Server is up. I will work out how many laps the race will be once I have done some laps :)

Well I managed 8 consecutive laps without incident so far. Now just have to figure out how to double that and go heaps faster... :o

Car Selection: Round 1 your choice.
Subsequent Races: As per a handicapping method, the better you do, the slower the car...

So is this still happening, or free choice?

I hate it when someone finds flaws in my ideas! :)
will think about this, it may take the fun out of it, ie: one car all season should give us "yin and yan" of each car...

nice work GW.

If gawaterman wants a slower car Bruce, give it to him, he needs some handicapping! But nobody else is allowed to swap cars.

Looking at the practise lap times at Longford it would be pretty hard to pick the slow cars from the fast cars, cos the times didn't vary much from car to car. The Sierra was quickest but that was a Sierra track.

Driver    Vehicle    Time    Gap
slideways            ford_sierra_cosworth_rs500_dtm      02:27.6540
-XGN-Phil.8    bmw_m3_e30_dtm                              02:27.8580       0.204
humper            ks_mercedes_190_evo2                      02:28.1920      0.538
-XGN-Phil.8    bmw_m3_e30_dtm                              02:28.2860      0.632
slideways            ford_sierra_cosworth_rs500_dtm      02:28.6020      0.948
-XGN-Phil.8    bmw_m3_e30_dtm                              02:28.8800      1.226
lenore9           ford_sierra_cosworth_rs500_dtm      02:28.9110      1.257

Also, are we going to make rolling starts the norm, if the Sierra's get on the front row every time we are going to get some chaotic starts. But then again that gives them a big advantage.

Sorry Bruce

Definitely hats off to the non sierra drivers, I couldn't get those times out of either of those other cars.

If you go to about 80% clutch with the throttle pinned for the first few seconds after the lights go out, you can launch the Sierra just as fast as the other cars. Just takes a bit of practice.

Would it be possible to run stracker on practice serve so we know if we are on the pace or not?

Post by: Bruce on March 05, 2016, 10:16:06 AM
No need to be sorry GW, all cool.
I think we stick with the cars we have run, newbies (ie Bird :) ) and others, can leverage off the first round experiences
Would have been happy to convert to rolling start, but now with some excellent instruction for non "Sierra Hot Initiation Start"s from driving coach AJ, lets leave it as a grid start, and we will take care!

looking forward to the next round...

Hi,

I think we have the BAD version of Interlagos on the server. The GOOD version is "INTERLAGOS BETA – 14-03-15" by Malagoli Garage.

Phil and Bruce, download from URL below to check it out.

May I suggest the strategy for this race is to find a laptime you can comfortably repeat 16 times without
spinning off the the track at some random point, while trying to shave a fraction of a second off . My best so far,
is 10 laps without a spin, although I went very close at one point. It is also possible to end up stuck on top of a guard rail and jump back to the pits.

I am happy to do a rolling start if you like.  You could bind the clutch to a button as a temporary measure ?

Its probably fairer for the sierra drivers to do rolling starts

I think Bird  has a backup TS and I have Gamevox if needed

sounds 100% better than TS

I've stopped the backup TS the last time the whole server crashed :)   It seemed it has used more memory than its fair share at some point (but not sure).
I think I can start it up if the regular TS does not get back.

Gamevox: now everyone would have to d/l a client, configure it, iron out problems...not sure if we want to do that, but up to you guys.

Great race, good fun.
The merc was a bit shitty on worn tyres, so I pitted instead of continuing, I was skidding everywhere.  Interestingly, the new tyres started deteriorating fairly quickly, too.   I've managed to put in my fastest lap - a 1:47 - after the pit, but in 5 or so laps I was back to the previous pace - altho it still wasn't the drifto-tyre mode it was after 15 laps :D

WD guys, good run!

Well, I screwed up big time tonight. The 1st start was all good, but then at the restart I wasn't paying proper attention and
forgot to click to enter the race. As a result I started from the pit lane.
I had a bit of fun swapping positions with Glenn a couple of times, I'm convinced I was quicker behind than in front though.
Changed tyres at 2/3 distance but was too far behind, also my in lap and out lap were woeful.

I will endeavour to pay more attention at the start next week

Good nights racing.  I got a decent start at the first attempt and grabbed a spot of two however on the second restart I was spun around at T1 and found myself facing backward and last.
From their I had a hard fought battle with a BMW (cant remember name) but unfortunately on two occassions he decided to move across on me when I got a run alongside.  The first hit we survived, the second occurrence saw him spin and I pushed on.
Pushed hard trying to make up time and pitted for tyres at lap 17.  After that had a battle with Bird, although he was a touch quicker and eventually got past.  I did have 10 sec penalty mainly from putting a wheel over the median strip on exiting T3 a couple of times but in the end I think I finished around 5th or so.

