Time changes - qually 10 mins earlier.
« on: January 27, 2016, 08:12:25 PM »
In order to make the night finish a little earlier, I'll make these changes:

Qualifying starts at 8:20pm (Eastern DST) - 10 mins earlier, and will now be 15 minutes long (5 mins shorter).
The practice session before race 2 will now be 10 mins (5 mins shorter).

This will make the night finish 20 minutes earlier.

Does that work for everybody (thinking about the qually start time, mainly).

End result:Qually start at 8:30pm, and runs for 15 mins (5 mins shorter). Qualifying is usually only a 2 lap stint on softs, anyway, before returning to pits, so there's time for a few cracks at it.
Race 1: 8:45pm (30 mins)
Practice 2: 9:15pm for 10 mins (5 mins shorter)
Race 2: 9:25pm (30 mins)
Finish: 9:55pm (10 mins earlier).

Sounds perfect to me Wally.  Finishing earlier means we can also have a bit of a chat afterwards instead of scurrying off to bed - at least for the eastern states anyway.

I had a thought.:
if we really wanted to save some time, we could start the first race in the league leaderboard order, the second race in race1 finishing order.

We really only have a few more weeks before DST ends and QLD comes back to the civilised society...

As a Qld'er I start dinner as soon as I get home so I'm all done and eaten by 6:30 - obviously this is tough for some ppl to do...

Qualifying is fun and I don't want to kill that :P

The only reason Id like to save time in qualy or whatever is to have a longer race, maybe the 2 race format isnt as good as a single longer race.  I dont think skipping qualifying for race 1 is a good option but it could still be shortened to 8 minutes or so as the early part of the session is wasted time anyhow. Track gets fastest on the last lap so the early part I just use as a practice Q run for the final run later.

After all that way you only need 1 qualy and there is no gap in between races. Those that so badly need their extra 5 minutes would save maybe 15-20 minutes if it was just a single race format. There would be no server downtime between races and by the time that race 2 would start in the current format youd just about be finished a 1hr race.

If race starts at 8:45 it would be done at 9:45 and GB can have his much needed beauty sleep, though damage is already done there and 5 minutes more here and there wont repair the damage already done to his head. :)

2 race format 30 min race starting at 8:45 done at 9:15 server down maybe 5-10 minutes then warmup session of another 10 minutes plus extra lap would start race 2 at around 9:40pm and finish at around 10:15. SO you could actually even fit in a longer 1hr 15 minute race in the same time frame if its a single race format.

Think it would be more appropriate to start in the reverse order of the league leaderbord. No reason to give GB and Marty even an ounce of advantage!
