Title: Round 4/Barbagallo Mazda/Caterham Cup Update
Post by: Bruce on September 04, 2015, 02:01:46 PM

A couple of events have made us look at broadening our current season with the very nice Caterham, ballast and the thought of substituting the Alfa GTA to assist involvement of all those that would like to run on the Fun Thursday nights.

Next week we MAY:
Have a choice of Caterham or Alfa GTA, depending on:

The closeness of the 2 on the upcoming tracks, (not tested yet) and
ballast that will allow close racing for all in these 2 cars.  (At a min, we will be running the Caterham with ballast if Rob can get connected)

Your mission, <your_name_here>, should you choose to accept it, is:

Test both these cars, currently installed on the server with Barbagallo, and put some times up so we can then get an idea:
if they will be 'matchable'
and set some starting point ballast for car/peeps combos

... Good luck, <your_name_here>.

And your host for the night will be our own....... Phil.8

Bruce, I tried connecting this morning with the GTA and still the Checksum error.

I think that even though I'm not driving the Caterham my computer spits the dummy just trying to load them. I have tried everything I can think of within the game but as its only the Caterham I have problems with I am a bit reluctant to start changing Windows, C++ settings etc.

I think I will give the rest of the season a miss so that you guys can enjoy the Caterham. I will still be there for the Cobra rounds. So I still bet my "fun" fix.

Go and practice in the Evora ;)

Yeah Wally, I sure need the practice.

Checksum error only appears to occur when selecting the Alfa which is DLC so should be the right version, I was able
to join another server selecting the Alfa GTA with no checksum error, it does not make sense !!!!

Tried a couple of times yesterday and got the checksum error (but that was on a different track)
Then just tried 4 times to join with varying results.
T1. Caterham--all OK
T2. Alfa-- Checksum error
T3. Caterham--all OK
T4. Alfa-- all OK

so it appears to be a random error to me

The other night definitely seemed to be the Alfa causing it for me too.

I have now changed the alfa to plain colour group to see what is happening
For me 2 connects okay.

10 attempts to join selecting Alpha all fail , Caterham no failures. :-\

I wonder if it could have something to do with old skins sitting in the folder?

I give up I even deleted my skins folder still no luck. I think Gene Zeigler got it right back in 1995.

Here's an easy game to play.
Here's an easy thing to say:

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
And the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report!

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
And the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
And your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
Then your situation's hopeless, and your system's gonna crash!

    You can't say this?
    What a shame sir!
    We'll find you
    Another game sir.

If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
Says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
But your packets want to tunnel on another protocol,
That's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,

And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss
So your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
Then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'Cause as sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang!

When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk,
And the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risc,
Then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM.
Quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your mom!

No problems Bruce, I'd rather you guys have some fun.

Anyway I have a VERY modest version of the real thing that I can take out any time I want. ;)

The server could be left as is Bruce, all it means is I cannot select the Alpha to race with, I prefer
a mixed grid and the Alpha appears to be about 2 seconds per lap slower than the Caterham.

Let's leave it at one change this season and leave it with the Caterham
Please play,  you will find a race config.

A well deserved win, you were cool, calm and consistent.  From the start to finish.

Looks like there will be much closer racing now with advantage of ballast and it appears to be easy to assess and last night's weights seem to close to what is needed.

(For some reason sTracker put Wally in first place for "rooshooter's big race", I have added time to Wally, if the rest of the field is also out, please let Phil or myself know and it will be corrected).

I must admit the longer 'race' is better in my view, I finally got some pace in race 2, not enough to get near rooshooter, but was finally confy :)

Anyone have any ideas as to why I keep dropping out.
Just did 2 x 20 lap races off-line, using the same track and same mod and no problems, but 2 weeks in a row now keep losing connection.
Don't think its a connection issue cos race online in rFactor and dont get drop-outs.
Have been getting an error message as it drops out, but disappears too quickly to read, although last night think I read "runtime error and acs.exe" before it disappeared.
Have just changed from radeon to nvidea video cards so thought it may be that, but as above, didn't have a problem racing offline. It doesnt lock up the game, just boots me back to the lobby. If its OK with you Wally ,might try joining the Tuesday night server just to run practise and see if I get booted off there.

I used to drop out until I changed my Telstra speed profile from fast, to normal. maybe your isp has similar

Sure GW jump on on Tuesday. I'm curious if it's just the Caterham mod that gives you these dropouts. What happens if you just jump on any other populated server?

I have mine on a reliable profile, rather than fast.
Just did a 10 min qual session and a 10 lap race with 20 odd cars on a French server with no dropouts.
That was using the GT3 cars though
Wondering if its the missus playing on her tablet at nights thats causing it, but I think my pings are OK

GW that is frustrating, you did have a high ping last night before disappearing. :(
If it is of interest, the cobras are  up on a different track but on the same server instance.

Last night for a while your ping was steadily about 550 GW.

Well done Denis.  A great season of racing and some close fought battles.

I have just one question:  Who is Denis?

Thanks for the season Bruce and Phil 8  (this sounds like "fellate" by the way!).

Thankyou for the kind words Bruce but if you had beaten me to T1 it would have been your victory.
I have been racing online for about 7 years now and this is the first race I have won! Bruce and I have been racing each other for about
5 years and have always been close competitors so he knew what this win would mean to me. Thanks again Bruce.

I too get runtime errors when joining the server, which is why I missed the start of the third race last night. I think it is related to the
Caterham mod as it has not happened before.
