Thursday Nights fun racing / Re: S11 R2 - Mosport - 16/11/2017
« on: November 17, 2017, 10:32:49 AM »
I had another fun night of racing with some unexpected results thrown in for good measure. Congratulation to Joe on the R2 win and the other podium finishers. R1 I was happy to qual 5th and settled into some close racing with Bueller and Rob, and Wally, Joe and Bird leading the pack. It took a while to get past Rob and then I start chasing down the leading three. I got to third place, after Joe made a few mistakes and really had no chance of passing Wally and Bird. Bird finally caught Wally and I was close behind them. From some earlier practice during the week with Bacchulum, I knew battling for position on this track was fraught with danger ;D ;D and decided to just wait and see, sadly Bird and Wally had a minor collision and I was handed the win, that's two wins in two weeks (unheard of, in my simracing career 8) 8) 8))
R2 Starting from the back of the pack really is something else :o with the lap times so close you really do not have much of an advantage over anyone else, it is really hard work to make any progress through the pack and you are dependent on other drivers errors. I take my hat off to Mael ,Bacchulum and Phil for deliberately choosing to drive slower cars and starting from the back of the pack, especially Mael in the 911(the car I also would have chosen if it was a bit faster)
Sorry for the tap in race 2 Bacchulum, I did not realise you were redressing a contact with Mael :'( I had some fun giving Wally a few scares and finished 7th.
I am very impressed with this mod and how it is able to compress the abilities of all drivers, as shown by 1 second covering the top 8 qualifiers. Some cars are faster than others but not by much and everyone seems to end up on a pretty equal footing. I remember the GTR2 mod Power and Glory did the same with a very similiar car selection. Does anyone have any theories as to Why It Is So?

I disconnected from Discord just before R2, I am using a Logitech G933 wireless headset which has it's own Tx/Rx module (not Bluetooth) , with Teamspeak I was able to walk out of range of the Tx/Rx module and when I was back in range Teamspeak would automatically reconnect, it appears Discord is not able to. I least now I know and the sound quality with Discord is excellent.

Great fun, except very sorry for my rear-ending to Joe & Wally!  That gave the 1st race to Roo on a platter, it's all my fault.

This track is one of the better US tracks, I loved it.
Thanks Bird , I owe you one  ;)

Excuse my ignorance, but I take it we download Discord from their website and install, then go onto Wally's invite link ? Is this correct?  Dave O.
Correct, keep in mind there is no way to check mic or spkr volume levels.

I have noticed a lot of people still need to sign in to Discord, using Wally's perma XGN link :) It would be good to go live with Discord next Thursday.
I was hoping we could try it out tonight.
I think some of the Thursday racers rarely view the forums(Imperious is one) and I thought we could use Teamspeak tonight to tell everybody that we are going to Discord next week.

Hi res like 4K is another level to graphics that has to be seen to be appreciated... I could never go back, for example the dash in the Panterra looks like it has just been treated with a vinyl restorer it is shiny and the level of detail on the guages on some cars, is amazing, you can read the manufacturing part numbers.

triple,  I linked the wrong one first, was meant to be a g sync one,    I was thinking 3 x 27 inch at 1440 might make everything all skippy ? ,  even though it would probably be way nicer to view ?
Phil , you could test your FPS at the higher res by going into Nvidea Control Panel and setting DSR ( Dynamic Super Resolution) factor to x4 which will give the same RES as a 4K Monitor 3840 x 2160. Do a before and after test with AC benchmark. 3840x2160 =8,294,400  4K single screen total res.  2560x3=7680    7680x1440=11,059,200  triple screen res. This is a single monitor test but will give a good indication of your system abilities.
I am using a 55inch 4K UHD 200HZ TV as my monitor, that sits 75cm from my eyes, with Track IR5 that give me approx. another 90deg of vision. I am very impressed at the quality of the graphics it is virtually photo realistic and almost like looking through the windscreen of a real car.

Let's start using it on Thursdays straight away. Then Tuesday can migrate over over once we sort out any kinks.

I reckon it'd be a good idea to migrate to discord, TS has not been playing nice and having something else as backup isn't working too well - people don't install it.

So move over to discord officially & leave TS as backup is my vote.
+1

I am easy, I have a discord server ready to go if people want to become familiar with it and at least have it working in case TS goes down again, which it will at some point
https://discord.gg/y3JFBu

When you first start Discord you have to click the round circle which has the first letter of your name in it on the far left, then you can see  the channel available to join next to it

another good thing about discord is its a handy way to be able to stay in touch if the website ever goes down, sorta like a messenger app as well as a talky app :)
Thanks Phil, I think we should all have this ready as a backup plan.

Gamevox is closing down,

Valued Gamers,
It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the closing of GameVox December 1st, 2017. Using feedback from existing software, our team put forward tremendous effort to bring you a better group voice experience.
We attempted to adapt to an ever-changing voice market. However, due to lack of funding and free alternatives we are not able to continue development and service for GameVox users.

discord is easy, way more simple than TS to get working,  and what most gamers use these days so I presume low overheads
That is sad, what do you think Phil, should we change?
