I use pTracker.
If it says the car behind is 5s (or whatever) back, but there's a car on your 'box, then it's not for position. ;)

Ptracker is a great app and gives proper timing that ac still lacks, even when stracker isnt running you can see delta to all cars around plus the best lap for all in the session. I havent noticed any issues caused by stracker on my servers so maybe it could be run on race nites too. That way I wouldnt also need the leaderboard app to see laptimes in qualy. Seeing ptracker only shows laps completed by others while your on track.

In qualy as I was trying to sort my stutters out and kept coming in and out, I had no idea what laptimes others were at thanks to the terrible ingame mp timing. All I could see was my position but I saw no laptimes at all for others which doesnt make much difference really but its nice to know how far off your are.

I think Spa large ballast will have a much bigger effect then Zandvoort, Zandvoort being more of a drivers circuit you could squeeze laptime out of it even when a bit heavy. Spa is pure power so quite likely giving 100kg of ballast to others will be worth way more time there then at Zandvoort. If GB qualifies in the top 10 id be amazed. He will probably still be quicker then me though.  :D

Freezer that would be as Ballast is now off both qualy and race laps so you were a bit quicker then Wally in both qualy sessions.
Understood but from R2 I was .5 quicker in qualy and .5 slower in race yet still got more ballast (compared to Wally).  Shouldn't the two results balance each other out a bit.  I had no damage in r2 so they were true results.

Tough night, but with some good news.

I could never find a fast pace, so I went for consistency. As a result, my quali was...well, I started last. Race started with quite some mess in the first few corners, but I managed to be careful enough to avoid any contact. From then on, it was all about consistent laps and good exists, to keep Bafs---who was clearly faster---behind. All worked pretty well for 6 laps, while advancing a few positions thanks to the predictable crashes. At the end of the 6th lap I have found Christopher recovering from a spin and a bit of a misunderstanding ended up in the classic unfortunate contact (I move right, he moves right, crash). At this point my front wing was damaged. I could still keep Bafs behind, but now every corner was a bit of a struggle, and after another 2 laps I finally lost it a bit and he passed me. All in all: a solid 8 place starting 18th. Can't complain.

My slow pace in race 1 also meant I was rewarded with a sizeable loss in weight for race 2. I could not capitalize on it fully, as my setup was probably wrong for it and I am not good enough to change my braking points so fast. In any case, I managed a decent 12th position on the grid. I knew I could be quite faster with the race progressing, so I decided to start with max prudence and then see how it goes. I managed to avoid any contact for the first few corners and then settled behind Wally. Unfortunately Skaife behind me was a bit more on the charging mode and probably did not expect me to be as conservative as I was, and ended up against my gearbox. Bad luck. Managed---very slowly---to reach the pits for repairs to my rear wing and messed it up a bit. I ended up being lapped by half the field, but I was committed to try to stay alive as the race was long. I was behind Christopher for 2 or 3 laps, but I realized I was faster and it was probably better to try to un-lap from him. I was pretty sure he knew I was lapped, as I rejoined from the pits letting him pass in turn 2. But I realize in AC there is nothing confirming that the guy you passed is a lapped one, and so he could not really know (I made a suggestion about it in the forum, but I do not think anybody will follow on that). Anyway: I got a much better exit out of the last turn and thought I passed him easily by turn 1. As I thought he knew I was lapped, I did not brake very late and did not expect him to try to defend the position. But as I said: he probably did not know I was lapped and fought for dear life for the position and we ended up having a double-contact. At this point I was on the gravel, damaged, and lapped by more than half of the field. I would have probably been more of an obstacle for everybody than anything else. So I left, drunk a glass of water, and then join the server to just watch you guys racing. Good job to all: it was a decently entertaining race and full access to radio communications was a nice plus.

In any case: I should apologize for my reaction to the crash. I hope you understand I was a bit frustrated by then.
Apologies dude. What's got me bothered is I didn't hear a peep out you until we had made contact. If you had said something beforehand I would have been much more accommodating as I thought we were on for position. For some reason most of my apps disappeared after the last build. I will rectify it before next race so I'm a little more aware of the overall race.

Pretty disappointed in my night. I got damage by turn three in both races. One was my fault the other was someone else's. Carrying that through both races ruined my night. You don't see many real races here where there isn't some sort of melee going through the first few corners so it's probably to be expected. See you all next week.

I know, Christopher. I thought the same thing: I should have simply said over ts "Christopher, I am lapped, let me go." I just did not think of it early enough. I guess it's good we discuss these little things here so we all learn what kind of situations might lead to silly contacts that can be easily avoided by a simple message over ts.

As for the first few corners: I believe most of us do really their best. Professional racers often do not manage to avoid contacts at the start. We do not see it too much today I think because race directors became much more strict on punishments, tracks have much more tarmac around them (leaving some space to avoid contact without spinning back into the field), and regulations punish you harder when you break your car (think of F1 rules). But it used to happen much more, if you think about it. And if they still do these mistakes, we cannot really hope we never do.

