The results don’t adequately display just how hard these cars are to drive fast lap after lap after lap! That run from turn 1 to the top of the hill and back down was a blast sliding and drifting all the way and feeling like each corner could be your last. I was 1 spot away in race 3 from the perfect night but there was never an opportunity as Wally drove a very solid race, he was able to get off the final corner so much better than I could meaning I could not make a move at the other end of the straight. I could place the car in race ending positions on corner entry but he never gave me a chance to actually put a move on. The door was slightly open on the 2nd last corner of the penultimate lap but any attempt to make a move would have ended in tears….well done on a tough race!

Interesting little race track this one…I can’t remember ever driving this before but I’m finding it’s very much a one line track. Passing could be very difficult

Wow, looking at the results I really didn’t expect the Austin to be so quick here compared to the Fairlane!

The kerbs here will probably kill me, cos I like to ride the kerbs, but they're half the height of the car. The big ol' Fairline might have a better time over the kerbs here.

It might be the angle you’re hitting them at and what you’re doing when you hit them. I had a quick run yesterday and I was driving it like a supercar, just much slower ;D For me the biggest issue was the curbs before the back straight but they were much easier when I turned in a lot earlier than I should and just rode over them. If I tired to down shift or brake hard I crashed 😉

That was a lot of fun last night, so many close race long battles….the variety of the strengths of the 4 cars really showed here and it will be very interesting to see which cars dominate as we visit different styles of track.. Well done to Bacchulum in the S.S.Fairlane for a faultless night of driving showing that it isn’t always the hare which wins the race! Wally and Joe’s pace was a bit much for me this round so it looks like I’ve got some homework to do.

Poor MGA feels a bit gutless for this track   :-[

You’ve just got to carry the momentum from one corner to the next and hang on!

Will this round be on the 10th Wally?

You’ll miss this week and I’ll miss the next on the 17th, so we’ve just got to make the best of rounds we can make

A mixed bag of racing for me. I copped some hits, gave some hits, still learning how these cars behave in a pack, I suppose. The highlight was some racing with Mael where we changed positions a few times. After I turned Brad around in race 3 and ended up half off the track, I wasn't really bogged, but it took an age to get the car restarted for some reason.

These are totally different beasts to those finely tuned go-karts we raced last season. Looking at how these handle and move, I think I got a lot of my ideas from watching the Sydney to Hobart yacht race on Boxing Day! Last night was as about as close to a ‘perfect’ night I think I’ve every had since racing some mates at a Hyperstimulator centre back when they were a ‘thing’ early last decade. The fact that these cars feel so slow and you are needing to commit very early makes them extremely tricky to drive quickly and I’m finding that there is a very fine line between hitting the apex and understeering off the track. What the results don’t show, is how hard it was to hit the apex’s and walk that type rope between speed and crashing.

Race 3 was extremely frustrating. Ultimately I ran out of laps to run down Mael, so credit to him for keeping it on the black stuff and not faulting. Apart from the 10+ seconds I lost at turn 1 it was also the two or three (I can’t remember) laps it took me to get past Joe which interrupted my charge to chase down Mael. Despite the difference in lap times, these cars were very close in speed and we all know Joe rarely make mistakes. Eventually I was able to do some side by side driving with him from the hairpin at the end of the back straight to the second to last corner and snuck past when he ran slightly every so slightly wide.

As more people get a handle on these cars the racing will be far less lopsided, plus with the variety of tracks on the calendar we are going to see different car’s strengths come to the fore as the season progresses. That’s said, after last weeks testing, I can’t wait to get to Lakeside because that is one hell of an epic roller coaster!

In the trail run, I ran the MG and was matching Brad's Austin for lap times, although I did have a few spins in the MG.

I know when we did the trail at Morgan Park a couple of weeks ago I was just as quick in the MG (compared to the Austin Healey) but it does require a different driving style to the Austin. I think the MG was the easiest car to drive quick, however you do need to be very careful in the braking zones to avoid spinning.

Where has everyone gone…?

It wasn’t that long ago that we’d have grids in the mid teens and now it’s low single digits

Wally, given the delayed start do you mind me swapping cars, the Austin whilst quick was not doing it for me!!

What are you thinking….I actually found it hard to make a decision with these cars because they are so different and make their speed in different ways. I loved the noise of the Fairlane, the turn in of the MG-A and the Cortina has so many childhood memories for me but eventually I went with the Austin because it’s snap, crackles and pops like crazy and despite it’s lack of power you can use the throttle to help it turn after the apex which suits my driving style.

Your work Freezer, inspired me to have a big night last night and create a custom paint job too!

Sorry but after a very long day, I’ve got a thumper of a headache and can’t play. Back next week

After hearing that little Austin snap, crackle and pop on throttle lift off, I’ve got to have it!

Man that was a really tough night to end what became a very difficult season !

Congratulations to Wally for such a solid night tonight. Your pace was just too much for me in qualifying and Joe just drove off into the distance in the 3rd race making me look like a snail. As frustrating as it sounds I just ended up do a bit of a consistency run and trying to limit the mistakes and bring it home, the pace people were getting towards the end there was epic and I have no idea how they were achieving those lap times.

Race 2 was a real pressure cooker with the top 4 all within a couple of seconds and it was very difficult to get into position, let alone pass. As usual, the end of the season produced some of the best racing and very mixed results. Congratulations to Scott for his 2nd place, your one lap pace was amazing and something I couldn’t get near most nights. I look forward to racing you again in the future. Thanks to Wally for organising the racing each week and thanks to seanus for his mod, whilst I really didn’t like the mid season tyre change it did make the cars a lot easier for people to drive. Cheers  :)
