News / XGN server will be shut down
« on: May 06, 2024, 02:24:51 PM »
Hey guys,
I'm currently hosting XGN - for a few years now - but sadly it needs to move from my company account.
The reason is: our security stance needs to be improved.

I've tried to contact a few of you looking for someone that would like to continue hosting it or organise hosting for it.
No takers.

In light of this as a last effort I'm asking here publicly if any member would like to pick this up?   If yes, send me a PM.

If I get no response, sadly I'll be forced to shut the server down as I've no time organising a new hosting.

If anyone wants to pick the slack up, I can package the code & DB up for you.

The domain name is another matter, though, I think it's in Brit's hands at the moment, that's the last I've known of it.

Wohoo, that is fucking awesome.

And he put it up as an open source code.

News / Humble sale

Humble racing sale
I know most of us are well packed on the sim front, but there's an interesting additional opportunity here; hardware!

Namely; coupons for thurstmaster wheels.

I might even bite ;)   My old wheel has given up a while ago - I'm just wondering which of those wheels is a good one for some casual fun?

Heh, I just bought one for my daughter last year, a HSP Mongoose, this one.

It is quite affordable and crazy fast, not to mention you can roam a football field (or rather: two) with the range on the remote.    Does wheelies and doughnuts quite well. ;)

It's hardly a toy, more like a small weapon. :D

And every part can be replaced, or even upgraded.

Hardware & Reviews / Re: 85" 7752 x 1440 48:9 Hyperwide Monitor

So where is the link to the monitor?  I want to salivate :)

p.s. little personal rant:
These aspect ratios are doing my head in.  What bonehead thinks hey, let's not do 45:9  (aka 5:1) ratio, put 48 on it, so you can't easily express it.   Fuckers.

Assetto Corsa / Re: My New PC Build

Well I had done the gpu upgrade several months ago (3070) so maybe the old mb/cpu wasn't allowing the gpu to perform as it should.
Ah mate that's guaranteed.  The 3070 is one mighty beast.

But could it also be part of the equation that the physics need to be calculated for every frame?  I.e. without that, there's no next frame, regardless how powerful your gfx card might be....

Are you sure, Bacchulum?

I reckon ARBs are to prevent roll.   A flat, rigid car is less prone to roll (stability) and easier to change direction with - but I've always found the softer end to have more grip.

The weight transfer is a trickier thing; it'll depend on other things as well, probably.  But what's 100% certain is that the rigid setup transfers forces ("weight") quicker to the outside; there's less delay coming from the softness of the suspension.

This is probably where the funny comes in; in a completely rigid setup (imagine a block of stone) the transfer is immediate.  But we often think weight=mass, however these things are talking about forces, not mass.  And springs are a sinkhole for forces; they are an energy storage device to some extent.  (compress it; you have stored energy you can get back by releasing the pressure).

But on the other hand, excessive body roll will probably move the center of gravity - and that can have all sorts effects, depending how/where it moves.

Very nice driving, mate.  It's so much harder to get consistent fast laps out IRL!  But a lot more fun.