See you next Tuesday.

Here's the ballast "log" from race 1 (qual and prac). The average lap time was 1:25.870.

The figures are (your best lap time, diff to the average): ballast change

Freezer and I were slower than average, so dropped ballast.

P1: Guybrush Threepwood (1:25.124, 0.746): 130 -> 156
P2: Skaife (1:24.961, 0.909): 40 -> 71
P3: StanDaam (1:25.504, 0.366): 89 -> 102
P4: Bacchulum (1:26.262, -0.392): 28 -> 15
P5: Wally (1:26.865, -0.995): 46 -> 12
P6: Marty (1:25.782, 0.088): 120 -> 123
P7: Bafs17 (1:26.140, -0.270): 0 -> 0
P8: Grat (1:26.997, -1.127): 108 -> 70
P9: Mael (1:25.134, 0.736): 0 -> 25
P10: christopheraser (1:25.679, 0.191): 60 -> 67
P11: G0RGAK (1:26.923, -1.053): 0 -> 0
P12: Freezer (1:26.471, -0.601): 63 -> 43
P13: Matthew111 (1:24.926, 0.944): 86 -> 119
P14: EdWood (1:26.070, -0.200): 121 -> 114
P15: Jeremy (1:25.095, 0.775): 100 -> 127
P16: Phil.8 (1:25.887, -0.017): 100 -> 99
P17: Will (1:25.902, -0.032): 104 -> 103
P18: Simone (1:25.936, -0.066): 38 -> 36
P19: Joe (0:00.000, 85.870): 32 -> 32
P20: Rolz (0:00.000, 85.870): 57 -> 57
P21: Grubbet (0:00.000, 85.870): 7 -> 7
P22: Chap111 (0:00.000, 85.870): 0 -> 0
P23: Schmittez (0:00.000, 85.870): 0 -> 0

Race 2 (average was 1:26.903) below. I was about on the average, so my ballast didn't change much. Freezer was 0.526 sec faster than the average (going on qually time), so got more ballast. I don't know why you could do 1:26.377 in qually, but then only 1:28.007 in race. Most other people's qually and race times were closer. Perhaps you grained/blistered your tyres with a spin or a drift, or a flatspot - that can have quite an impact on lap times.

P1: Guybrush Threepwood (1:26.186, 0.717): 156 -> 178
P2: Bacchulum (1:26.501, 0.402): 15 -> 27
P3: Bafs17 (1:26.629, 0.274): 0 -> 8
P4: Phil.8 (1:26.520, 0.383): 99 -> 110
P5: Matthew111 (1:26.608, 0.295): 119 -> 128
P6: Wally (1:26.859, 0.044): 12 -> 13
P7: StanDaam (1:27.093, -0.190): 102 -> 96
P8: Marty (1:26.522, 0.381): 123 -> 134
P9: Freezer (1:26.377, 0.526): 43 -> 59
P10: Skaife (1:26.970, -0.067): 71 -> 69
P11: christopheraser (1:26.374, 0.529): 67 -> 83
P12: Jeremy (1:27.174, -0.271): 127 -> 119
P13: G0RGAK (1:27.697, -0.794): 0 -> 0
P14: Simone (1:26.211, 0.692): 36 -> 57
P15: Will (1:28.305, -1.402): 103 -> 62
P16: Mael (1:28.451, -1.548): 25 -> 0
P17: Grat (1:26.939, -0.036): 70 -> 69
P18: EdWood (1:26.846, 0.057): 114 -> 116
P19: Chap111 (0:00.000, 86.903): 0 -> 0

That shows ballast system working quite well with best laptime spread of just over 2 seconds in both races. Many seasons have had a spread of 6 or more seconds and also explains why its so hard to pass mid pack in these cars at Zandvoort. :)

OK, seeing it now.  I thought it was an average, and not your best time!!

With the best lap method it means that if someone really wants to play the system they would need to do poorly in qualy and poorly in race laptime wise. Quite often qualy will be your best laptime but if you do a poor qualy you may show you true pace in race, if your best lap is a fair way off the pace then you will get a benefit of less ballast to get you closer to the average laptime.

It will be interesting to see how ballast carries from track to track, I think Zandvoort a heavy car though clearly a bit of a handicap wont be as much as at Spa where the extra weight up the camel straight will easily cost a couple seconds or more just there and leave the heavier cars as big sitting ducks.  ;)

And passing is completely different too! I could keep Bafs behind me despite being almost 2 seconds slower for 8 laps at Zandvoort. I don't think that will be possible at Spa.

Weave. Noun. 2: a hairstyle created by weaving pieces of real or artificial hair into a person's existing hair, typically in order to increase its length or thickness.
