Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Re: Pat Phillips Cup« on: April 18, 2019, 08:45:18 PM »Great work Phil. Hold the cup high and proud! I'm hanging out for a deal on a 1660 ti. Once I get one all I need to do is order a fanatec wheel and pedals and I won't be far away unless Mrs Threepwood intervenes. Pretty sure it'll take me a while to get up to speed. Will be fun to get back out on track though. 92
Assetto Corsa Competizione / Re: ACC News« on: April 17, 2019, 10:47:35 PM »A central bezel would be annoying, to understate it.Would be like a modern f1 lol But sound better. My debate at the moment is whether to get 3 x 32 inch or one 55 inch tv. The biggest problem with triples larger than 27" is you need a dedicated monitor stand as a lot of the cockpit monitor stands aren't designed for screens that size. 93

Maybe they just presumed it (UE) world support triples?

So what's the consensus: virtual reality vs triples?

Thanks Wally. I'll need every bit of practice I can get!
I've been trying to calculate how long it's been since I've properly turned a wheel, and I think it's been at least 3 years??? 97
Assetto Corsa / My New PC Build« on: April 04, 2019, 10:13:19 PM »
Hey all.
Following on from another thread, I'm seeking some feedback on what I'm thinking so I can get back into sim racing. So my strategy is this: Short Term - buy a new 32 inch 1440p monitor and minor upgrade of PC to play. Basically, fun on the cheap. Long Term - buy cockpit plus 2 extra 32 inch 1440p monitors to run triples and do an overhaul of my PC - when a GPU is available that runs it and isn't rediculously priced. My current build is: 7970 3gb i5 3570k 8gb ddr3 Azrock Z77 Extreme 4 mobo Fractal design define R4 case 850W PSU Short Term I'm just looking at swapping in a GTX 1660 ti. Will this run AC and ACC at 1440p around 60 fps? And will I need to upgrade anything else? I don't need Max settings. Monitor I'm considering is this: https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/lg-32-qhd-ips-monitor-with-freesync-32qk500-w-lg/ Thanks for any input guys! 98

God I wish my fiance didn't like her crappy shows that are only shown on Foxtel.
On another note though, if you call Foxtel and ask to disconnect because of Kayo and you don't record shows or use anything other than sports they'll drop your Sport + HD package to $39 per month for a year. 99

Hey Joe. Yes CSL, lol. My desk would get too sticky trying to drive with a bag of sugar Where did you guys get your CSL Elite stuff? Only place I can see is Pagani imports. What do you all think of this : I get a 32 inch curved 1440p now and then wait until GPUs become more reasonable, then get an extra two 32 inch monitors and run triples then. I remember trying 1080p on my old monitor after racing in 1440p and couldn't do it. Yes. Life is hard sometimes. I'm just not sure I can go back to 1080p even for triples and I don't want to provide the huge outlay only to be disappointed. 101

Thanks guys.
I've been holding out waiting for VR to catch up but it seems GPUs just can't handle VR with a decent resolution and FOV - such as the Pimax 5k. It also seems that games are behind in their optimisation for VR. So basically I'll need a 1080ti for triples @ 2k? Would it be feasible to have the outside screens 1080p and the centre 1440p? Also looking for a new wheel and pedals. Thinking the fanatec CSR elite...? 102

Does anyone have any ideas about what I should get in the way of triple screen 1440p monitors and gpu and CPU to match. I'm guessing my 6 year old () setup isn't going to cut it. Oh and also a cockpit? Thanks.

Trying to figure out what size monitor to look at for desktop sim racing. Is 55 too big? Is a big TV a decent alternative to triple monitors?

Why don't you have everyone start in the Reliant Robin and then allow people to use their $$$ to repaint the car?

Racing general / Re: My very first sim« on: January 21, 2019, 09:55:41 PM »My first setup change ever was to bend the little contacts underneath the Scalextric car up a bit to reduce friction against the track. My brother had a Scaletrix (sp?) slot car set. I remember setting up the burm on one corner so I could launch cars off it into the Christmas tree. But, my setup trick as a 5 year old was to spray CRC on the track on a corner so I could practice power sliding around it. Good times. |
