What's also interesting is that there was only one hit for me during that whole incident, when I've frontally met Jeremy.
There was nothing involving Grat & me.  If it has registered, that's again lag/netcode issue.

I'm also wondering how does the program attribute the crash to a side.  It seems to be doing a poor job of who hit whom in a lot of cases.

You need to look at all 3 of the lap 8 contacts, not sure if its seperated by time code or location with those numbers 225,250 275,250 and 250,250.

It shows the collision between Jeremy/Grat, Jeremy/Bird and Bird/Grat. It doesnt lay blane in any way just records the speed of contact as seen by each client. These should be quite similar but at times due to netcode and warps it may register 1 client at a very different speed to the other.

I reported this on the AC forums after watching the replay closely too: http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/collision-speeds-reported-by-server-are-very-wrong-maybe-giving-exaggerated-collisions.31029/

"I wonder if this is causing the exaggerated, billiard ball, inelastic collisions we often see, that look completely unrealistic. E.g. if a car hits another at 20 kph, and the server thinks the collision was at 172 kph, is it any wonder the car will go flying off after what looks like a minor collision?"

I looked at that incident too, in slomo. I think you did just graze Grat.

Here's an improved contact log, which bunches up the reports into separate incidents (i.e. chains of collisions all at the same time). the number at the front is the TCP packet number, so if a whole bunch of TCP collision packets come together in sequence, they're likely to all be at the same time, more or less.

I personally think the collisions aren't that bad.  There's nothing I've seen in replays that looks physics defying, despite what the log reports.  Maybe someone can point it out to me?

Thanks Wally - indeed there seems to be a tiny overlap there.
It's really interesting to see these; neither in the race or on my saved replays I could see any contact there.  And the same for the T1 accident, even though the server logs seem to register a 'hit' between me and Jeremy.

My lag is negligible, so I'm really wondering how these things come to be.

I'd like to try and see these situations better on my replay, how do you guys move the cameras to these ad-hoc positions and angles?
Edit; nevermind, found it.  After some careful looking, I can find these contacts.  Funny, I have not heard nor felt them during the race.
But it's also interesting that some of these contacts are pretty much happening outside of the cars.  Eg the original Jeremy/Grat incident.
I'll create a screenshot of the moment where it happens.

Here's the moment of contact:
