Title: Taking the old Humpy to "Come and Try Day" at Rob Roy
Post by: Bruce on October 02, 2014, 12:56:19 PM
With all the 'gunna's for years, I have committed myself to take my car to the MG Car Club's  Come and Try Day (http://mgcc.com.au/robroy/index.shtml) at Rob Roy.

Need to fit the new extinguisher, repack the front wheel bearings and remove the child seat!  New radiator last week and tune, so hoping it will behave on the important day.
It's a non-timed event and you can have an experienced hill climber in the car.  I expect it will be 'when I hear a scream, hit the brakes' :)

I may be getting some media assistance on the day, so hope to have a video.

Thanks Glen73 for the posting, the pics and thanks for taking the time to come along and support me.

This is run #3 of 5 on the day.  Had the Don Williams on board, who raced an early through the 60s, for instruction run and to relive his Holden days.
Prior to our run, a Mustang had 'pushed his welcome' but laying endless rubber after being requested to 'attack the hill, not his tyres' and in at touch of irony, stalled it at the top, leaving us on the line for a long time and heating up under the bonnet and fouling plugs, grrrr!
I noticed I was a little too relaxed waiting, with my arm out the window... :)
Got a little worried, for no reason according to Don, after the causeway and heading up into the blind lefthander, you will hear an opps from me.
Runs #4 & #5 become progressively better with these runs having the courage to stay on the pedal until the line, gaining an extra 5MPH at the top on the last run.
Great day... must go and see when the next event is :)

I do like the second pic, on the line... the starter has a finger in his ear, always a good sign even though as running out of time, finishing 9:30 the night before forgot to fit the loud exhaust!  Nice shot Glen of the spinning wheels off the line and the tyre smoke as I "clean the tyres!" :)

Your welcome Bruce, it gives me an opportunity to take photos and video with out the worry of driving. I enjoy capturing the day as well as it is something you have forever then. Next time if you get to P.I. or Sandown I shall put in a high speed gps tracker as well so we can see lap times and sector times plus "g's" pulled. I wont be able to plug in my wifi OBDII anywhere on your humpy though unless there is something your not telling me about the old girl.

Ps, make that two mates that want to turn your humpy into a full historic race car.

Thanks Glen, the idea is brewing, its not far off it, just need to strip out a few bits like the seats and luxury items as the radio and the Mini heater...

Now to get ready for http://www.geelongrevival.com.au/the-event/sprint-trials/ in the Comet, entry has been accepted and maybe....
Broadford with the Alfa Club in December in the Humpy.  But I need permission for the latter :)

Nice work, looks fun in the dust, pleased it was only an 'off', but at least it looks as if most mistakes would result in a slide.
Must be good in the wet!

Nice find Glen, pity they filmed my crappiest attempt! I is good to have a look at all the other parts of the day that I was too occupied to see.

Cars always look super slow on video, even that little buggy with the gixer looked no where near as mad on video... and that thing was insane  :o
