I will be in, but if its a password server do we really need to have a list of names? Still good to see number of people interested but you shouldnt need to add GUID's to the entry list.

Barbagallo can have 30 cars on the grid so probably best to just let whoever wants join on the night I think.

Perhaps the Lambo is a better option if we want to run 3 cars together?

Ed and I tested it a little did half a lap in the Alfa then found the jump, that was the last of the alpha laps but got it airborne a bit  ;D. We then drove some Exos, the one on the server is the s1. Alfa seems pretty odd default setup but I will post a setup later once Ive run some laps in it as I didnt even complete one proper lap in it.

The standard is probably easier to drive but the s1 has better tyres so less understeer and quicker laps in the 44's. Also noticed on the practice server tyre wear is off so the s1 was actually slower with the SS never getting to 100% grip should be able to do 43's with tyre wear on I think on a good lap.

I'd actually prefer the Lamborghini Miura to the Exos if it is up to it handling wise. That is a better match for the other cars style and era wise. I don't think we can sensibly run the Exos in the same race as the Cobra and Alfa even if we run separate classes.

Title: Re: Fun Run Dec 4th ('The Gratulin Cup') Format and Sign up...
Post by: marty on November 29, 2014, 10:06:55 AM
The Miura is a much better car then the Alpha in terms of physics. Also quite likely alpha will have no LOD's so a large field will grind even the best computers to a hault. Every other rip conversion I have dloaded has suffered from this LOD issue and this makes them not suitable for large fields. I havent properly tested that mod though but anyone can load an ai grid with them at the backbof the grid and see at what number of ai things go bad. Barbagallo I can run 30 AI in official cars or qualuty scratch made mods, poor rips it will start to grind at much lower numbers.

It is just a fun nite and test after all and if not the exos then maybe an older official f1 car. There are a few of them to choose.

Are we doing three races, one in each car?
Title: Re: Fun Run Dec 4th ('The Gratulin Cup') Format and Sign up...
Post by: rooshooter on November 29, 2014, 11:46:56 AM
I have done a few laps in the alfa and I like it, after a bit of playing with the setup, I would prefer
we stay away from the open wheelers as at 65 years of age my reflexes can no longer do justice to these cars and
these are meant to be FUN nights , my pick would be the F40 . I will try a grid full of Alfas on my pc and let you know the result.
I did a test with a grid of 22 cars and noticed a drop of approx 22fps between the alfa and the cobra but was still playable. I was at the back of the grid but I am only running 1920 x1080. My system is
an i5 with gtx660 not ocled.

Are we doing three races, one in each car?
My idea was to run all 3 cars in each of the 3 races. Each car would form it's own class. ie  just class winners. It would mean letting other car classes overtake just like in WEC. Don't know if this is workable but it is a fun run?
Title: Re: Fun Run Dec 4th ('The Gratulin Cup') Format and Sign up...
Post by: Wally on November 29, 2014, 12:50:24 PM
So each race you just randomly choose what car you want, provided you drive all three?
Title: Re: Fun Run Dec 4th ('The Gratulin Cup') Format and Sign up...
Post by: Gratulin on November 29, 2014, 01:04:44 PM
That was the idea - do you think it will work?
Title: Re: Fun Run Dec 4th ('The Gratulin Cup') Format and Sign up...
Post by: Wally on November 29, 2014, 01:43:33 PM
I suppose if the number of cars available are limited, so that everyone can't choose the same car in race 1, for example, it would work and be fun. We will need ferito LiveTracker for blue flags though.

heads up, the miura d/l is broken - I guess because it would point to v0.8.1
I've found the v0.8.2 googling, I can put it up on dropbox for convenience...
Actually, here are all the downloads
Track
barbagallo-release-v1.1.rar (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24242159/ac/barbagallo-release-v1.1.rar)

Cars

Lamborghini_Miura_P400SV_v0.8.2.rar (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24242159/ac/Lamborghini_Miura_P400SV_v0.8.2.rar)

Ps I've run a couple of laps in the miura....it's mental :)   1:09.87
also; the alfa is very weirdly packed, you need to go down one directory to get to the real car directory

Let me correct that statement.   The miura is slightly crazy, the Alfa is mental :)   1:06.81  but I cant slow it down properly yet.  The brake balance is utterly off, btw, you need it around 55%.

Could be fun in its organized chaos type of way seeing its only a very short lap there will be lots of passing and lapping. Not a very easy place to pass unless you really have a faster car that is but in this case the exos is a little silly quick amongst these.

If we know how many starters there will be then just divide the car allocations evenly to get an even mix of all cars so not everyone can pick the same car. Would be quite funny if everyone had an exos and Guybrush gets given an alfa.

I'd like to add one more note to the miura: it feels too heavy.  Especially compared to the alfa.

So: Marty, sorry, like rooshooter, at 61 my reflexes are 'challenged'  :D and I would like to try all 3 cars, what ever they are in the 3 races.
I have updated the initial post with Birds work , thanks.
I have also opened an invitation to AVM.org.au (http://www.avm.org.au/forum/index.php?topic=352.msg3008#msg3008) guys if they would like to try AC, lets hope some have time.

The Alfa's fun, but the Lambo is another one of those cars with a pile of bricks in the rear end that just goes wherever it feels like.
Title: Re: Fun Run Dec 4th ('The Gratulin Cup') Format and Sign up...

Once the rear of the Lambo starts going it just keeps on going...maybe due to big 12cyl in rear...

Title: Re: Fun Run Dec 4th ('The Gratulin Cup') Format and Sign up...

