Title: On Kart Physics
Post by: Seanus on September 19, 2022, 02:42:33 PM
  FRONT

  Caster  --  Available via CSP
Camber  --  Available in AC but not with Kart physics*
  Toe --  Available in AC
Ackerman --  Available by editing 'suspensions.ini' (simple)
KPI/SAI  --  Available by editing 'suspensions.ini (complicated) or by using CSP instead of Caster, can't have both.
  Track+Scrub  --  Available by editing 'suspensions.ini (complicated)
Tyre Pressure  --  Available in AC but requires further work to 'tyre.ini' to lessen the effect on grip.
Roll Stiffness/Chassis Flex  -- Not Available
Steering Ratio  --  Available by editing 'car.ini' (very complicated)
Ride Height  --  Available by editing 'suspensions.ini' (very complicated)[/l]

  REAR
Track  -- Available by editing 'suspensions.ini (simple or complicated)
Ride Height  --  Available by editing 'suspensions.ini' (very complicated)
Final Gear Ratio  -- Available in AC but doesn't seem to work for the AI
Seat Position/CoG  --  Available by editing 'suspensions.ini (simple or complicated)

*Most race cars tilt the wheel independent of the Kingpin to adjust Camber, but many cars and AC tilt the Kingpin to alter Camber and adjusts the Wishbones to suit. My Kart physics has Wishbones but they are only 4.2mm long so have no freedom to be adjusted.

8)  Looking at you Bacchulum, but if any one wants a test version or request to change some of those values please let me know

I was just wondering if track adjustments were possible.
Changing the front/rear track is the first go-to for dealing with under/oversteer in a kart.
If you have to edit the suspensions file, then it becomes a completely new car, so it's not feasible.
They feel pretty good now, I was just hoping for more 'garage tools' to play with. 8)

An update on the superkarts.
I just went out to Lakeside and had a chat with some of the drivers in the pits, and a close look at the karts.
One thing I didn't expect was that they now run a full floor with diffuser.
The 125cc get so much downforce from it they don't use a rear wing, to reduce drag, but they are still able to pull 3G through the corners before the tyres let go.
Some are still learning, one bloke recently changed his nose cone to one that was 20mm higher off the ground and gained 1 second per lap around Lakeside, QLD Raceway and Morgan Park.

I'm hoping to go to the next round and talk to some more drivers, this round was postponed a week so a lot of competitors were unable to race due to prior commitments.
I'm also going to try to get some data from the Jameison brothers, who sell an 85cc shifter kart.

(and I'll try to remember sun screen, I'm burnt AF after 1 hour in the sun :'( )
