Oh im driving even more slower Evora :O ... hope no issue of game crashing and internet connection(which was good for today) for next race.

Bad luck Aiman, Im just lucky that I got held up by the 599's in the last race and so my lap times were not great that race. Had I not made a mistake and had a couple clearer laps catching back up I would have never got under a 1:50 in race 2 even though same setup I could have ran mid 1:47's at the end of the race.

I've managed to tame it, indeed. It's not really love yet ☺. Although a faster car will be much more advantageous at spa, even moreso at monza.

Kowabunga! Get to drive my loverly Blue #13 599! And Spa, one of the track that is always a joy to drive… hard practice for me after Thursday’s Cobra Cup in the Shelby Cobra 427 S/C at Watkins Glen for an exciting 24 lap one race season finale!  (oh sorry an unsolicited ad!  ;D)

I take it we are enforcing the Drive through penalty this round, Spa will mean you need to be a little careful during the race to avoid the cuts. I think thats a good thing as lots of time can be gained going outside track limits at most sections of the track. If the app forces you to take more caution through Eau Rogue, Blanchimont etc to make sure you stay inside the track limits thats a good thing.

No way of enforcing cut penalty and lap invalidation in qualy but maybe Wally may give a race points penalty for anyone that sets their fastest lap on a cut. Not sure if his log Parse identifies laps people cut on but if it does it should be quite possible to automate and see who isnt running the app while also seeing who made an illegal qualy lap.

All of the above. I just want to make a few little changes to the app first.

Tried the Evora GX in Spa , its not that bad , managed 2:18.9 in Spa with it... its weird this car doesnt have any ABS or TC so have to watchout with brakes.. even at low downforce this car seems to be stable.

I just had a few test laps in the 599 at Spa, with minor setup adjustments & softs I was good for a 2:15.4.
P.S. this car is awesome to drive.  It eats up curbs, you can abuse the throttle, and catch slides very nicely.
Here's the set in case anyone might need it :)

On the other hand, I've only been able to put a 2:18.4 in the P4/5 - it's also very nice to drive, but with reduced wings one needs to watch the curbs a bit.  I'm attaching this set as well, again, really minor changes  -just in case.  I think it could be improved, still, this car is by default very nice to drive.

Whose server is the current practice server for Spa? The Mercedes is not on the car list. Thanks

EDIT: There must be an error in the car allocation. Wally and Bird are in P4s and I'm in the Mercedes  :'( ??? :o ;D

I can't see myself on the car list! I assume because I didn't set enough hot laps to get a good sample? I'll hopefully have all my pc issues sorted for next race so should I just use the Mclaren again?

With the removal of the 599, I've updated the car allocations in the first post. As expected, the 599 has just been replaced by the BMW M3 GT2. No one else's car changed.

I think the 458 GT2 seems quicker at Spa for many then the M3.

RSR has best lap in 458 2:13.6 with the M3 2:14.9 there is a much quicker lap in the 458 too but pretty sure thats a dodgy one.

Yeah I agree , 458 GT2 is abit faster in Spa , for me its much easier to get 2:15s than in M3 GT2. Still , both are pretty close together. Would like to see bit more 458s in grid since it seems too much M3 GT2s are there.

I'm not tweaking the car selection track to track. People just have to make the most out of what car they get based on the car's average relative performances. If the car they get is slightly faster on any particular track one week, good luck for them.

Bad luck GT. You need to resign, I tell ya.

With Bird's low aero setup, I got down to 2:19.4 on mediums.

I think its time to end the weekly car selection complain (I mean positive feedback).  There are limitations to the game, so lets just get on with racing and talking about lap times and setups etc.

The reason I mentioned the 458 is quicker then m3 is because people in the 599 were in them as they needed a faster car.  ;)

I tried some laps late last nite, think I will be a bit off with race pace with heavy fuel even my qualy pace isnt great lol. The pit lane penalty app is working quite well as when I had an off and lifted to not gain any time it wouldnt count as a penalty. Maybe it could be a little tighter but the way it is unless you gain time on a cut it wont be counted if you lose the car and need to run wide but lift off a bit to avoid gaining an advantage.

The only one  cut I got in about 17 laps was when I checked to see it was working and did a cut on purpose. I may need a few people to get drive throughs in the race otherwise I will likely be at the back of the field, at least there wont be any 599's to make this even worse.

Got down to 17.78 on super softs in the p4/5, but you really need to treat the tyres on the outlap carefully, otherwise they'll be useless halfway through the fast lap.  I guess a no-wing setup would give it a bit more, but for that to work the setup needs to be changed dramatically, I think.  I'll give that a miss.
Title: Re: S4R3: Spa Race Chat
Post by: marty on November 29, 2014, 06:20:31 PM
Sounds like it could be close between a few of us then Bird, Im a little off that but may be able to get there with an aggressive lap. I got down to 2:18.3 in the Evora GTC, Edwood is not far off my pace 2:18.7, Guybrush at 2:18.2 Aiman 2:18.5 in the GX.

Here is my qualy setup which took a bit of work to get pace and stability out of it, tried quite a few approaches with aero but ended up needing to just go quite low gaining .4 down the 2 straight with 0-2 wings as compared to slightly higher setups. Maybe if I can keep it on the track with even lower aero it can get into the 17's.

Having a look through RSR Rob on meds in the M3 GT2 is at 2:19.2 so 2 compounds lower he will be in the 17's. Matt Schmittez time in the 458 gt2 is 2:18.238 but in the m3 GT2 he is at 2:20.072 which kind of confirms my thought that the 458 is quite a bit easier to get pace out of and this is on most tracks. Maybe Wally put too much weight on the laptimes we posted as for some reason I couldnt get pace out of that car when I did my test laps. It may have simply been a spiking clutch pedal (had this happen quite a bit lately) as in most tracks the 458 is a bit quicker then the m3.

