Sorry I didn't make it last night, I was really looking forward to trying about these two cars as I've not raced either and both were so different in their characteristics. I think I've had too much screen time lately and looking at a screen was giving me headaches all day yesterday and making me sick, so took a rare early night instead....

I'm getting the 99% CPU error for this track like we had at Sochie so I hope this isn't going to be an issue tonight. It feels like I'm driving in slow motion from the turn in to the apex of turn 1 but the rest of the lap is fine....

As for the cars, they both have their own unique traits but I'm finding the M1 much harder (and rewarding) to drive. I drove the M1 before the Lotus and I found power down and turn in rather tricky, not a bad thing, but it certainly a car which needs a lot more laps to get my head around. I'm still struggling with how hard it is to turn into a corner with this car. Moving into the Lotus, it was like all of a sudden every fault with the BMW was repaired because the Lotus had plenty of go, stopped and turn in wonderfully. On my 2nd lap I was 2 seconds faster than my BMW PB....

It certainly going to be interesting racing tonight as I'm predicting that the Lotus will produce close racing but the results will contain not many surprises where as I'm expecting the BMW will be anyone's race to win.

Wow  :o I didn’t expect to have night like that. I really loved not having to worry about setting up the car and simply being able to focus on learning how to drive. These cars were so hard and my brain was absolutely fried by the end of the night but it was great. To say I enjoyed it would be an understatement, but I was shocked by the results....I’m not sure how others felt about these cars but I think they really suited me because you couldn’t drive them at 100% all of the time. I like the fact that you had to think a lot about how you put the power down and drive them carefully because they were so vicious. Part of me loved the fact that if you didn’t respect these cars, you’d end up tank slapping into a wall!

For me, the first two races were more about driving carefully, not making mistakes and managing the car rather than brutal outright speed. I actually like that sort of race management which you don’t get from modern cars which you drive flat out all the time, but I don’t think they’d be everyone’s cup of tea either. The final race were we had no damaged, no restrictions, really threw me. Like others, knowing the car was industruckable I just wound up the boot to 100% and started playing mash with the throttle which didn’t end well...

These things are brutal......and I love it  :o
It going to be a very hard night tonight but that’s not a bad thing, playing around with the turbo last night it was interesting to see how much speed is added with each increment of boost. Getting out of the two slow corners is going to be really interesting with such a massive hand grenadine under the right foot 8)

Such a shame Sochi didn't work out for us because I think for the first time this season, I actually had a fast set up. I ducked out for a quick drink at the end of practice and missed all the conversation about the track issues but one thing I did notice was that PLP didn't seem to be working with track.
As for Monza, I'm not going to be too critical because it was a last minute call, but man I hate racing at that track, mainly because that track always seems to be full of farmers plowing cars off the track. and most of it is because of that stupid turn 1 chicane....

Race 1, attempt 1,  I got the best start of my year jumping both Freezer and Joe off the line to lead into the chicane, until all hell broke lose and we had to restart. Attempt 2, I forgot to engage a gear and sat revving away in N. When I finally got away I was plowed at the chicane by a car sliding down the grass on the inside! Attempt 3, which we actually raced, was pretty good, until I made mistakes and spun.

Race 2, I had a great start, but didn't have enough speed to pass as I'd be in the grass and then got hung out wide at the 1st chicane before getting side by side with Wally on the approach to the next chicane where I had to yeild. The next lap or so went well until I got a good run off the Parabolica was dragged raced Wally down the front straight 3-wide (with someone else) down the straight until someone behind us didn't brake early enough for the chicane and plowed into us...by then I'd had enough of the farming and gave up for the night.

Bit of a shame to finish the season that way, but still looking forward to the next

A fixed setup season would be interesting...

These cars work on this track, well done Wally!
Race one I made a good start and ran clean.
Race two I made a good start but got some really weird lag/connection issues whilst battling with Phil mid race, plus I saw the dreaded 99% occupancy error message so I'm not sure what is happening there as I've not seen that for well over a year, with only 12 or so cars on track I would not have thought that would be too stressful for my pc!
Race three I made a good start and was battling to close on killa until I ran wide on the exit of the last corner and thought I'd power through and cop the cutting-track warning until the car made a huge hard right turn causing me to spin and wipe out my front wing, from there the last two laps were rather tough driving with the wheel left hand down at about 45 degrees to drive straight...All in all a very surprising night and I'm so glad I abandoned the high downforce thinking as I found over 2 seconds improvement by dropping the wings

how many laps this week?
12 laps.

thanks Wally, I couldn't seem to find where that was hidden, but now that you've edited the 1st post it's very much appreciated.  8)

Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Re: S32R6 - Imola

Race two incident!  As I got away I saw that Brad behind had jumped fast and was coming up my right and it was to late to do anything so I held my line.  As Brad started to go by I had
Killa to my left and the gap seemed to be getting smaller from my view.  I jinked left a bit then slightly right and Brad and I touched wheels.  From there the spinning cars
caused a lot of chaos behind as people attempted to avoid things.  Don't think Brad did anything wrong.  I moved slightly and a small touch cause a big mess.....

The replay tends to suggest that what I had thought happened at the time didn’t match reality. I know I got a great start but at the time I had thought I’d moved a little too much to the left as the road started to bend and caused everything. Just one of those things I guess, it’s a really hard call as three into one just doesn’t fit.

To be honest this really didn’t bother me as I was rather pissed off after race 1 where I finished 5th. Now normally a top 5 finish is something I would be celebrating but after a mega start I was sitting pretty in 3rd behind Wally and catching him around 4 tenths a lap until Phil who was a lap down in 12th decided to unlap himself on the run into turn 1. To be honest I didn’t see this coming and it was rather messy, compounded by his slow exit of the chicane saw me lose two seconds on Wally in this first sector alone. Normally this wasn’t much of a deal as I expected Phil to blast off into the distance as that’s what usually happens, but tonight was different. For the next couple of laps my frustration levels mounted as everywhere I was fast Phil was slow and vice versa. In the end, with so much dirty air and compromised corner speed I had several big understeer moments and cooked my front tyres trying to make a pass on the 12th place car, all the while losing time to 2nd place Wally. Several laps later Phil moved over, but the damage was done and I should have settled for 3rd, but with the red mist running on overboost in my efforts to try and bridge the gap back to Wally I managed to catch a curb and spin, resulting in a 5th place finish.....

Race 3 was another disappointment as I’m sure frustration and anger from the previous two races were getting to me. I made more mistakes and came home last. One thing I did noticed about Imola was how I made my speed was pretty much the opposite to everyone else. Last week at Snetterton I found a set up which game me great mid corner grip and off corner acceleration. At Imola I thought by tweaking what I had last night would have helped by running big downforce hoping for massive corner speed where as the field seemed to have a much lower down force and higher top speed. Lessons learnt for another night.

so what time from which timezone does the racing actually start?

238
That meant race 2 was going to be a back-row start. Which actually went pretty well until Bradc took a nibble out of my rear wing  ::)

I’m not sure what you’re talking Mael because when I was coming out of the corner your car propped in front of me and I had to take avasive action (hard left over the grass) to avoid you and there was no contact/damage in my car....it was really strange as it almost seems like there was some pc/network lag because from my POV i thought it was a very weird place to be seeing the car in front slamming on their brakes... :o

I was the "Hunted" in 2 of the races, and it felt like it. I was under quite a bit of pressure from Brad, Killa and AGK. I was heading for a 3rd in race 3, but that damn last corner bit me, costing me 3 places as Mael, Rob and Phil passed. Phil was kind enough to have an off a bit later and give one of the spots back  :)

I had a great race with you Wally, side-by-side through turn 1 was a real hold your breath moment. You were really tricky to pass as I had pace around the middle of the lap where you couldn’t pass and you must of had a slightly shorter gear set as you could pull enough of a gap on me down the straights to prevent a pass. Had it not been for an overzealous brake bias change and subsequent rear lock up at the final corner I t could have been a rather interesting finish..tons of fun none the less.

I also had some great battles with AGK and I’m really sorry for how race 3 ended up. After getting a great start I was close to a repeat podium until On lap 4 I think I touched the inside curb at turn 1 and ended up spinning wildly off the track and I’m no sure if I hit him or if he was off track trying to avoid my plane crash....with no front wing I was dead last so I decided to pit and try the mediums. Wow! I should have started all the races with these as they were sensational, I was over a second a lap faster than I’d been all night and I even managed to set my fastest lap on the last lap.....lessons learned for next week

What a bloody tough track, might fine when you get it right and horrible when you don’t....
