Ding ding ding, we have a winner. Yes, a post-start start. You ignore the AC start lights and sit there on the line in gear. A few seconds later, the new start lights come on, in the top right corner of the screen (middle screen for triples), one red coming on at a time, as usual. It holds 5 reds for a few seconds, and when they go off, you can go. If you go before the reds go out, the lights will go yellow to signify that you've done a jump start, and you'll get a 20 second post-race time penalty. It's built into the PLP app.

In theory, you could hold certain drivers for longer as a handicap, but I haven't coded anything like that yet. But it could be added.
Everybody's lap time only starts counting up as soon as the AC lights go out, which must be at the same time for everyone, as they all start together. So the server must be sending a "lights out" message to each client at the same instant. That's when I start my own light timer going.

Yep, the reds go out after 1 to 3 seconds.

Hmmm... you're making me start to think about overlaying a kind of animated rain gif over the whole screen :)

There was something similar done for rFactor that was quite effective. Not being a coder I have no idea if it's do-able nor how difficult. Or maybe it was built into a specific track, can't quite remember now.