Post by: marty on November 30, 2014, 12:31:36 AM
I think handicap between me and Rob is working real well, had a great 9 lap battle on the practice server. I did a 2:17.7 in qualy then in the race pretty much was on it just as much all the way just maintaining a slight lead over Rob. We were both going as hard as we could lapping in the mid to low 2:19's in the second half of the race once fuel burned a bit, Only ended 1 lap short as Rob ran out of fuel.

Thats the kind of racing that makes me keep coming back, it wouldnt matter if its for first or last place its just awesome fun to race hard against other fast clean drivers both pushing as hard as possible.

Wally is there any chance of making the prac server 24 laps so we can test a race distance with the fuel settings?

Actually, don't worry.  9 laps is half distance anyway so gives a good idea how long the tyres last given that most will stop around half way anyway.

For what it's worth, I've switched my THRS8 shifter to sequential for the P4/5, because that's what the real car has. It makes it a little more immersive and fun.

Don't know why they removed this function from the G27 shifter, as the G25 was able to be made sequential.  I guess it would cost more with springs, etc. that would need to be put into the H shifter.  I would have got a G25 instead of a G27 is it weren't for the lack of buttons on the wheel.

Yeah, they made some things better and some things worse with the G27. You couldn't have the best of everything, which was an odd evolution, but as you say, it must be to control price.

Couldn't agree more Marty. There was only 2 of us on the track but I can't remember having more fun. Exhilarating.

I managed a 2:19.4 with softs and low fuel after loosing about half a second or so on the chicane at the end, so I will hopefully be able to put down a decent lap in quali and still have decent race pace.

Let me know whenever you can't race, so I can give your spot to a reserve for that race.

Wally looks like I may miss the race tonight, I stupidly updated to win 8.1 and no matter what I try cant load the logitech drivers for my wheel. The wheel does its initial calibration when system is restarted, once the windows logo pops up it starts another and normally shuts down half way through.

Ive tried everything possible and every possible logitech driver but it doesn't look like I will get it going. The wheel comes up in control panel devices but I have no way of changing settings. Its using tiny amounts of lock combined pedals and no clutch, tried driving like that and its useless. So if I cant get the logitech drivers to actually do anything I wont be racing, the drivers aren't failing on install but it is done very quickly and doesn't actually install anything to any folder that I can tell.

I also cant get dashmeter to work as visual c++ 2010 fails to install and this wont work without it, maybe I should have installed all before doing the windows updates but I didnt expect them to break things. I think I will just go back to windows 7, 8.1 seems nice and much quicker but thats mostly because it doesn't actually do anything.  ;D

win 8.1 ftw!! So snappy compared to 7 and doesn't suffer from the bloat slowdown. Not sure what you're doing different but I just installed the latest Logitech drivers and off it went.

Pretty good night for me, happy with how things went apart from a few glitches and accidents, sorry Rob for the eu rogue tap, didn't expect the slow down there at all since you had so much acceleration and a nice lead on me.

Second race went OK, dropped a few spots as I pitted too late and filled up, ran 2 x softs and they  felt great, got PB after PB a few laps ina row so all things were good.

Cyas next week.

Race 1 was ok , had bit contact with Bacchulum, really sorry for it.. because of some accidents infront , Got 6th place.
EDIT : I checked replay and it was Bacchulum spun outside and hit me.. Thought i caused the contact.
Race 2 started from back as was having bit net issue and didnt want to disturb the race.. luckly while race no net problems..Battling with the backpack , though it was very disadvantageous as Evora GX is slow on straights so couldnt pass them easily but still great race.
Ed wood teleported suddenly and i contact with him and heavy damage on my car cant continue... So I decided to watch the race , it was great battle between 1st and 2nd , also 3rd 4th and 5th with guybrush overtaking at last corner!

I am give up battling for any position, all the practice is not worth the frustration when the kids, who I have asked a million times are still gonna keep using the net on me,  I have never had an issue with iracing or rf2 like I do with AC, shit they can even download and play games when I am playing iracing or rf2 and no issue, someone farts near the internet and AC is a hopeless joke. One can only hope that AC gets it net code sorted before project cars comes out or people will give up on AC,  I know I am ready to :(

yeah true , AC is having big issue if your ping suddenly went up and warps happen.. I do race RF2 and RF too and they dont have warps when your net screwed(something like 100 to 250ping) Even racing at 300ms ping in them is still fine. In AC even low Ping racers sometimes do have warping.

win 8.1 ftw!! So snappy compared to 7 and doesn't suffer from the bloat slowdown. Not sure what you're doing different but I just installed the latest Logitech drivers and off it went.

Seems it was one of the security updates after the install which broke visual studio 2010 and everything that needed it to install. I did another full clean reinstall and this time installed anything before installing any updates. I did find online the culprit faulty update but uninstalling that still didnt fix my install issues for unknown reasons. It may also have been something to do with UAC which I though I turned off but isnt really off if slider set to lowest level. This just meant I didnt get a popup or an install as it still needed a confirmation.

I have just left the annoying UAC crap as default which seems less problematic, also will be avoiding most updates unless I know they are fine. I just allowed them all to auto install and seems quite a few do brake some things so maybe best without them for a bit. It loads crazy fast and main reason I went win 8.1 is to get rid of that annoying out of resources popup with aero in win 7 that stuffed my first race this season.

Hope someone can upload their replay files from these 2 races as Id like to check out the racing. I missed the race on my favorite track but should be good to go for Monza my least favourite next round.

And I agree, that 8 is a half-baked cookie, best avoided.  The little experience I had with it...no thanks.  7 works perfectly for long years now.
