had any damage.

I'll have to check that. I thought this was all after the restart. even in the race results, it shows 6 contacts for you Marty on lap 1 (don't forget this is race 2). I'll take a look (maybe later).

Edit:
Hmmmm... I think I see what's happening. The server is actually receiving client contact events after the session is restarted (I think). These logs are chaos, I tell ya.

Seeing as this is the race 2 start with GB leading me 2nd and Matthew 3rd. The collision started with Grat and Jeremy a bit further back.

Its why I mentioned in one of the other threads that its odd the aborted start collisions were added into the race 2 results.

Edit oops that is race 1 start as I was leading, race 2 start was clean up front not sure who had contact early but I definatly had no contact in race 2 either. Race 2 I followed guy around lap 1 then my pedal started spiking and matthew got past me cleanly lap 2 or 3 and I pitted at the end of lap 3 due to the spiking pedal as I thought id give them a good bash during the stop and trried to get away from guys that may rear end me when my car wasnt accelerating on the straights. I then past a few guys all with no contact so if I had 6 contacts you may want to check the replay as I am certain I had none.

Yep, I don't think there's much I can do about that. The collisions are only reported in the log after the session restart happened, even though they happened earlier. Since restarts are rare, it's no biggie.

But there was no restart in race 2, was there? :-\
Were these detected as the cars were 'flying' to the grid?
It's very 'anomalous'. ???

Wasnt race 2 someones car across the grid pre start so we had the first start before wally restarted. This may be the reason GB drove straight across the road and into me then everyone else piled in.  ;)

With the race 1 collisions the first lap looks like the replay as some cars get stopped dead and others hit them so youd expect higher numbers. Im not saying thats how it should be but it is as seen in the video I think. The oddest one is Jeremy and Bird lap 8 at 230kmh and I wonder if there was a warp.

Overall most collisions are harder then I see in most of mine as reported by stracker. Most of my collisions tend to be with GB in practice races and at speeds like 1 to 10kmh with just light rubs rarely causing a spin. but damage at times seems excessive for the contact.

I seriously do not understand these reports. From there it looks like Jeremy and I hit each other on lap 1 (twice), 2 (twice), and 8 (twice). I do not remember all these contacts. And definitely the relative speeds were no 80! They make no sense. Sorry...

I always thought collisions showed the speed of contact for both clients. However some of these only show 1 contact so maybe that means the other client had no collision in the incident.

Yes, that was when AJ would have started in the middle of the track and not his start box, so I restarted the race.

That's just directly what's reported in the server log. The collisions usually seem to come in pairs, e.g. Bird hit Jeremy and Jeremy hit Bird, but not always.

The point of these contact logs is for someone to find incidents in the replay more than anything.

Here is an overhead of these collisions

Lap: 8 at 225,250
--------------------------
Jeremy [Struggle Street Racing Crew] hit Grat [DA Racing] at 78 kph.
Grat [DA Racing] hit Jeremy [Struggle Street Racing Crew] at 59 kph.

Lap: 8 at 275,250
--------------------------
Jeremy [Struggle Street Racing Crew] hit Bird [TKO Racing] at 239 kph.
Bird [TKO Racing] hit Jeremy [Struggle Street Racing Crew] at 218 kph.

Lap: 8 at 250,250
--------------------------
Bird [TKO Racing] hit Grat [DA Racing] at 81 kph.
Grat [DA Racing] hit Bird [TKO Racing] at 80 kph.

Speeds especially between Jeremy and Bird seem a fair way out but the contact is head on with a badly timed spin around re entry  and so netcode seems to have issues here the most with a car traveling opposite to the direction its expecting. Clearly the combined impact would not be anywhere near 200kmh there as Jeremy has only just started to move the opposite direction and Bird has also just got moving not long before the contact.