I had a spin early on in the race which saw me go through a barrier and back into pits. It refuelled me and changed tyres, but I was a lap down. I didn't want to pit again, so I trundled around on tyres on 95 wear for the last half of the race. I did have a bit of a run with Bird for a while, but after that it was pretty lonely. I couldn't catch bradc who was about 8 seconds up the road.

great to see the field growing on the Thursday night, and wow GW, did you shine on the night, great driving!
Pleased to see BradC was able to join in and being so new to AC put some good laps in, it's all the "little bits" of a sim that can make it easier, but ie the pitconfig app (http://xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=1302.0) we now use, will make all the difference.
and talking of the pitapp, I clicked the "no fill/med tyres" in the first change and the second clicked "no fill/softs" and put some good times in, made up for being 1 lap down! :)

Interlargos is a really good track, we used it often in rFactor, certainly good for the sprints or the longer races.
Thanks Phil for the managing a great night again...

Well the first laps on was on the main group after successfully getting through the first little incidents and found once again, I am faster following, and was on the bumper of Rob and having a ball, until I got too much of Rob's bumper, I know you say all okay, but I was annoyed I did it.  Enjoyed the night, was very stuffed but happy.... (and happy I didn't use the main straight run off, which I used heavily in practice nights :) )

I've humped the back of humper at least on 3 occasions.  :D   I really wanted to get around, but as I was trying to gather momentum through the corner I ended up nudging him.  At least no-one was the worse for it - the collision model held up all right.

I have a feeling that our billiard-ball tuesdays are more of a lag problem.

Well after completing my longest race ever I was glad to finish and sad it was over! I take my hat off to GW, I am driving
the same car, I do not know how you do it. ( what diff ratio and brake balance are you using?). I was glad the field was large
as I was never really lonely, I do not know how I held off slideways, in our practice sessions he was faster than me. It does not take
much of a difference in lap time, over 28 laps, to be down the back of the field.

Post by: slideways on March 11, 2016, 10:35:58 AM
Best laid plans and all that. I worked out that I couldn't do it without pitting going any quicker than mid to high 1:50's. At 1:48 pace I could only get about halfway in practice. My goal was to finish 8th from the back but the soft tyre option threw me so just concentrated on finishing without dramas. Apologies to whoever I had the big doorslammer with, didn't even know you were there. Think I lost about 20secs so came off worse I think.
Title: Re: Round 2? - Date: March 10th Interlargos
Post by: humper on March 11, 2016, 11:43:37 AM
All the chatter about tires had me worried. I was running around up front for a bit at the start but was quite happy to surrender so I could work on saving rubber. There was no way I was pitting! I've never used the pits in AC and have no software addons telling me anything.

So I just ran around quite lonely for most of the race trying not to slide the car anywhere. It started to get a little interesting toward the end as Marty's tires were dying and he get past then slip off the track, repeat and repeat. Then right in the final laps it started getting real interesting as Bruce was catching fast with Bird on the radio talking up the "fast times" Bruce was ticking off. I was desperately slip sliding around the track trying to stay ahead. Of coarse having no idea he was a lap down but it made for an exciting finish none the less.

Great track, really glad we switched to updated graphics version.
Not so sure about my strategy of nursing the car round, probably would have been better if I knew something about pitting and could have let merc rip.

In saying that it probably wouldn't have helped as GW's pace was awsome. WD all.

Humper, try pitting in one of the practice races - maybe a number of times, even. (you can reverse back to the box after leaving and stop again).  This is just to get to know what's there.

It's ok-ish, but slow to click it all together.

Next: if you want quick stops, download the pitconfig app (as above) - then you can set the required changes before (or while) driving and all you need is to nail the stop :)

Had a mixed night fighting concentration. My biggest contribution was causing the restart after hitting someone from behind and then mounting the guard rail ;)

I then was in the middle of the T1 bingle at the restart. Found it really difficult to keep up with car in front but not hit it through T1 in the restart. I then had a few offs towards the end. Head-butted fence once and then did a full 360 taking out Bird. Both times I lost concentration watching cars coming up behind and forgot to drive around the corners!!??

Happy with a 7th however. Couldn't have done any better I reckon given the BMW switching to softs. Was that legal?I'll get my lawyers onto it!!??

Well that was a huge surprise. After Bruce said to stick with the same car I was apprehensive. Only intended to use the Siera at Longford cos that track had long straights and few corners.
Then after 10 or so practice laps at Interlargos I was horrified, kept spinning 3 or 4 times every lap.
Then the more laps I did, seemed to gell with the car. Driving it at 8 tenths seems the best attack, plus it looks like somewhere in the coding the Sierra looks after its tyres much better, cos I didn't change tyres and was still doing 1.48s near the end
Looks like the car I didn't want, turns out to be the best one
Used a 2.92 final ratio and 67% brake balance rooshooter.

btw, what was the name of that tyre app everyone is using. I used to use OV1info but that hasn't worked for me after one of the AC upgrades?

I'm using Danny Giusa's tyre temp app (shows dirt & temp, and optimal temp, coloured) as well as Wally's tyre pressure engineer (although it makes no difference here)
Mind you, I don't think everyone uses the same apps :)