Hi Bruce , you must have missed a previous post of mine where I said I could not
join the practice server I come up as blacklisted. I also think the Lambo is just too rear end heavy
but the Alfa is great.1min 8sec laps are achievable..the Ferrari F40 is 1min 6 secs for me at least, have not
 yet tried the cobra.

I have just done some laps in the Cobra and for me 1 min 8 secs is standard.

I think the Alfa, Cobra and F40 would be a good mix.
Title: Re: Fun Run Dec 4th ('The Gratulin Cup') Format and Sign up...
Post by: Bird on November 30, 2014, 09:06:28 PM
There's a trick to the lambo.  It's possible to keep the rear on a light slide under moderate throttle, and that'll get you around corners very quickly.  But you must not lose your cool; if you give it a bit more than it wants to handle it'll kick the rear off immediately :)

Ran some laps in the Alfa, easily as bad as it gets in terms of physics. Not sure how many have driven it with a shifter but its pretty much impossible to downshift without locking the wheels, not sure if its the same driving it with paddles. Using the clutch on downshifts just means it wont go into gear at all but doesnt help with the locking wheels and no idea what sort of rpm you need to be in to avoid the wheels locking a I tried everything. The only thing that works is to downshift when going slow enough that you should be one gear lower, I didnt even dare trying to get into 2nd gear anywhere as getting into 3rd is hard enough. When I would want to go to second is the only time I can get into 3rd from 4th.

Anyway after tomorrow night I cant imagine me ever wanting to drive it again, this shows how poor the rip mods can be. For a fun night its good to drive some poor content for a test but a season in something like this no way for me.  ;D

That's the idea of the fun run - to see what the new mod cars are like. Pity the Alfa turns out to be an unauthorised rip.

I noticed the same thing with downshifts as well. I played with the diff and coast to tame it a bit. However, I'm not sure whether or not this was a "feature" of 60s sports cars? Some were pretty bad!

Post by: Wally on December 03, 2014, 10:21:47 PM
I was just using the sequential shifter for the Alfa, and I had no problems shifting at all. No assists. That should be equivalent to using paddles. Maybe that's the go for this car.

For me the handling of both the Alpha and the Lambo are way off and I get the gear locking in bothaas welluunless as Marty says you wait to slow down to that gear and then change down to it.  For me it doesn't seem to matter how high I rev match the wheels still lock a bit -  mainly going into 2nd.

I did get lockups with paddles and a healthy blip.  Hence my post earlier that I can't slow the car down properly.  I just couldn't articulate the problem well enough :)  You need to shift very-very late.   While it does not seem to make sense, I haven't driven the original car...

I found the Alpha almost impossible to downshift also.
I normally use paddle shifters for everything but the Alpha, Lambo and Cobra forces me to use a H shifter?
The Lambo was driveable but tip toeing around Barbagallo struggling with downshifts was a handfull.
How do the car allocations work, cause i not bags a Alpha!!

hehehe *evil laugh*
Okay we have found the the 2 newer cars a little 'interesting' to drive... but we will have a go at running them, it is a change and FUN.

Fantasy time ON:

I like to think that I'm offered a drive of someone's car and I have to get it back in good shape and drive it the way it came out of the shed.
Fantasy time OFF.

No all cars are nice... I remember the new owner of Peter Brock's winning Holden powered A30 said it would not drive it again as it was a uncontrollable death trap!

We will be running a min of 3 * 10 lap sprints, everyone must drive each car at least once. :)
Who knows maybe the Lambo will out do the nice handling Cobra???

The funny thing is you need to shift very late but in a straight line, if you shift while turning the car straightens like its locking front wheels or something but that doesnt make sense. It is quite predictable in the way it will do it every time but its the exact opposite thing that youd want while turning in. Locking rears and getting loose is bad enough but straightening mid corner forcing you to use more lock along with brakes that lock when you just think about using them adds to the "fun" quite a bit.  :D

Still its just a fun night and we can have "fun" driving cars that are crappy just trying to figure out how to deal with them. The lambo seems a little odd but its not terrible and can be driven, just the alfa maybe ok to drive to the shops just not so good around a track.

Great fun with these cars :D.. though I dont like the Alfa , seems too much of some rushed conversion and slicks are way too grippy for it imo and drives weird for me. Miura is actually good for me , Well you have to drive slow in that because it uses old street tyres while cobra and alfa use more modern street and slick tyre. Barbagallo is amazing , look foward to race this track again one day :)

I agree with Aiman. Good fun. I enjoyed the Muira the most.

Was fun I still dont like the Alfa much some weird stuff going on, the cobra is clearly the pick of the 3 but Lambo isnt too bad. It just needs a little bit of that official car magic the cobra got and it would be just as good.

Here are some screens from race 3.

Start of race 3.

Nice shots.

I still find the Cobra rolls too much, and unsettles me. Maybe I'm not gentle enough with it.

it maybe interesting to compare some telemetry.  I reckon I'm spending most of the time at 60% throttle.

Really? Maybe I'm being too optimistic with my right foot.

Enjoyed the change in cars, even if they were not 'correct', but lets hope that these or more like the Alfa and Lambo get picked up by AC and developed correctly.
I don't think they understand how big the untapped 'historic' side of sim racing.
Aiman, I think we will be using Barbagallo often, a great track for sprints.
Thanks to all who ran... see you next week at Road America...

Its funny how to go faster you need to use more brake and less throttle. ;D

I did see a mention of the P&G mod coming to AC so that should give more then enough historics. Also did see somewhere about a kunos historic DLC, Aris from Kunos was head physics guy in P&G which should keep those stuck in the olden days entertained well into the future. Pretty sure he will be keen to make a few old cars.

The last in inkling about HistorX is from August on Fatique Book (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.942072302486343.1073741826.151675104859404&type=1) :(
